Yeah, considering that metal is a sub genre of rock, rock is kinda the only answer.

    This.

Metal came from Rock, so rock is just as good

That is a debatable subject actually. Some (such as myself) see metal as developed so far to be its own genre. And don't give me the whole argument that they use the same instruments, as I can think of rap artists that use the same instruments.

Anywho, despite my view of them being separate instruments, metal is far too big a genre to try to say it as a whole is the better genre. While I personally love progressive, symphonic and power variants of metal, I tend to shy away from the more extreme forms such as doom metal or black metal.

Honestly, I find it to be an impossible choice as the two genres are far too big to compare directly.

i agree with the whole sub-genre thing of metal being under rock (heehee... under rock...) im a big classic rock fan because music was just plain better and more original back then

Really depends on the type of metal. Metal does fall under Rock though, that's obvious. Either way...Rock wins hands down because the Metal I've listened to just LOVES powerchords. Badass yes, much skill needed, no.
Don't get me started about powermetal. Most of it is...bleh. >-> *Points at DragonForce as an example*

Power metal fans hate DragonForce for this very reason (in case you're wondering, yes, this is part of the reason I hate them, too). They essentially tell people that all power metal is is super fast repetitive three chord bullshit. If you want good power metal bands look at Blind Guardian, Kamelot, Nightwish, Machinae Supremacy, Derdian, Galneryus, or Sonata Arctica.

O_o Metal v.s Rock is way too broad to be able to compare and choose between.

I like types of both and I dislike types of both.

    Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis ^ many times over.

There are some ****ing AMAZING power metal bands that are overlooked because of some of the **** stereotype that has evolved.

I'd choose Black Sabbath and Metallica metal.
For rock, I'd choose the style of Nickelback.
    I can't decide what's better though.

Both genres have evolved into something so diverse and broad, that you can hardly compete them against each other(although many still believe that metal is still a subgenre of rock). Though I prefer the more underground subgenres of metal (Such as Extreme, Black, Folk/Pagan, sometimes even deathcore) there are still a lot of untouchable alternative bands out there.

I second this. Sonata Arctica is an amazing band.

Rock. Metal (mostly) seems repetitive to me. Just angry stuff. Rock can be happy, angry, sad, etc.

Both are fantastic. Honestly, neither is better than the other; you can be super depressed and enjoy either. ;D

    I second this.

Metal is the farthest thing from repetitive.
