In Kingdom Hearts one(as I recall) Maleficent was defeated by Sora and was killed.
Xehanort\Riku said she was a fool for not noticing the darkness eating her heart.
Most of us believe she was turned into a heartless. But she comes back in Kingdom Hearts two. Have you ever wondered why this time around she is so much weaker
and arrogant. I mean, through the whole game all she wanted was a castle?
Its like shes a whole different person, well maybe she is a whole different person.
Since Maleficent was turned into a heartless, maybe the person who calls herself
Maleficent in Kingdom Hearts Two, could be Maleficent's nobody.
Please tell me if I'm wrong and why.

Uhm, that's a good question and hard to explain. My personal theory is that her heart didn't disappear like with any other victim of the heartless - Riku/Ansem used his blade to open her heart so that the darkness overflowed and she became the dragon etc. Though I think the heart was still intact. She is a wicked witch, after all, and a strong one we should not underestimade - just the very memory of her could bring her back to life.

So I believe that the Maleficent we've seen in the games is the same somebody Maleficent. And she may have wanted a new stronghold since she's aware of trusting others isn't enough to succeed her evil plans, thus starting from scrap with a (powerful) castle. (she pretty much lost Hollow Bastion, especially after it returned into Radiant Garden - do we even know how she's like at her full power and still regain control of herself?) I can't explain that part tho, sorry.

    i have two solutions
1.her heart wasnt strong enough to become a strong nobodie
2.the heartless didnt take her heart she leaned to the dark in her heart allowing her to control the power of darkness

In all likelihood, she's the same Maleficent we've known in the first game. She doesn't control any lesser Nobodies, and she still controls the Heartless. If anything at all, she might be a Heartless herself, just as Xehanort's Heartless.

I'm pretty sure that as others have said, Maleficent is the same Maleficent as was seen in KH. She also showed up in CoM versus Riku and since the Nobodies themselves didn't expect it, I believe in part that might have been the real Maleficent too, or maybe I had something wrong with that. Zexion did comment though that he scented both Riku (though he says it smells like the superior) and Maleficent in the lowest level of the castle. Riku defeated her and she was gone. If somehow that wasn't the -real- Maleficent, Sora did enough of a beating on her in KH.

I believe that though Riku/Ansem opened her heart up to Darkness fully in KH1, that she wasn't made into a Heartless, but just a dark being fully exposed to the powers. She also has the raven Diablo in KH2 that is seen with her dress which when the faeries remember her, she reforms. So I'd gather that she had a back up plan in case she was defeated and the raven carried it out in Kh2 so she'd return to life fully. Therefore, she never really became a Nobody, because her spirit must have remained in tact to return through some magic. That's about the best way I can explain it and hope to be right.
