Alright so since I want some other peoples opinion on this I decided to start a thread here. So through out my life I've always heard of people making out randomly, bestfriends making out and the brushing it off like it's nothing, talking about it casually and stuff, it's alright because it's just for fun. I on the other hand have always been more of the kind that thinks it's a pretty big deal when making out, I could never just randomly make out with my bestfriend, intoxicated or not, just for fun or not, nor would I do it with some total stranger.

So like, I don't know if anything I'm saying is making any sense so here's my question: Is making out a big deal or not? Am I just making a big deal out of something that's really not a big thing or am I correct in thinking it's a pretty big deal?

Well in my opinion, even a kiss (like a real kiss, not like on a cheek or anything) is something that should be saved for the one person with whom you're in love, just like sex. Making out, being a sort of in between to those, is no different. I hold this true to my heart, not even having given away my first kiss yet because I haven't met in real life the person I with whom I trust it. It signifies a bond between two people that love each other, even before going to the next step.

I think making out among friends really is pushing it. Even best friends break up friendships at some point. Yes, all high schoolers out there, you most likely will not have your best friend for life. My best friend and I haven't spoken in years. And if it's in high school, it gets more awkward, or if a fight happens, it will come back to haunt you. I think making out should be at least semi-private if it's five seconds from throwing yourselves on the floor and doing it right there in public. That's TMI for way too many people.

I think it's also inappropriate in certain places, like high school. Yes, I've seen kids make out in high school, some in front of the Principal with him just standing there ignoring everything. It's disgusting, and I think disrespectful. And one of them was my best friend with her boyfriend, so I'm not saying I don't know what it's like to be in love. But not like that in public.

The same can be said for anything, really. There are people who have sex and insist that it doesn't mean anything, people who drop huge chunks of money without giving it a second thought, etc. Personally? I think people should think about what they do before they do it and practice a bit of self-preservation, but sometimes there are people just looking to have fun. There's nothing wrong with that.

I will have to say that it really does depend on the circumstances for me. As Keyblade Spirit said, kissing is something shared between two people who have a deep affection for each other, not just lust. When I do see someone kiss (like a short peck or something like that), I usually don't mind it, because it's something that we technically are exposed to at a young age. However, full on make out should really be something that is either secluded for privacy or certain occasions (proposals, aniversaries, etc.) and even some of those cases are pushing it.

Case in point, I was at the campus's anime club last Monday and sat next to this husband and wife, who seemed to be really close. When they first did one of "those" kisses, I really didn't find too much wrong with it. However, every five minutes, the guy seemed to just...want more. I tried to look away, but a corner of my eye seemd to track to them making out. It was totally inaappropriate but I didn't really want to say anything. It was really gross to see and I'm not the only one who saw them distracting.

People can choose to do what they want, as far as relationships go. Provided basic respect in public is necessary, but apart from that, it's fine. People can go post-marital only, if they want, or they can be hedonistic. Provided it's consensual, I don't really have a problem with it.

    In essence.
    No.
If it's casual it shouldn't be a big deal. Your'e doing because you want the pleasure from doing it.
However, if it's with a person you care for than it sohuld be a a big deal, any advancement in a relationship you care about will feel like a big deal.
For me, casuals there for the short run. A relationship is for the long term.
As long as you can distinguish between the two, it makes things mor comforable.

I personally wouldn't be able to make out or even kiss my best friend. A small peck might go, but it still feels wrong to me.
Kissing and making out has always been a very serious thing for me. My first kiss just has to be with the person I am in a serious relationship with; there's this huge meaning to it that prevents me from just going around and kissing people.

People's views, when it comes to this, are somewhat controlled by the culture they've lived with. In Finnish culture you don't usually greet with a kiss; you shake hands, maybe give a quick hug. But kissing, never. Unless it's your loved one. A kiss might be an excellent way of saying "hello" in some other cultures, but I myself can't imagine doing it just like that.
Buuut I think I'm a bit off track with this post, considering how different greeting kisses are compared to a "real" one.

tl;dr I make out with my guy and no-one else kthxbye.

I think it's only a big deal if you make it one. It's all down to opinion. The people you know may think it's no big deal and do it everywhere with anyone but that doesn't mean it can't be important to you!

Honestly? Kissing is a big deal for me. So of course making out would be. I mean...If someone doesn't think it is, then I'm not going to go around judging them or calling them a **** or anything, but it's a personal choice and in my opinion giving someone affection in such a way should be special. It's a way to express love or passion to someone, so I wouldn't go around making out with random people I had none of those feelings for.

    It's making out.

It's about as meaningful as... well I'm amazed if it means anything to anyone.

Oh hey, it's this thread! I completely forgot this existed, lots of people misinterpreting what I meant but whatever lawl.

So you'd be able to just randomly make out with your bestfriend? Since like, it's not meaningful at all you know.

I think making out with someone you genuinely care about is a far richer experience than shoving your tongue in the mouth of someone you barely know or aren't romantically involved with. I don't have a problem with people snogging with their latest pick-up though. Let them do as they please.

    This.
To be honest, I don't see making out as a big a deal as some people make it out to be, but I would never recommend making out with your best friend for the hell of it. There's already strong feelings there (hence why they're your best friend) and making out might evolve that into something more.

Or how about your sister or mother? I mean, it's all fun with no meaning. Why not?

Why would you even say that? Making out with your best friend isn't incest. There's a thick line between making out with family members and making out with friends.

His argument is that you are viewing making out as a game, like Monopoly or Checkers. Something you can play with all people. He's taken this stance because it has been stated that it is not meaningful, on the same level as a board game. If you acknowledge that it is inappropriate to make out with family members, then it must also be acknowledged that making out has more meaning than previously stated.

Incest is only illegal if sexual relations arise, IIRC. Therefore arguing along the lines of incest won't work.

If it really would have no meaning to either of them, then I'm not stopping them (nor should anyone).
The thing is though, it is most likely to have some meaning to it, hence why so few people even dare the thought of it.
That being said, how much meaning you're willing to give to it is anyone's choice. If he's fine with tongue-twisting whatever's in sight, then who are we to tell him otherwise?

Let me add my 2 cents to this. I speak from personal experience. First of all: You are making this too big a deal. Second: No you shouldn't just make out with your best friend just for the hell of it. Making out is fun. And that's all it's meant to be. If you like it then you like it. If you don't you don't. It is something that should be saved up for that "special person" in your life that you love and shouldn't be wasted on just anyone. I have made out with my fiance on several occasions. By making out you mean kiss and touch then yes. But if you mean making out as taking it a step further then that... Well then you would be out of your mind to do it with your best friend. Even if your best friend means a lot to you. And just some person on the street... Are you sure were not talking about harlots here?
