My post was just as rude.

Honestly @Mike, I am not jealous of Britney Spears. I have no desire to be famous or rich. All I want in my life is to live comfortably and be surrounded with people I love. The price of fame is not being able to go to star bucks without having your picture taken. Not for me...nope. And singing is actually one of my strengths. Everyone gets down on One Directionfor having no talent, but at least they're not self-destructive. When is our society going to start idolizing people who are actually smart and talented, and not just "hot" or exploit themselves just to make the cover of a stupid ****ing magazine?

So you feel that One Direction are famous because they're smart and talented and not just because they're good looking?

I have nothing against One Direction btw. I actually listen to their music from time to time (baby you light up my world like nobody else)

NO not at all I don't think they're talented per say. I agree with you. I was just saying that they haven't done anything self-destructive. I never said they were smart either, but I'm not going to say they're not smart...I don't know them personally, but at least they don't broadcast terrible decisions for the world to see.

Is this thread still about celebrities that are jokes of society and basically serve as examples of who you should never strive to be? Or have we gone zany yet?

It's true that they haven't done anything wrong during their time in fame but on the opposite side what good have they done?

Nothing wrong with trying to be famous, it's what you do while your famous which decides how people look at you.

and yeh this thread is boring me now... how about we talk about Xfactor ;)

When did I say being famous is a bad thing? Stephen Fry is famous and possibly the greatest human currently alive. Fame holds power, and those too irresponsible to handle it should not possess it.

    Xfactor is garbage.

X-Factor was brought up, so I shall now post what Iron Maiden's frontman thinks of the show.

Britney has talent. It's not like she hasn't. Self destructive? Who cares. She didn't hurt anyone else. She went through a dark time and being famous, you have no time for yourself. The camera was always in her face. Before you throw how she was self destructive, why don't you read some of the reports on how her manager was taking advantage of her and controlling her etc. The point I'm making is - you or I don't really know what happened. The problem is the world is judge mental and clearly that is shown in your response.

PS. I don't think shaving your head is destructive. It grows back. It's just an excuse people like to make.

Leave it to me to support the middle road, but I think both of you do bring up good points. Britney is talented, and she did go through a rough patch, which was made even more prickly by her being in the public eye so much. However, people who do go through dark times like that sometimes do go through a self destructive phase. Obviously Britney wasn't on the extreme end of this -- her act was more passive in itself.

I've known a few people (one of my friends had a few months ago in fact) that have chopped off their hair because they were feeling depressed and such. Might just be me, but I always considered doing anything to yourself due to a bit of depression or what have you, whether it's just cutting your hair or doing drugs and what not, self destructive -- it's a drastic change to you to try and make you feel better in the spur of the moment.

Mike's right in that we don't really know what happened then, but Haley's also right in the self destructive tendencies she showed. Pretty much, point is we don't really know with celebrities. Stardom's become so warped in everyone's perceptions we're stuck to seeing these people with what we're presented.

We don't truly know them, we only have someone's word for who they are (and their own word, though can't really take that as too much truth because constant cameras and paparazzi and such).

tl;dr: you're both right stardom ****ing cray

Thank you Plums. And I agree with what you said as well. Back to the head shave. You expressed the same with your friend? It's apparently a way out. Way better than hurting yourself. I remember she said that she was "shedding herself". It was a way to "free" herself. The stress became overwhelming, she reacted and shaved her head. It was a way of coping, but at any rate she didn't harm herself or anyone else...which at the end of the day is important. Does that make her crazy? No. Was there something wrong? yes! It bothers me how people like to stick there nose in other people's lives and says this person is bad and this person sucks or I hate them because of this and this. People who are jocks can say they hate geeks and cheerleaders can say they hate another group and somebody may hate someone else because of the different music they like. Another person can be hated in elementary school for liking a celeb, such as me. The point I'm making is that I don't like when people judge others or say they "hate" them. It's like...where's your evidence? Did they really do something wrong. People would say "I hate Britney because she shaved her head". Really? Or how some people would say she's a bad mom...and they knew this how? So apparently people think they know her. It's just the world judging on every little thing. It's quite immature and disrespectful. It's like if someone shaves their head once during a bad time where they struggle, they are concerned a bad person or crazy. Give me a break...really.

    Very nicely said.

It's sort of the same with Justin Bieber. The only difference is that he hasn't gone through a dark time, but a lot of people seem to hate him.

In some of his early songs, people went as far as to say he sounded like a girl. Well, maybe he did, but who cares? Looking back at some of my early YouTube videos, since I joined in 2006 and was 14 at the time, my voice sounded higher than now. I believe Justin's first official song was around age 16 for him, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, everyone's voice deepens at different ages during puberty, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Kim Kardashian has no talent, she's far worse than Brittney spears.
