It's certainly sad to see him go, but I bet whatever smaller projects he does will be amazing. He even mentioned (maybe) doing a few games by himself. Any ideas on what you'd like to see from him in that department?

This actually looks like a step up to me, I' d rather have him at the forefront of game development once again, even for smaller projects (as if Nes Mario and Zelda were big projects ...). I' m sure the young generation can survive without having Miyamoto constantly telling them what they should or shouldn' t do.

You misspelled his name in the thread tittle btw.

Indeed, sad to see him step down but at least he isn't retiring from game development altogether. I'm curious about what his smaller projects may be.

I felt like I needed to post that.

I think this is a good thing on most all fronts honestly. First of all, this could be an opportunity for the guy to work on some new titles, I'm sure you do get a tad bit bored after working on all those Mario's and Zelda's. Secondly, it really was about time he stepped out of the spotlight, as long as he was in the spotlight nobody else in Nintendo were able to enjoy some. Miya had been hogging that spotlight for more than 25 years, I'm glad he is stepping out.

    More power to you, Miya.

I'm mixed on this, while I think it's great that he's decided to change it up and start the smaller projects, I find it weird to imagine him not being the big hotshot behind it all.

But regardless, I noticed a lot of people elsewhere were misreading it and thinking he was retiring completely, which thankfully he is not.

Well it's a step down in that his "rank" will be lower. He was the director of the those bigger titles, right? In that case, he had more power over what happened at the cost of less hand in making it happen. Now it's reversed. He's making it happen, which is bound to be both more satisfying and better for us, the customers. However, he won't have quite as much power anymore.

And darn it, you're right. Hey mods, can you fix that when you get a chance?

I'm hoping he can pass his talent and ideals onto the young and impressionable employees. We need more people with minds similar to Miyamoto in the gaming industry.

I'm sure he's already very looked up to in the company. Getting to work with him is probably an honour in and of itself. It's very likely that the teams he works on will pick up on his best qualities immediately.

Oh my, he's stepping down from his position...
I seriously hope this doesn't change the course of the Legend of Zelda games.
Best of luck to Miyamoto with his smaller games - I can't wait to see what this genius thinks up!

You know...maybe it's a good thing if you think about it from a history standpoint...he started off small with the original Donkey Kong arcade game and now it's all huge with Super Mario Galaxy...maybe he just simply wants to go back to the older days and make things simple again...but I also wonder how this will effect Mario and Zelda in addition to the next games he will make.
