Classic. It was one of the first franchises to get platforming right, and it's still fun as hell to play any of the games today.
You know you've made a great and endearing game when almost twenty years after it's original creation, people are stil talking about it and playing the game instead of blockbuster games that beat it hands down graphically and in story. Plus you smash goombas and eat mushrooms, what could be better?
Mario is considered god of gaming for a reason. ...However I think his time is pretty much up. Mario Galaxy wasn't as godly as other games. Truth, it was a great game. But games today are getting more and more bigger scale, dramatic, can't think of the exact word but I think you get my point. Look at games like CoD4, Gears, DMC, Halo, and of course MGS. They are considered perfect and are pushing the generation forward. Mario Galaxy may have gotten game of the year last year, and was just fun no matter what, but it doesn't push generations. Mario's time as god of gaming is coming toa close, and IMO, it came to close when Solid Snake entered the fray.
I loved the Mario series but...the games didn't really have a plot. At least shrooms make you gigantic and you kill by using your fat ass to crush turtles. That's an instant classic. Add an actual plot and we have something near perfect.
Grew up lovin' Mario. Still love to play some of the older game (Mario 3 is sweeeet!). Though, i was slightly disappointed by Mario Sunshine. I just couldn't get into it, but Galaxy made up for that. I agree with SJ, though. There are a lot more games now-a-days that folk would rather play instead of a wee chubby plumber.
