Since my current laptop is wonkier than a one legged donkey (seriously, half the time it doesn't start up!) so i've been thinkin' of buyin' myself a macbook. It'll be mainly for college work so i thought perhaps a MacBook Pro 13-inch.

I was wonderin' if anyone has that model n' if so how it performs. N' whether or not if i should perhaps get the 15-inch version.

    Cheers me dears.

Macs are great. I'm not sure what experience you've had with macs so far but I got one over the past summer and I'm happy with it. Safari is one of the fastest browsers ever, not to mention its really personable and easy to customize. I havent had any problems with mine so far. It also doesnt get viruses as easily pc's do, because most viruses are made for pc's anyway. People say they suck, but as a PC user for like 10 years they really are the same in most areas. At some point it comes down to personal preference.

But by all means, I recommend them. They perform really well, they're fast, and easy to use.

    /mac commercial. XD

I can't help you with this. I don't know anything about macbooks, let alone a specific model.
But because I think that there are others here who do use MacBooks and can help you, I suggest you make a thread in the spam zone linking to this thread, because very few people look in this section.

Mac's run fantastically. If you don't want to bother with things like Windows OS -cough- then get one. But be aware it isn't opensource so no freedom : D

Macs? I'm using one right now. They are superb insofar as to have a smoother OS and crash less. Unfortunately very few things are programmed for mac. You can find freeware for mac, but windows stuff doesn't run on it without Bootcamp. Fortunately, that means that you never have to worry about viruses again, because no one codes them for mac.

If you don't plan on using obscure Windows programs or running games, you should be fine.

While we're on this topic, using Bootcamp for mac's will make it slower?

And also does running bootcamp mean you can also get infected by PC viruses?

The programming for PC viruses doesn't match Mac programming language. So no, it wouldn't affect you (I would think).

I wouldn't be playin' games on it. It's purely for college work n' interwebin'. So no worries there.

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks :)
Then, I recommend you get a 13-inch or a Air. The 13-inch and air have various simalarities, such as the Air having a 120GB capacity, and the 13-inch having similar features. However, the only downside of the Air is that it only has 1 USB Port and it's storage is quite small :(

The problems i find wiht macs are lack of decent numbers of USB slots, MASSIVE overpricing, small screens, small HDDs and some of them are more fragile than a normal laptop.

I'm running a 24 inch iMac, and It's the best purchase I've made in my life. Yes, you can run Windows on a mac, if you ran Parallels or Bootcamp, although I just mostly use Snow Leopard.

However, i wouldn't sugest getting a Macbook Air. It's the design that kinda gets me. Not exactly sure why.

And as for the USB slot and other problems...
It has 4 slots. Same as a PC, or most that I see. Soem Macs have 2, because IT'S A LAPTOP. USB hubs are your friend. Overpricing? Nullified, why? You're getting what you're paying for. Macs don't F*** around.

    Great system overall.

The macbook I have, i've had for now over a year, and it runs the exact same as it did when i brought it out of the box. Battery live may have dipped slightly, but since i don't use it for gaming, it is perfect.

Bootcamp isn't running simultaneously, and you choose which OS to boot into on startup. Thus all your RAM is used for whichever one you choose, so it doesn't slow down in the slightest.

PC Viruses? Well the Windows half can be infected, but as it can't write to the Mac partition, you should be safe.
