A 2008 Swedish film that gets full marks from me. I highly recommend watching it blind (knowing nothing) because that is how I watched it, but if you cannot trust it based purely on my recommendation, then click the spoiler tag below. Though it would be easier to just watch it.

The film is a romantic horror story based on the book of the same name. In it, a boy named Oskar falls in love with someone who moves into his building. A lot of peculiar events and murders happen around them, and he struggles with the choice of whether or to embrace his feelings and accept the help of his love or reject them for the sake of keeping his morality.

It is a vampire film. The best in its genre according to me.

Watch it in Swedish with subtitles.

Have you seen it? Will you see it? We need more fans of this gem.

I give it ten out of ten and would consider it an extremely valuable addition to my collection. It should not be missed.

I' ve seen the American remake, I didn' t know it was an adaptation. It was fine, but nothing special.
I' ve read that the original is vastly superior (I know, what a surprise), but I don' t feel like watching it right now.
Have you seen both ? Is the remake an inferior version of the exact same story, or was the plot changed ?

I have not seen the remake and do not plan to see it. Look at the ratings to get an idea of the difference.

Let the Right One In (Original):

    Reviewer rating: 98%
    Audiance rating: 90%

    Let Me In (American Remake):

    Reviewer rating: 89%
    Audiance rating: 74%

    Moral of the story:

    Do not watch the remake.

I believe that should answer your question.

From what I have heard, the story changed a bit, but the directing and casting made the biggest difference. Differences in mood change everything regardless of medium.

I did like the movie very much, although in all honesty I prefered the book.
But it was a very nice change from all the other "vampire" films and novels, which basically follow the same pattern etc etc.
As has been said, the original is oh so much better than the remake.
And to really get a sense of it,as Makaze dear has already said,be sure to actually watch it in Swedish, with subtitles.
    Love it though.

I have seen both film versions and I can not choose between the two. Both share the same tone and moody feeling throughout, and the remake has a new surprise if you don't know why "the father" is with the "girl" (it's a different reason of why he is with her in the book).

Here are some quotes from me talking about this movie from another thread:
