k, so a new resturaunt opened up about 2 miles from where I live. I applied before the place opened and got the job as a busser. I was one of the first two busboys. And lemme tell you, opening day wasn't fun. But it's getting pretty good, and I'm like it there. Lotta cool cats work there too. So, anyways, as tough as the job is, I like it. I actually lost weight because of it. But I'm really frustrated because the place discouraged tips because it was their policy to have a family of 4 or 5 or sumthin' eat there at $40 or so. And it sucks, because less and less people started tipping. But here's the fun thing. Now, they're donating all tips to ****ing charity. Sure it's charity. Helps the world, but tips are part of my salary and 2, if a company gives part of its profits to charity, they get to play less taxes. Double win for them, but it sucks for me. Also, I called in sick Monday. Said I had a stomach virus and migrane. Manager said it was bad. Said that even if I have a headache and stomache (not stomach virus and migrane, see how he made it less than what it really was?), that I should come in, but he'll let it slide this time, but next time, that's it. And then I found out only 4 people came during my shift, and I ended up saving them money because it was 1 less person to pay and they had a busser anyways. And that's it. Honestly, I don't need advice. I'm just going to roll with the punches. There are stores next to it, but it'll be the same since I won't get tips anyways. Oh, and you have to ask for a break. If you don't, they won't care if you go for more than 5 hours for a shift without one (and 5 hours is the limit in my state for 16 & 17 year olds). They won't make sure of it. And that super bothers me too. And I don't like to eat during my shift because I'll have to stand in the back of the kitchen. And there's no real place for employees to sit without sitting with the customers, so I sit out back on the stairs. Which is impossible if it rains.
That sucks. That's how life is. Supply and demand. They use you for their own benefit. Just hang in there.
Well, none of that sounds too serious but adding them up it could become quite a drag. I know you don't want any advice but I'd keep my eyes open for a better deal if I were you, though judging from your observation of the other stores, I think you're already doing so.
