Ok, maybe not a discussion, but still something worth asking. But talk, agree, disagree with what others say, but basically it's questions. Does anyone know if there is a possibility of more elements existing on other planets? Or have we discovered all the elemnts in existence? And also for extra, could there be elements that became 'extinct'?
Of course there is a possibility of other planets having elements we don't know of. If you think about we haven't known about all of the elements in current knowledge forever. A few hundred years ago most of them didn't "exist" to us. I find it highly unlikely that the Earth holds every single element that there is. The Universe is a massive place, and we are just one tiny tiny piece of it. I also think there is a very good possibility of elements that cease to exist. I see no reason to think otherwise, afterall circumstances and environments change, maybe there are some elements that can only exist in certain situations. Of course this is entirely speculation, but I don't see why not.
It's possible there are more elements. Periodic trends can suggest thing all by itself. We have man-made elements, and the actual table itself isn't complete yet too. Since we had to make more to fill in the gaps in earlier times. Also the possibility that some have chemically disappeared from our planet is likely likely. Considering we had 4.5 billion years of events that could have vaporized, removed, changed, etc all the elements we have. As a result it's likely there are some outside on other planets.
yeah, perhaps some elements are only existent in some planets because of their temperatures or some other things, who knows really.
Well, some elements have been synthesised in laboratories, which suggests that there are even more waiting to be discovered. And considering that the universe is infinite (or something close to it) it is entirely possible that there are an infinite number of new elements out there.
The thing is. I don't really think that synthasized elements count. The whole meaning of an element is something that con't be synzasized or made simpler. I do beleive that there are different elements on other planets and maybe these elements are why there is no life on them.
Unless intelligent life exists out there (which I bet there is), highly doubtful. All elements above No. 92 (Plutonium) are synthetic, meaning they are probably too unstable to exist for little more than a second outside a lab. The very last few elements are so unstable that I HIGHLY doubt they're in nature. So, possible. Yet, unless it's more synthetic elements, I doubt it.
I agree. There HAS to be more elements on other planets. For example, oxygen. We only know about oxygen on this planet. It's likely that other planet's have non-carbon based lifeforms that breath different atmospheres. These planets could have undiscovered elements, probably near5 the planet's core. Probably plasmas.
Of course. There are still quite a few more elements to be discovered before the atomic mas becomes too unstable for the atom's nucleus. Scientists are also synthetically creating new elements that don't exist in nature. I would also assume that there are more undiscovered elements out on other planets as you said.
well of course there is or discovery wouldnt exist infact black matter may just be a new element on its own if it exists that is
There is iron on Mars, i don't know about any other planet, and yes elements can become extinct, like fossil fuels, natural gas, crude oil, coal, thats why they are debating, if they should do offshore drilling, i don't really think that we have ever found other new elements on different planets, but mars does have iron, thats what gives it it's rust red color, i disagree with any body who said that we have discovered all elements in existence, because there is a lot of places that we have never even been before, like another galaxy, or even any planet farther than mars, it would take centuries just to get to Pluto, one of Neptune's moons, so i don't think that we have even brushed the surface of the finding all the elements.
Yes, I'm pretty sure out there that there are more elements than just that we have found on Earth or that has drifted here by asteroids etc. It's an interesting thing to ponder and perhaps someday we'll find other such things on other worlds. We do know many elements out there but I have no doubts that there are quite a few more and as others have said, we've even made some new ones so anything could be possible.
There are a few elements left. However, I was watching some program and learned the process in which they are created is extremely hard, because it leaves the elements unstable, and more likely to...(fall apart?) A natural balance must be obtained in order to form an element...even for the ones that have the property of not being stable (in terms of reacting with other elements)
