Alright, so, I'm talking with my friend Alexandra and she mentions a topic that kind of both ticked me off and met a good point in reality.

So, there is manga. The first step to the big success the future is to withstand. Fortunately, there is anime that comes afterwards and that sets a completely new standard for those who think they should watch the anime rather than "wasting time", as another friend said, on reading the manga. Honestly, I can agree with my friend Alexandra when I say that people are getting lazy these days. Not only with their chores and such, but it's started to adapt further into the literature. Big examples being novels turned into movies, and manga being turned into anime.

People seriously tell me that I'm a geek for not watching the anime and spending time more on the anime. Well, guess what? I'm further in the manga than you are into the anime. And not only that, but I actually know how to read most of the time, and understand the real plot and conflict the characters are going through. And not to mention, I can see a lot more into the story with the manga since there are more material to keep my busy eyes on. I'm tired of these people telling me of this stupid, stereotypical bullcrap all the time. Seriously, ticks me off most of the time.

However, I can understand where people are going when they say that they never knew there was a manga until then, and then they started to read it afterwards to see if there was more to it. Big examples being Elfen Lied, and Reborn!. Yes, Elfen Lied is still ongoing. But anyways, back to the matter of topic. The people I was talking about were the people who never strike the idea of reading for once in their life. No matter if it's a bunch of words or a bunch of panels, they never seem to realize that reading is not only good for your intellectuality, but also good for the fact that you can spot out things wrong with the series, and go right back to the manga once you got pissed afterwards.

( Although, I also understand where the studios are going by improvising some scenes that were just plain weird in the manga. Makes things go faster, I guess. )
So, here is your chance to enlighten the topic. What do you think of the laziness of not only the world, but the ever so loving otakus and nerds like us that we know today? Hope I didn't offend anybody by making this topic, I'm just trying to point out a subject in the best way I could.

I agree with you, actually. I don't enjoy anime as much as manga because I think that being able to pay attention to each scene and the dialog in that scene is more enjoyable than having it all whiz by you. You can read manga at your own pace; stopping to reread scene you didn't understand or that you just really enjoy. In anime it seems to only have the faint semblance of a plot.

It's the same with books, but a little different becuase in manga, they already show you what the character looks like. I like being able to picture the characters and settings as I think they will look based on their personality and the few traits that may be descirbed by the author. When you see it as a movie, it kind of forces out the fun in picturing the characters of a specific scene.

I wouldn't say that watching the animes or movie versions of books and mangas is exactly lazy, but it is definitely a step in that direction.

I like both anime and manga and I won't claim I'm lazy really, watching the anime instead of having to go dig up manga. Often times, I see the anime first and if I really like it, I research to find the manga since like any book to movie thing, the manga often have scenes that are left out of the anime. Also, the characters may be a lot more in depth in the manga.

I definitely wouldn't call you stupid for preferring the manga, but at the same time I wouldn't call someone else lazy for not reading the manga either. I do like books to movies often, though some movies can really be disappointing if they deviate too much from a book/comic book/manga because it has lost the meaning. I do know sometimes anime have to do things different than the manga, but at the same time if it's not changing too much of who the actual characters are, I don't mind. Mostly what I get annoyed with in anime are the 'fillers' because they often are just lame ways to hold over fanboys/girls until the good stuff comes out again.

I do think though that many people enjoy seeing movies or the anime etc because it is so much more flowing than just reading and they can come out really well if some people work at it. I probably would just read mangas of my favorite stuff if the anime were really done up poorly, but this way gives different angles on your favorite things. If I were you though, I would just ignore those who say you shouldn't bother with the manga. You are getting a better deeper view into the characters and plots so it's worth it to do.

I agree completely. I like both manga and anime, but the whole thing is exactly like the novel-to-movie phase going on in Hollywood at the moment. It seems that 98% of the time, the book is better than the anime/movie. And they often change plots and characters in animes drastically and it ruins the whole thing. So, in my opinion, the manga is usually better than the anime.

But I wouldn't consider people who only watch anime lazy. They're just simply missing out on the whole story.

I like watching anime and reading the manga. It’s not lazy to watch the anime either. Action movies and a lot of shonen I like to watch. I would still read the manga version of it but I like to watch the anime because the action scenes are much better. But with Shojos it is better to read the manga because it goes more into character depth. So to me, its not bad doing one or the other but its not being lazy to watch the anime because some scenes may be better animated.

    Hopefully that helped alittle.

I like anime and manga but I can be a tad bit lazy and I'd then rather to watch anime.
The plat is better in the manga than in the anime, I'll say that.
But not all people who watch anime aren't exactly lazy though.

Not necessarily, there are differences, like some of them refuse to show the same story and events as their counterparts: Code Geass, Escaflowne, probably more. Others are pretty much turned to crap through bad art or some other transitional difference between the two. But most of the time you're about right.

I try to read the Manga before I watch an Anime.

I've found with some series (Like Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist) that the Manga is far better than the Anime. :X

And I wouldn't say I'm lazy, since I read FAR more than I watch television.

Well I wouldnt say watching the anime is lazy, its really more of a preference. Some people get bored of reading hundreds and hundreds of b&w chapters of still pictures. And the novels and mangas being turned into movies and anime is definitely not lazy either because they come out much further after their written forms. By then they already have their fanbase and popularity. All the hype comes from those who've read the manga and are eager for the anime, that then go and tell friends about it who may become interested enough to watch all the anime and even go back for the manga. If anything, its certain places that are more lazier than others, because in Japan the amount of mangas dwarf the amount of animes (taking into account both the professional and doujin numbers of each) so there's no lack of reading there. There's also the fact that I find more and more series that make its way into stores and just arent that good. Then they make anime versions just because the manga was produced by a big company and the anime reflects the shoddy work of the manga. In that case I'd prefer just cringing though the anime as opposed to cringing through the manga. I myself enjoy both forms equally as much, I just get bored with ones that go on for eternity with characters not changing too much (Naruto, bleach, etc.)

