Oh yeah, I liked her too, but she was far more annoying to me than Mako or Jakuzure ever were, up to the end of the series.

What the heck? Is this a real plot about high schoolers taking over the world or something? Everyone's treating it as serious.
And what the hell is with that skimpy outfit change at the end, that's just random and overly sexual even for fantasy battle gear.
Oh anime, I can never take your attempt at intense characters seriously with plots and clothes like this.

Maybe you could try watching a few episodes instead of making a closed-minded statement like this? And really, less clothing instantly makes a story and characters ridiculous?

    I like it.

Maybe it's bad "compared to the Japanese dub," but people listened to those dubs so little when they praise it that they have no idea why why in TTGL his name is pronounced see-moan. (The answer is every single time in the Japanese dub they say SHIMONE!)

So once again, I don't want to hear crap about it honestly. I think it says a lot about people with minimum exposure to the source rating it.

I'm just critiquing the voices as they fit the characters in my opinion; I really like the English Sanageyama and Nonon, for instance. I don't really care as much for if it's close to the original. I far prefer the English voices of DBZ's Goku and Vegeta, and the English dub of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and some other English dubs, because they fit the characters better in my opinion than the Japanese voices do.

But still, at least one casting is seriously bad to me: Senketsu. I don't think I'll have that judgement swayed anytime either.

Because we leave in all the Ingrish because it's close to the source material.

It's just funny to me that dude... All the stuff you listed was tough that had hyper English exposure when people our age were younger (at least FMA in general). Do you ever wonder if that's coincidence...?

I didn't mind armor man so much... I minded Nonon not being Kari Wahlgren mainly.[DOUBLEPOST=1401495652][/DOUBLEPOST]
That's how they pronounced his name. Maybe that's his name.

It's funny to want every actor to replicate the source, but when the translators do that IT'S A PROBLEM PUT ON OUR FANCY CRITIQUING HATS

I do wonder it, and it's something I always keep in mind when I consider how I view anime (and even Godzilla movies) in terms of the voice acting fitting the characters.

Also, now I have an idea for a thread...

am I the only one that thinks the dude that does Gamagoori doesn't fit him at all? It might just be me not liking the way that dude sounds when he screams though

That's what every weeb I end up having this argument with says. But yes you're right, it would be an awful awful decision.

To clear bias- I prefer a lot of shows in subtitles (not a majority, but lots), specifically I'll point to Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. That show loses A LOT in english. The dub is fantastic and all the characters nail their roles, but that show used ingrish to make a point so often that part of the experience is lost on translation.

Glad you're aware of it. This is a legit question mind you, I'm not setting up to put you down- I genuinely want to know what you think... Do you think it's odd that I've had no exposure to this show, outside of tumblr images people reposted here all the time, and I think it sounds pretty good? Meanwhile you've had a lot of exposure to the show, watching it and all, and you're unimpressed with a lot of roles, right? Do you think it could just come down to these characters were made larger than life upon your first exposure to them and hearing them sound any different just will always sound wrong?

I ask because that's how I feel about Gurren Lagann. If Kamina doesn't sound like Gohan, there's a problem to me. No matter how good people say the Japanese actor is, he just sounds like he's in a place where he doesn't belong. Is that what this trailer is sounding like to you?

I actually thought he was one of the worst ones, but it's not the kinda bad I couldn't eventually learn to ignore.

PSG had a pretty rough dub. The characters fit but that didn't make the dub good, imo.

Oh, no worries, I know by now that you're above simply shooting down discussion without proper cause.

As such, I don't think it's odd at all for you to have no qualms with the English dub...yet. The reason I do is (besides obviously being used to the original Japanese voices,) they just straight up sound better for the roles that they play in the story. I really don't think I could explain for Senketsu without divulging spoilers, but at least with Ryuuko, the English voice doesn't have the same air of confidence that she needs (especially evident to me when she says the transformation line.) Meanwhile, Sanageyama's (dude with bamboo sword) English voice sounds just right for the honorable-yet-cooky warrior, and Jakuzure (pink haired girl) has just the right high-pitched feminine voice that can attract or annoy for being a band leader. Mako (brown hair girl) almost has it down too.

Funny enough, I used to really dislike the English voice for Kamina, until earlier this year when my friends introduced someone to Gurren Lagann. (Unsurprisingly, he preferred the English voice because he barely watches anime, yet loves Dragon Ball Z.) The English voice did grow on me to the point that he sounds fine, but I still think there's something just lacking in the performance compared to the Japanese original. No way in hell will I try to call myself professional at perceiving the differences between the English and Japanese languages and all that jive. So as for the trailer....I don't think it's like that for me, as I've already explained how I think some of the castings fit the characters.

It's a trailer, it's suppose to give me a sense of the series. If it's accurate then i'm not that interested, seems like Battle Royal, which was ok, but different. If it's inaccurate, well I have nothing else to go on. There are so many shows out there, this doesn't seem taking a chance on when I have other stuff to watch. I'm waiting for an anime to pique my interests again, but i'm still just riffing off my childhood nostalgia to watch again, as the usual high school, magical girl, mega mechas and such just bores my mind since i've seen it all done before.

Unless the story's about prostitution, sexual abuse or something that just shows the harsh contrast between fighting and sexualisation. Otherwise, fighting massive magical battles in skimpy clothing is incredibly ridiculous. Traditional superheroes are ridiculous in the same way. Batman, Spiderman, all of DC and Marvel is still pretty ridiculous if not characterised or balanced well. I mean, it's grown men in colourful spandex with super powers and secret identities. That's just mental. It wasn't until stuff like Watchmen shifted the idea of superheroes as being flawed to an incredible degree and show the ridiculousness as being quite tragic.
Also I mentioned ridiculous plots as a detraction. They're not always bad, I like quirky and different ones, but since it's based around the high school theme, I couldn't care less.
I could also talk about terrible writing of anime, partly due to being lost in translation, partly due to generally bad Japanese writing, with reliance on tropes, stock characters, overly complicated plots and other such generalisations that have plagued the genre's stagnant writing for years.
