Your friends are correct, it is addicting. It's a good game to play if you just want to chill in front of the computer and not really do anything that requires a lot of effort. I was a bit reluctant to buy it at first but when I finally did buy it I didn't regret it one bit. It's a fun game and you can be really creative with what you build in your world as well.

It's also customizable, there are a heap of mods available and you can change the skin of your avatar (like in the screenshot I posted earlier) and even the textures of objects in the game.

not to mention that I believe it still to be in beta, but I bought it in Alpha when it was much cheaper, and It is a recommendable game, and it's worth not waiting so you can get that discount. All future upgrades free

My little brother plays this game. To be honest it doesn't seem like my type of game, but since reading everyone's post on this thread i might give it a shot!

I am rather fond of Minecraft. I had my own world which I had just run havoc upon, had a huge mine that would take 20 minutes to explore fully. However, after my harddrive died I haven't gotten around to getting the game again, I'm not sure I will. The most awesome aspect of Minecraft is to see all the crazy things people can come up with, others are much better than I at it, so yeah.

Minecraft is one of those games you have to try at least once.

Edit: I feel this is relevant http://notch.tumblr.com/post/7128013309/10m

Granted this is really for players... Has it seemed like people have been sabotaging any sort of gameplay on multiplayer servers? I actually just recently went onto a multiplayer server I play on (it's private too) and all my useful stuff was stolen and parts of my home were destroyed along with a portal to the nether. Not saying I'm looking for the person, but wondering if something like that was happening on other servers.

You mean griefing? Yes there's a lot of that on basically any server on Minecraft, unless it's heavily moderated. People just find it too much fun to go into others worlds and break stuff. It's rather tiring, but oh well, I suppose that's just how it will be with these types of things. Even private servers get griefers.

And that's why bukkit is great. Forget the normal minecraft_Server. :D

I looove Minecraft, since I started playing a couple of months ago. I used to just play single player, but now I tend to play mutliplayer with my buds.

    I also enjoy modding Minecraft. The mods are so awesome. ; ;

we;; the thing is, the guy who admins it said that no one was on when it happened. And I do believe that cause he is a trustworthy guy and the fact that there are like not even 15 of us on there. The chances would be slim.

Oh wow! :o You made the 'void' or the bottomless pit of death. I've tried doing that since I was curious but I was never able to ever since MC updated their stuff.

Anyways, I started playing it about the beginning of my school year which was last year. I found a pirated version and played it on my school computer. Then a couple of guys asked for the file I was using and then like half of the class had the file. The game itself in the beginning was fun as I fought monsters, created a mineshaft, created a portal to hell, etc. Then I added more fun stuff like adding more items into the game and make the unknown items 'natural' and appear. Example includes plasma. And here I am now. I've stopped playing since I got over the addiction and now I'm playing back on the PS3 or other online games.

I've had minecraft sine it was in Beta 1.2. Singleplayer is a lot of fun, though I grew tired of the same old routine. In time, I got some mods to mix things up. It worked for a bit. Then I got a new computer, capable of hosting a lag-free minecraft server. So basically I've only been on multiplayer since then with friends. 'Tis a lot of fun, and I can't wait for the 1.8 update 8D.

Ah, Minecraft - a game that has grabbed quite a large amount of the gaming community by its knees, it would appear. What I positively adore about Minecraft is not simply its mechanics or fun gameplay value, but the fact that Minecraft in itself is a rather interesting artistic medium - a manipulation of a digital world to create enormous structures, works of art, any such imaginative displays and continue this goal of creativity through sheer addiction of doing so, whilst still providing a fun challenge through the factor of monsters and whatnot. For such a reason alone, Minecraft should most certainly be commended as a pioneer of the advantageous potential of immersive video gaming.

Now all I require is enough money so I may purchase the game myself and be harassed by creepers continually.

Be happy. This thread actually persuaded me to buy it. The video in the first post intrigued me so much that I kept watching tem for a few hours. In the end I thought, if i'm going to actually enjoy this game I should stop watching and just get it!
I'm not disappointed so far. I wish I had a little reference from the game itself to the possible items and activities I can collect and do since I feel a little aimless at times. Can anyone recommend something like an items list or something to help me delve deeper into the game/

I love my little fort in the middle of the desert! I love digging secret tunnels everywhere! :D

When I saw my friend playing it I was confused as to why he was playing an old game since the graphics were terrible but then I found out that the bad graphics make the world plus it also helps to fit more into the game. I watched him build a house underwater and kill some zombies, I did get a bit lost as to what the point of the game was but apart from that I thought it looked interesting. I don't think I'll play it though, I can imagine the graphics would really annoy me since I'm so used to more realistic looking games.

The point is that there is absolutely no point to the game xD

You just wake up on a beach with no supplies and you have to survive and get supplies and stuff. After that the only goal is whatever you set yourself. The game is only as huge as your imagination is :3

Also, I really like the graphics, they don't look old ;-; They are so stylized and prettyful, I love them

The shadow detail is actually pretty high. Consider it more of a high-def 8-bit graphic style. Actually works very well.
There are texture packs that make everything Photo Realistic if you're into that. Not to mention loads of mods.

Really? Well I never knew that. So the point is that there is no point, a whole game of free roam? That does sound quite fun although I feel the need to have a proper objective in the game, but I bet you usually make your own so that isn't much of a problem.

Indeed, a wonderful factor of the game is that one may set their own general objectives and thus pace themselves accordingly - a true sandbox game, to the point where even the difficulty curve would thus be slightly manipulated by the interests and creativity of the player him or herself.

As for the texture packs, there are indeed a number of them that have been floating around the internet - realistic ones to even Animal Crossing-inspired packs, and I would presume quite a myriad of others.
