I understand a bit what you mean by protecting them- throughout the game he gave them instructions on what to do and how to go about things. He is also very wise. You can tell that he was once younger and used to be out fighting a lot more, and his epic skills reflect that. Do not underestimate the power of King Mickey; he's pretty much like the Dumbledore of KH. Dumbledore isn't the BEST at fighting, but his strength of mind and wisdom is a lot higher than almost everyone else in the game.

actually, everybody tends to one hit kill heartless in cutscenes.

 

I can understand him taking out Dusks in one hit. Sora, Donald, and Goofy all do so in cutscenes. Even Leon takes out a high-level heartless in one hit. But taking out a Darkside in one hit? I'm sorry, but even in cutscenes where it takes so much less to kill them, taking out two extremely large and rather powerful heartless in one hit each is just plain amazing.

Plus, in Hollow Bastion, he was ready to take on Xemnas, and even dove into the portal after him, keyblade drawn. I'm thinking he's pretty powerful.

 

But if he was so powerful then why was Xemnas still there for Sora to take down later?

BTW I'm mostly playing devil's advocate at this point. Don't get too angery.

 

I don't think we should determine strength by what happens in cutscenes or in gameplay. The one hit kill in cutscenes is just there for the convenience for the story and animation. We see Sora killing Heartless with one blow, but it still takes quite a few in gameplay.

We can only guess Mickey's strength from who he has protected, and from what.

 

Good point. Even in the begining of KH1, Sora Sonald and Goofy together are overtaken by Dusks, yet Mickey takes them all on singlehandedly.

So we can assume that he is stronger than any one of them individually at this point.

he is a strong mouse with a keyblade.

 

he's really strong in my opinion... and he's smart. He knows what he's doing and can easily take out heartless... as for the big ones... I've never seen him fight them... but I'm sure he could wipe 'em out, too :)
