Yea, "guard" is right clicking with a sword, which puts it in a guardy-like position. I tried it out on a zombie. I'm not sure if it worked or not.

    Oh, wow.
I didn't know about that, it sounds pretty cool, thanks for the info, Janime!

Turns out ravines are also in the prerelease. I found one on the surface, which is normal, but I also found on that was generated underground. I wonder if Notch had that in mind.

Is a ravine a type of canyon? Also Skeletons now hold full size bows so the arrows don't shoot from over their heads any more. I also like that passive mobs will run away from you if attacked. A bit of realism even though it can get annoying.

Pretty much. It's a big hole that generates all...line-y.

A canyon. That's basically a canyon. Is it easier to find them around certain areas like mountains or what not? Also do you find stuff easier there like coal and iron, possibly diamond?

Not really, they generate randomly in the ground. Tell tale signs are usually lights coming out of the ground due to lava that may be flowing down there. I think they take up a large chunk of whatever chunk they occupy though. They seem large enough to span a whole chunk, but not much more than that.

As for resources, it is easier, but you still have to down and get it, which can be a pain. I haven't found diamond in one yet though, even in that underground ravine that I found which ends well beneath the layer where diamonds begin to generate.

Have you found any rivers? Whats the chance of finding them? I here there is also a swamp area now and possible volcanoes as well. Seen any?

I haven't found rivers yet, but I don't think they're in the prerelease.

Funny you should mention swamps, since I actually spawned in a swamp with some lava near the surface, causing trees to burn.

As for the volcano biome, I think Notch likes the idea, but has yet to implement them. He was, for a while, accepting biome ideas via Twitter, many of which he said that he loved, though he didn't specify which ones. I suggested a floodlands biome where water rises when it rains. He did say that he wouldn't have most of them in 1.8 though, and that they would be more likely to be added in 1.9 or a later version of 1.8.

Anyone else found it much easier to get Iron, Gold and Diamond? I mean, I got my first diamon in about an hour. And also, water and lava is more prevalent for my new world too.

It's a very nice update at the end of it though.

I found less iron and more coal, actually.

Also, I found a mineshaft. They are HUGE. Took me like an hour to thoroughly explore the area.

Yeah, the whole Mineshaft thing is ridiculous, so huge, but I love exploring them.

I found myself near a ravine when I spawned. Down one of them I found tunnels with iron all around. Those places seem great for resources.

I made myself a little ravine house, with a giant window intothe side of it. I love the look it has. This update has been great to me. Except sand. In the middle of a giant forest not much sand apart from in small pond areas. Damn I like glass.

The incredible seed "gimmeabreak" without the quotation marks has two villages, a somewhat small ravine, and a desert. The average spawn is near the main village, and it's quite useful with many rivers and huge caves.

Anyway, I've recently discovered a burning hatred for silverfish.

Heh. It's only recently become personal, what with the repeated murders and such.

So, the lack of snow biomes is beginning to wear thin. 1.9 should be brilliant.
