I'm sure someone already has thought of this (or everyone already knows why, I just didn't know), but why wasn't Luxord the one that was assigned Castle Oblivion? Isn't he the card-dude? Well, what do you think?

Perhaps because he was just new to the Org. & they wanted a more experienced member to handle it.

But if they wanted one more experianced, Luxord would be the one since Luxord is X{10} in the Organization to Marluxia's XI {11}.

That was likely the whole reason Vexen was there. I personally think the whole 'Our Superior assigned me in charge' was a bluff. That would be sort of like, "I'm taking over this computer lab since the President of the College said I could."

Xemnas' name, title wouldn't be taken lightly by anyone loyal to the Organization. Except those wishing to overthrow him.

There are alotta mysteries about Castle Oblivion in general...
While Im so glad they made Marluxia the focus of 3 boss battles [almost as highly regarded as Xemnas!!!] you do have a point about the whole Luxord thing-
Also, Luxord is apparently Nomuras fave character so it seems odd that he more 'signifigant' to the plot...

Yeah, I never realised this either, I'm happy they chose Marluxia, it might of been because Luxord wasn't trusted or something but Marly was.

Marluxia's cool. Thats why he was in charge heheh! :D Na umm...That's actually a good point about Luxord. Maybe Luxord would gamble a bit too much if he was there lol

Well, don't you think it's kind of strange that Marluxia, Vexen, and Larxene, the ones plotting to overthrow the Organization (Yes, Vexen was plotting because he was in on it) just happened to end up with their own castle that also just happened to contain a certain double agent?

Xemnas obviously knew that Marluxia was trying to take him out (How else wold you explain Axel?). Maybe Castle Oblivion was just a convenient, out-of-the-way place for members he doesn't like/trust.

It could have been a set up from Xemnas as others mentioned because putting Marluxia in charge would -obviously- make Vexen annoyed and stir things since he was so high-strung about his ranking compared to others. Also, Vexen did approach Zexion about Xemnas, trying to get information, and Zexion really wanted no part in it, but perhaps someone else in the Org caught wind of that. Marluxia was pompous and so easy to put in place, and he too was investigating things and knew about some stuff with Xemnas too and wanted to take him out. So in the end, putting the two sides against each other just by putting arrogant Marluxia in charge and placing Axel there who would do his -mission- regardless, was important. Axel didn't just kill Vexen because Marluxia ordered it, but also because Vexen was going to narc on Org plans pertaining to Roxas to Sora. Axel also lived through that whole thing, being the only Org survivor. I'm sure with what he did, Xemnas would have been really mad at him for well, assisting in sending people pretty well to their demises or instigating them. So it makes sense Xemnas might have planned it. It also makes sense why Axel felt so trapped in KH2 and fearful of leaving, while Roxas, being naive to it all, wasn't so worried.

The other thing could be that Marluxia was put in charge so that those on missions such as Xigbar, Saix, Luxord etc were doing their thing, but those who remained behind could squabble amongst themselves and not be able to organize anything much, such as a betrayal. If you put someone in charge others don't like, sometimes they just bicker and all, but you aren't going to really go against the head honcho if you have this bozo in your way. It's something corporations do often. I seriously and sincerely doubt he put Marluxia in charge having any real faith in petal man. He was just a tool as were the others. Sadly I think Lexaeus and Zexion though got caught up in that and probably weren't meant to unless they were giving Xemnas a hard time.
