Eh, I don't even know anyone who used the site.
Not that big of a deal to me.

Limewire is extremely popular, I'm really surprised you haven't heard of it.

It's been awful for a while now, I used to use it and there's such a huge amount of porn and/or viruses that I just got sick of it. There are a ton of other programs identical to Limewire, so not a huge deal. xD

Oh no, don't get me wrong. I've heard of it. I've just never seen the need to use it. I use other sources for my downloads.

About time, I say. The US Court was seriously needed for this? Its an obvious illegal music/movie provider. This thing should of been shut down YEARS ago.

ehh millions of other sites that you can do this from they will never truly stop this even so never used it myself so less places for viruses to appear so good i suppose.

Yeah, but if I'm correct, limewire wasn't made for music or movies, that's just what it became used for. Pipes were made for tobacco and for the most part sold as "tobacco paraphenelia" but the majority of them are used for pot. Can't make pipes and hookahs illegal because of that.
anyway, I used limewire for years on a crappy computer with only spybot and never got a single virus. But I stopped using it a year and a half ago since my campus monitors that. I have other illegal means of getting music.

But either way, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

I know people who used it and i've told them that it's illegal. They never listened to me. Thing is that I heard that FrostWire is supposed to be it's replacement r something to that effect. Has it been shut down as well or is it just LimeWire?

FrostWire was supposedly some sort of extension of LimeWire...basically the same thing just a different skin. At least, that's what I remember. It should be shut down as well.

I rarely used LimeWire myself since people constantly mislabeled songs...then again, if they didn't do that I wouldn't have found some great bands. Ah well, there's other methods to use besides LimeWire so this doesn't really solve the problem of illegal downloading. It just takes out one of several hundred sources anyone can use.

Like everyone else is saying this is a pretty minor victory and if ask me pretty irrelevant. Not to say that I get any thing illegally, but hypothetically speaking I'm much more likely to get stuff illegally now simply because the record companies are being jerks about this. And I've seen studies showing that in areas that have looser copyright laws sales generally go up. They are really shooting themselves in the foot if you ask me.

Unfortunate. That's where atleast half my digital music collection came from, mostly obscure music that either wasn't sold locally for me or didn't cost £20 for a CD just to get one song of this 'ultra rare collection'. I also discovered my favourite band on there, and even went on to buy their CDs. To me. it seemed like a great way to get publicity for a variety of artists and like others have said a minor win against illegality of music download.
I have to admit the amount of porn on there was crazy. The virsuses probably destoryed my last computer, but when I upgraded my anti-virus software, it was all good in the end.
Now i'm gonna have to find a new source of music. Not that much trouble but a waste of time really.

I used Limewire once on a friends recommendation to find some comics. The comics were poor to read and had three massive viruses attatched to them. I haven't touched Limewire since.

I'm not surprised to see them shutting down Limewire, I'm surprised they haven't shut down the other sites that do this stuff. lol... Oh well, I have a good reliable source that mostly doesn't affect my computer secure, so it doesn't bother me.

...Meh, I'm not that suprised tbh. I only ever used it once to download a song that I couldn't find anywhere else - it had a virus. It should have been shut down after it become total rubbish.

    It was poor....IMO.

I'm glad they've don this. I had Limewire once and it gave my a lot of viruses. It was convenient but ridiculous. I'm surprised it wasn't shut down earlier to be honest since so many people use it to get free music from.

Although, people are just going to find a new way of getting free music and I know that music isn't the only thing on it but that's what I'm focusing on. If it wasn't stopped then it could of gotten very out of hand so I'm glad they've stopped it.

About time. I know lots of people who use it. I have tried to tell them it was illegal, but they said it was fine because lots of other people were doing it. Well, I wonder if it's shut down in Canada too...

EDIT: Yep, it's shut down here too!

i used linewire once & i didn't like it at all. it was dumb. so i'm glad that it was shut down. i think that's one of the smartest things the US cort did in relation to music/movies & file sharing...

also, jango is kinda better. even though you don't download anything from there, it's like a radio where you put what you want to listen to on there & it's like you have the cd because it plays the album version. jango is way cool compared to limewire. but itunes is kinda better because you can get the music you want & not other stuff like on jango were they would play crappy music that they thought you would like...

Knew this was going to happen sooner or later, I have had limewire before but never really used it. (hehe being a tech geek like me you wouldn't need it xD) Anyway besides the point I'm glad it was it's really a shame that someone could download a free full version of software programs along with many other things, but everytime you'd dowload something... a virus about 90% of the time came with it.

    Thisthisthis!

Compared to a lot of other ways to download music, videos, etc., Limewire is pretty pitiful and should never be used in my opinion. Shutting it down isn't really going to do anything to digital piracy either since there are a lot of other ways to be a pirate...ARGH! In the end, I guess this will be good for people. At least they won't be getting a load of viruses from it anymore xD
