Have you noticed that when you go through the Members list, theres at least five or six pages of users with the word "dark" in their name? And then you go on myspace and everyone's a "dark/emoish/i-hate-life-so-i'm-going-to-kill-myself/suicidal" person who's taking pictures of themselves where you can only see one eye? Now, I don't have a problem with this, but it's getting a little out of hand.

    Now, to the intellegent bit;
    Interrogation of the word; Dark.

    1. Dark is used by people today to mean, evil, hate, death :guns:, shadowy, no light, blah blah blah, you get the picture.

    2. Dark actually means; without light.

3.Then you've got KINGDOM HEARTS spurring on the emo trend with the "When you're in darkness... there will always be a light...."

Just tell me, how many people who call themselves, "emo" are actually suffering?

What makes them different to me?

    The answer; NOTHING.

    I rest my case

Dark I don't think equates with emos. Emos just make themselves suffer and complain about everything even if it isn't that bad. They are negative to life but won't do anything to make it better and those who try to help them often find themselves frustrated or filled with anxiety until the person gets out of it or they give up.

To me, Darkness is an absence of light, or the color of dark, or black implies dreaming, nothingness or void. It can also mean destruction in the pattern of how life works, or night time, which has its own energy too.

In KH, one meaning of Darkness seems to be the state of Darkness itself which is void, nothingness and a devouring of light and a Destruction element on a higher fundamental existence of all beings. It seems rather necessary that there is a pattern of creation and destruction and even some of the characters acknowledge that Darkness in itself is not a bad thing, but as Riku said, some people will use this fundamental function to their own methods and that is what is bad. The second is the darkness a person feels inside or the state of how the emotions are in a person. It seems that the more a person is connected with this destruction element, they too become more destructive and bend more to using emotions that are destructive in nature such as rage, frustration, etc and they become confused. Riku, to me, would never have been so 'bad' had he been not connected to it and had the time to rationalize things without it twisting and corrupting him. It also makes sense to me why he feared Darkness later since it messed with him so badly, but once he figured out and accepted it was part of him and he could decide how he wanted to be, he adapted.

The second meaning of Darkness in KH seemed to be that everyone may have darkness in them. Well, sure. We can all become destructive, want to hurt others, be self-destructive, etc. Also, it could be pointed out that minor flaws could make someone do a 'dark' deed whether they were good people regularly or not. Even Sora had his own contesting with Darkness to do and Kairi seemed to be the only one that they are declaring as pure of Heart, though I may debate that with some minor issues she had.

In many movies, books etc, the term 'dark' usually does seem to reflect that it is a reference to being destructive, and 'light' seems to bend more to creative properties of a person and healing. This is also found in pagan beliefs of auras and also chi/ki/qui for eastern cultures, and in voodoo with black magick and white magick, and well, other cultural thoughts.

If you think on it, this possibly stems from when a person is in the light they normally tend to feel more positive and the light is radiant. Also, life is given by light and plants feed off the sun's energy to grow. In dark, night, some people get scared and predators in the wild come out to hunt more. Both day and night are necessary to support life, but night can be a bit more intimidating to most people.

Emos can say they are in darkness or whatever, but really to me it just seems a state of stagnation and depression where they suffer and can bring others down and it's a call for attention. It's more like a gray than a black or white issue since nothing has to be motivating it and it is a state of being that is neither really creative or destructive; just there. Others who feel they are 'darker' in nature may be so. They may feel more attracted to the night time, to darker aspects of our human natures etc. It doesn't really imply they are bad people though, or that they are out for people to feel bad for them, or are out to harm others. The 'non-glamorized' goth if someone chooses to identify themselves to the term, which is not the goths that people nowadays seem to be which are more ruining and making the term a fad, are like that. I'm sure there are better examples but my mind eludes me at the moment.

Because it's appealing. Darkness means power, and the power to control a good many things.

Dark is a "IMAGINARY place where the weak people hide.
If you put it in the christian's point of view (like me for example)
Dark means the devil's powers and such.

    That is my opinion.

Most people use the word Dark, but they don't know the deeper meaning. Even us now, don't know the deeper meaning. Only those who know true darkness, and have lived in it all their lives will truly understand it. Demons are one such example. THEY know darkness. Until mankind can become the entity of darkness, or meet a demon ourselves, we shall only bumble around with speculatuion as to what the true meaning of "Dark" is.

    I agree.
The dark people talk about is the sterotyped dark with the 'emo' twist to it. But, the only people who know and TRULY live in darkness are demons. And, light is also sterotyped as well.
Most things like this get sterotyped. I think if people knew the true meaning of darkness, they wouldn't be doing this, at all.