I actually like both manga and anime. When I watch something, I grow into liking it and then..i research the manga. That is unless they have it. But I prefer manga. It's easier to understand for me, and also you're reading it... seems more funner to me. Watching the anime is fun, but it brings me to confusion.

When I get into a series I usually go by the anime first and then I follow it through with the manga. The anime has the character developement and vivid details about past events, vivid imagery and such. The manga has the same elements , but they present it in a more questionable fashion. The manga makes you tend to think more about the concepts of the characters or plot from a out of the box view where as the anime, you simply just keep watching all the epiosodes.

I despise book movies, but I am more accepting of Anime, providing the Anime is almost literally the manga with colour and animation.

Also, I cannot get manga anywhere but the net. My father will not allow me to print a book worth of stuff, so the logical thing to do is read online. That is awkward, so I don't mind whether it is anime or manga.

The only reason I like anime more than manga is cause of the addition of sound, motion, and (for the most part) color.

There's nothing wrong with watching the anime and reading the manga. Most times I've found that the manga is better than the anime. But not in all cases

i much prefer manga. I mean, i use to watch anime all the time and that was a time i didnt even know the word manga but, now i read manga more than i watch anime.
It seriously makes me frustrated when some people say that there's more to the storyline in the anime than there is in the manga. that is a load of crap. Unfortunately like some other people, i have to read my manga online, mainly because of financial issues since I know a comic store about 30 minutes away from where i live.

    *InuYasha fan walks in*

I agree, InuYasha is one of those that drastically change from manga to anime in so much ways like there were so much filler episodes and they actually added characters that ACTUALLY became important to the series, and the fact they only had 167 episodes >_> when in fact they were over 500 chapters in the manga, and the animation in the beginning was utter crap :P

another example of a manga they changed a lot was Fullmetal Alchemist. There were never any time skips in the manga. I mean the anime was superb but they did add in stuff that was not in the manga. I have a friend that was a complete anime freak and when I suggested to them that they should read the manga of a certain anime they liked, they were shocked at how much was left out.

It's important to understand that anime is always an adaptation of the work it's representing, whether it's a manga, game, visual novel, etc.

It's very rare that an anime will follow the route of its origin to the end, so when people watch an anime, I wouldn't readily call it laziness if they decide not to read the manga because it boils down to what you want to get out of it. Manga has a lot more room to explore character dynamics and elaborate plot because frankly, the writers are not constrained by a half hour limit per episode, nor an episode limit per series.

You have to remember that anime is a business much like Hollywood is. So to answer your question, movies and anime are not so much a 'lazy' attempt at conveying a piece of literature/art, but rather they are bound by certain restrictions. But because we're dealing with anime, I'll discuss that aspect. Anime length is usually blocked off in three major groups: 12-13 episodes, 24-26 episodes, and 26+ episodes. This is because 12-13 episodes will usually last about 3 months (half a season), 24-26 episodes will last about 6 months (which make up the Fall season, or the Spring season), and in the case of Gundam series which are almost always 50 episodes, these last an entire year, and of course you have longer ones like One Piece, Shippuuden, Bleach, D. Gray Man, etc. So when a manga/visual novel/game is contracted to be turned into an anime, screenplay writers have to consider which of those three cut offs would be able to best capture the original work. Now also bear in mind that series over 26+ episodes are a lot more expensive because you're literally on air season after season after season. Inuyasha is a prime example of an anime that crashed and burned from a business stand-point. At the time, the anime went so far ahead of the manga that it just decided to go on its own path. This led to fillers that didn't mean much (all the while, it constantly needed to be funded to keep it in production and on air). Because the cohesiveness of it began faltering, the ratings went down, they lost sponsors, and then just called it quits. That's why the final episode of Inuyasha was as abrupt and as terrible as it was.

Anyway, going back to series lengths; most manga are either too short on material, or have too much of it. This is why you have so many added 'anime-only' material that never appeared in the manga/visual novel/game, or you have massive cuts made in the material so that it'll fit. These are the situations where people go "Boo, the anime rushed everything", and while that is disappointing, it's usually not a question of artistic integrity as it is a question of simple business. It's not that "this part sucks, we're gonna leave it out", but rather "We only invested enough money for a 13 episode series, not a 26 one, so we need to make some cuts."

Personally, if anyone liked a series fervently enough, they'd seek out all sources of it. Of my favourite works, I'm usually reading both the manga and anime because both have different things to offer which are both usually really great. If someone chooses to only watch an anime, or only choose to read the manga/visual novel/game, then that just means there is something about that particular rendition that appeals to them more so than the actual work being rendered. It's not laziness to only want to watch Black Cat anime if all you're interested in is the gunslinging animation and musical score. It's preference.

ALrite, I completely disagree with ur 'anime is lazy' stuff. There is a major thing that anime provides that manga does not, and thats actually watching the things happen instead of looking at pictures. Not only that, but you get a better idea of how these people are individuals, as in what their voices are, as well as being able to hear the music in the backround which is a GREAT add on to anime's. It gives you a better idea of how it is.

it is no offense to manga now on my part, since manga has a lot more detail then anime's do. I myself don't read manga, but I sure as hell aint dissen it. I only dont read it becuz I prefer to watch the anime since the manga would then spoil it for me, in a sense.
