    i got this problem wrong.
the negative number threw me off. what do i do with the negative variables?

It really won't matter, since the final answer will be positive either way. There's two opposites, which makes a positive.

    -mn^2 x -7m^3n^4 = 7m^5n^6

I'm fairly certain that's the answer. I'm not exactly sure though, I haven't used exponents in forever. D:

it wont give me the same problem twice. but it keeps giving me stuff with negative variables and they are still messing me up. but class is almost over and i had to log out of my class program...
    oh well.

    the x means multiply...

    Double negative makes a positive.

    so i would get m^4n^6?
im not concerned with the number, just the variables...

When you multiply exponents you just add them to each other.

    y^3 * y^5 = y^8

Actually though, I 'm not sure but I think you're wrong in your result. It's mn^2*7m^3*n^4=7m^4*n^6

Oh ****, yeah you're right. That first m was hidden from me. I just looked at the n^2 both times I added the exponents. Good catch. xD
