No, but seriously, it doesn't affect me too much. If I do it several days in a row and then go back to normal schedule, it'll catch up with me sometimes, but yeah.

    • My last activity on here was at 2:05 AM
    • I went to bed around 2:30 AM
    • I fell asleep around 3:30 AM
    • I woke up around 6:40 AM

I had closed Mozilla Firefox to go to bed around 12:40 AM, but I was checking something as a guest on Google Chrome. It ended up with me going to Google Maps and using the map and street view to virtually go from Ellensburg to Seattle and then on Interstate 5. Before I knew it, it was almost 3:00 AM. I had gotten as far as Burlington.

This is also the second time I've gone straight from waking up to driving my mom to work, but I put cold water on my face and then used the AC in the car on full blast directed at my face. The first time was when I intentionally went to bed around 2:30 AM and didn't fall asleep until around 3:30 AM, and the second time was this time.

The cold water and AC do wonders.

Kitty's right. You and/or someone else could get hurt if you keep doing this.

    Eh. I'm fine.

And I'm not always doing this. It was sort of a joke because of how close the two times were and that they were within the same week.

Just because it's been fine so far doesn't mean it always will be.

If I'm not mistaken, you've relayed similar experiences on here before.

Chrom would say "anything can change!"

But the fact that Amaury will likely get in a wreck like this can't.

You mean of me running on lack of sleep? Yeah, but it's not like I do it every day. Nine times out of ten I'm in bed before 1:00 AM.

It's not a big deal, though. Unlike other drivers, even if I'm tired, I have never fallen and will never fall asleep behind the wheel.

Well, I'm more alert as it is, anyway. But statistically speaking, at least from what I've read, the people that do fall asleep behind the wheel have done that because they were running all day without sleep rather than waking up with little sleep.

To elaborate and simplify it, if a person goes to bed at 3:00 AM after being up since 6:00 AM the previous day and wakes up at 6:00 AM and has to drive, they are less likely to fall asleep behind the wheel because they still got some sleep. However, if the same person were to drive without any sleep at all that morning or later that day at 11:00 PM, they'd definitely be more likely to fall asleep behind the wheel.

Of course, it also varies from person to person. I've never fallen asleep behind the wheel from little sleep. When I still had my learner's permit and we were driving back from Seattle around 10:00 PM, my mom kept asking me if I was okay and if she needed to drive because I was sort of going back and forth between each side of my lane (not terribly bad and not the whole way) because I was tired, but that was a few years ago and I was a still a novice -- I haven't had any problems since. As a final note, when I argued back that she was tired, too, she said she had more experience, though I'm not exactly sure what that had to do with anything because it means that neither of us should have been driving from a technical point of view, right?

    Yeah, no.

It's not just about falling asleep behind the wheel, if you're tired your attention is shot and your reaction will be slower. You can still cause a serious accident.

That isn't the point they are trying to make though, just because you feel fine doesn't mean you are and more importantly risking the safety of others isn't right. Do whatever you want to yourself, you have that right. However when you risk the safety of others, that's a huge problem.

Take it from me, accidents CAN and DO happen and when they do, people get hurt and they have to suffer and deal with what happens because of that accident for the rest of their lives.

More than anything else though (and please don't think I am "attacking you" here) but why in the world are you even defending yourself in this? Wanna know why it is illegal for people like me to drive (unless I go seizure free for six months)? It isn't because I could hurt myself, its because I could hurt others. Car accidents are serious ****ing business and for whatever reason you are fine with increasing the chances of hurting people or even killing them. That sickens me.

I really really hope that these threads are just for attention and you actually do care about the safety of others let alone yourself.

Not at all. And I do know my limits.

Yeah, of course I care. I've had my mom take over for me before when we were driving to Wenatchee, about an hour and a half away from here, even after I got sufficient sleep because just driving and focusing on the road for that long made my eyes tired.

I don't think I ever mentioned this in the thread, but in today's case and the other day's case, the problem wasn't the lack of sleep, it's that my mom woke me up right when we had to leave. Usually, if I'm not up before then, she wakes me up 30 minutes prior, which is plenty of time for me to wake up completely.

In today's case, I got about four hours of sleep, which is as low as I can go without feeling tired throughout the day. It's just that my mom woke me up right when we had to go. And even when I do get sufficient sleep, it'd still be a problem if she woke me up right when we had to leave.

Also, my mom is always harping on me about my driving, whether it's because of the lack of sleep or because of the bad habit I sometimes have of following too close, so if she thought today or any other time in the same situation would have been a problem, she would have taken herself to work and then let me have the car when she came home for lunch.
