Which brings me to what I said before. Why would we get one and post downloads to copyrighted content which could get this place completely shut down. Not a good idea.
Plus lets not start jumping to conclusions. No need for mass panic when nothing huge has happened with the bill itself. I understand how bad the Megaupload incident is but hey its done now, not much we can do about that.

Back up or not, getting hacked is bad regardless.

You remind me, what exactly happened with the hacking?

Um I think the site was not backed up to a recent date and when someone messed it up, it all went back in time and caused some annoyance. Not sure who the hacker was but it was pretty scary...

I wish I was around to see it all happening.

    Sounds so funny.

eh, i'm pretty sure another one of those sites will pop up somewhere. always happens whenever these websites get taken down (not that that happens BECAUSE they get taken down)

Its not that we can't find another site to upload things to. Its all of the lost files that were on Megaupload.

If there are 3 of the 7 still on the run, what are they going to be able to do? They'll probably be wanted around the world. Where are they going to hide?

Thing is, I thought there were safe harbour rules to stop this sort of thing. In case anyone doesn't know, the "Safe Harbour Rule" means that a site hosting copyrighted content without actually knowing they do, or rather, very much not in control of if they do or not, cannot be prosecuted for hosting said copyrighted content because it's out of their control (afaik).

With Megaupload being taken down, if that means this rule is no longer being followed, which means that ... youtube, facebook, twitter, mediafire, rapidshare, photobucket, imageshack ... could all go down, just like megaupload has ...

That's as much as I know anyway. Let's not get in a panic about this, and hey, SOPA and PIPA probably aren't going to pass, so that's good ...

I feel like that kid from "Hackers" who runs and wipes the memory off every precious piece of hard drive.

I was honestly surprised by this. Yes because it was Megaupload but also since it had a tonne of legit users. I think it's an incredibly stupid thing to do. Not only have they unleashed the wrath of Anon they've also angered those that had done nothing wrong. They're only going to support Anon. And closing the site won't stop piracy. At least when it was up Megaupload removed files that were copyrighted (a site that size they did what they could). The only thing they've accomplished is ticking folk off.

This is.... really dumb. Like Kitty said, there were a lot of legitimate users who did nothing wrong. Lets hope that these bills won't pass, or else the internet is going to be one heck of a battleground.
