Dunno if this should be Spam Zone or somewhere else.

My friends and I started discussing how we've really been long overdue a female-lead Marvel film (at least, a good one. Let's ignore Elektra...)

Also, sorry if there's already another thread like this.

    My thoughts so far:
    • Captain Marvel: Carol Danvers is already getting her own film, so that's good...hopefully...
    • She-Hulk: she seems perfect for a TV series a la Daredevil.
    • Scarlett Witch: I was so pleasantly surprised with her in Age of Ultron, I really want more.
And the ones that have film license issues right now:
    • Storm: an obvious choice to me, and it'd be great to have her with Black Panther.
    • Psylocke: a crazy story that could be hard to pull off, but I hope to someday see it.
    • X-23: also pretty crazy story, and adamantium claws are just cool ok.

The only Avenger worse than Hawkeye? At least Hawkeye has a gimmick. All Black Widow's got going for her is that she's a "she" and looks good in tight outfits. Hm...now that I say it...I guess I'd be okay with it if the entire movie is about Black Widow posing every minute...

I should have added "beside the obvious one"...

    Spider-Gwen

And as much as Black Widow is a fun character, I don't think a solo film for her would be that strong. I feel that her story works best as that of a supporting character. I mean, she's been in 4 movies and it's only the last one where we got some good development from her. That's not to say that it would be bad, but I just don't think it would work.

Before Age of Ultron, she was just the "kick butt strong female", but didn't give much to her character. I get that people like that she can kick butt, but that doesn't mean she's a "strong character".

Spider-Gwen is literally four issues in to her first series. There's not really....well, any history to make a film out of.

Personally, I think Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman needs to be introduced (Captain Marvel was my first choice, but she's already getting one).

I meant it as kind of a joke, but I honestly do like the idea itself. It's the first comic series that I've been following. (Plus, less history means more room for interpretation).

But my idea mostly came from the whole thing of the "spider-man race thing" when everyone was saying that he had be be whatever race they were fighting for this new franchise and I was thinking "why not a woman?"

Black Widow got far better character development in The Winter Soldier than she did in Age of Ultron. We see her shaken, wounded, taken out of control, exposed to the world for her actions, and yet she moved on. All that occurs in Age of Ultron that was new is backstory from the Red Room stuck in a (rather poorly done) romance with Bruce Banner, and...extra resolve I guess?

Completely forgot about this. Need to rewatch it.

Hm...what about Wasp? Haven't heard anything about her being in the Ant Man movie.

Wasp was squashed before the movie began.

Man, Psylocke is the hottest X-Man. If you have a friend who doesn't like Psylocke then you have a terrible friend.

Spider woman ASP. As Hydra has fallen It would be a perfect timing for old hydra agents to show up, also she is not related to spider man per se, but it would be cool to be spider characters now, and she could be retconned to be related to him in the MCU.
I like Black Widow (and Scarlet), but Marvel doesn't seem to know what to do with her, she is always a "pair with x avenger", and that sucks... I think she has had some development in the first avengers when we learned from the hospital she destroyed and some missions with Hawkeye, and in Winter Soldier we got a more human side of her... the age of ultron thing was a mess they completely forgotten of the last Hulk movie? What about of Betty Ross? All female characters in MCU are underdeveloped, but they reduced all of the characters (Pops/Betty/Jane) at Black Widow why? Not to mention that even though I like the crazy astrophysicist he is a little reductant with Jane, she could had done his role at both avengers movies and thus expanding her further than just "Thor's girlfriend".

Besides Wasp, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch and She-Hulk? I really can't think of anyone who can fit in the MCU.

She's kind of more than just his girlfriend. She's one of the main reasons that Thor had so much development in the first movie. Aside from being exiled from Asgard. Loki had a big part in having Thor grow up much to his chagrin. But Jane kind of gave him the reason to protect Midgard/Earth...as did Loki. But my main point here is that Jane isn't just 'Thor's gf'. And I might need to re-watch The Dark World but I seem to recall that there were some tensions between them. When your main squeeze is on another plane of existence, it gives new meaning to long-distance dating. And Jane's only got so much time compared to his long lifespan.

Natalie Portman was pregnant at the filming of the first Avengers movie. Hence her being essentially 'in hiding' during Loki's temper tantrum. I guess Darcy wasn't important enough to mention?

And I agree with you that the writers of the MCU don't seem to know how to handle their female characters which leads to them being stuck in supporting roles to men or killed off before they get a chance.

Janet Van Dyne is killed in the backstory when working on the first Ant-Man suit. Many speculate that Hope Van Dyne will take up the mantle in the modern MCU, as Evangeline Lily noted that Hope was raised by two superheroes--implying that both Hank and Janet did their own superhero thing in the past, possibly as the first members of the Avengers Initiative.

This may or may not already be happening, according to rumors, but Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel would be cool to see on-screen. Gives us a fun teenage superhero with cool powers without retreading Spidey for the thousandth time, and a female Muslim one at that. Of course, Carol's Captain Marvel may need to come first, but it would be great to see at some point.

What do you mean? Both characters have enough story for their own movies.

I would say Silhouette but I guess it would probably tie in to New Warriors

Spider-Woman is still the only good answer.
If we're going X-Men, then I would say Storm, but that would really depend on the story. Psylocke would be good, but I'm kind of leaning towards a Magik/Shadowcat team-up.

And considering that new Thor reveal
Jane Foster would be awesome, but last I recall, they had to twist Natalie Portman's arm for her to come back for The Dark World.

Oh god, I've been hoping for a New Warriors adaptation for years. I had hoped that they would use them in like...a three part story of Agents of SHIELD to set up Civil War. There was even an actor, can't remember his name but he was the dick in The Covenant, who tweeted something like "Robbie Baldwin. SHIELD. Soon" but deleted it quickly and I was really hoping that was going to happen.
Come on, Marvel, I'll play Justice. Mutant or not, I'LL DO IT FOR FREE.

Even though the wasp is dead, a "come back" as Jocasta is possible (i think?).
They basically gave up Hank and his madness, but I can dream about it don't I?
