It doesn't seem to be particularly dramatic, but I'm currently watching one this season. Suki-tte Ii na yo. (Say "I Love You") Quiet and unassuming Mei Tachibana is 16-years-old, but has spent her high school years without making friends or getting a boyfriend because of a childhood incident that left her believing that people will betray each other sooner or later. When she encounters popular boy Yamato Kurosawa, he becomes interested in her and it is through their tentative friendship and blossoming relationship that Mei ultimately begins to branch out and befriend others.
wat? Shoujo is a demographic so it is VERY broad and you would probably do better naming the ones you know. Just keep in mind that the shoujo demographic typically share this in common - Main character is a girl - There very few girls characters(some exceptions such as Nana) - Majority of cast consist of handsome men - Yaoi overtones(optional but likely) Some quick examples are.... There's your problem. Anything based on a dating sim where the goal is to have the male main character unlock paths with several beautiful women is NOT a shoujo.
Tell her about Girl Got Game.It's really good. I've read eight volumes of it already( Argh!!! can't find the 9th volume of it. I'm so mad)It's a really good series. She should check it out.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika (Puella Magi Madoka Magika). The DEFENITIVE SHOUJO anime, it's not a classical Shoujo, maybe it's not a shoujo, but it is dressed like one.
