What PS3 games have strong online modes with an active to semi-active community? The games I've played: Black Ops Bad Company 2 Red Dead Redemption Warhawk Mag SOCOM4 Borderlands Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Not to say I only like shooters.
Uncharted 2? Uncharted 2 has a very dedicated online fanbase that plays a ton of multiplayer, the game is also aces in quality. Though maybe it would be best to just wait for Uncharted 3 if you're going to go with Uncharted. Still, I'd give it a shot if you wanted to play a good online game.
Killzone 3 and Burnout Paradise have active communities. And they're also both very good games. Marvel vs Capcom 3 seems to be the top fighting game online so you could try it if you're interested.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Games can be a wee bit frustrating at times, but it's a fun multiplayer with lots of modes to play.
Especially when you have Kitty running everywhere when you are supposed to be stealthy. >: I'd say uncharted 2 for some fun, I found it fun. XD I love it and the storyline. Little Big Planet 2. Mod Nation racers has a cute community as well.
I forgot to add Brotherhood to list. I'm not patient enough to play it. I run around when I'm supposed to be stealthy too. xD
Hold the phone! I only ran when I needed to escape or made my kill and needed to hide. I was not one for running straight at my target. That's lame. You hurt my feelings. ;___; Besides, I whooped your toosh. ;P And to stay on topic...I'd also suggest Resistance 2. It's got a solid co-op and competitive mode. Heck, even Resi 5 is fun if you like the game.
I liked the Gold Edition of Res5 because of the extra missions, but I didn't like the original game itself.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 still has a nice sized online group. Plenty of people are on most of the time. I should know... i'm one of them.
Not just Marvel but any fighter TBH. It's a great genre with a huge following and there's so much to learn in them.

Little Big Planet DOES still have a huge online community (even in the first game), so those are worth giving a try. People have made CoD type zombie levels so it can be a shooter whenever you want it to be...
Why not these I mean if your into racing Need For Speed Undercover. That game sucks so much. The story is terrible, but I heard the online play is intense. Also Midnight Club LA and Saints Row 2. Yo that game right there SR2 is the legit stuff right there. Can't go wrong with that game.
wipEout. If you got it from the PSN Welcome Back package, the online mode is used by plenty of people and brutality is incredibly common.
