It's not myth- there have been flying swallow only speed-runs. It's very easy to not be vulnerable while using it.

It's impossible to use it as the only attack, you need range weapons a handful of times to advance for sure.
And I thought you were comparing it to Fable's 'Hit X to win' sort of ease of playing the game.

Myth. Selling easier is more like it. It's not a long-term strategy.

In modern games absolutely, but I was talking about Ninja Gaiden relative to other retro games, which I assume has fairly simple AI. Take your standard Ninja Gaiden enemy, do they have more than a few attacks at their disposal? Are they not either randomly chosen, or chosen based on specific parameters (ex. the player is a certain distance from the enemy, so the enemy executes a certain attack, and perhaps when they are closer the enemy randomly chooses between two different attacks)?
My argument was that it's just as unfair to kill a player in DuckTales for not having endured tons of trial and error as it is in Ninja Gaiden for not having enough time to respond to a semi-random attack they haven't seen before. In that respect, I wouldn't call Ninja Gaiden especially better designed, because that still sounds like trial and error to me. Patterns are an important part of any game in the genre, but a well-designed game should give the player a means to react to and learn the pattern without getting killed immediately.

I disagree, but not completely. There are many games that have really good design these days, but I'm seeing a lot of design flaws these days too that I didn't see in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, one of the biggest errors being how players learn to play the game and deal with obstacles.
