Compared to the teaser trailer, it seems Hathaway's voice was ADR'd over, which sounds more clearer but takes away from the rawness of the moment she captured previously.

BUT, that's really all the criticism I have to give. Because, the cinematography seriously looks amazing. Definitely got goosebumps going and can't wait to see and hear more.

    Thoughts, opinions?

    I AM GOING TO SEE THIS MOVIE AS SOON AS I POSSIBLY CAN ASDFGHJKL;

I've never seen the musical, but I downloaded the soundtrack from my brother's laptop in December 2010 and fell in love. And besides, how often do you get a musical where the actors SING ON FILM? It adds SO much more authenticity and emotion to the acting.

As soon as this movie makes it over to the Middle Kingdom, you bet I'm going to go see this. I got mad goosebumps listening to that. Of course, with my luck we probably won't get to see it until next spring.

Hopefully I'm not necro-bumping per se...

BUT HOLY CRAP DAT NEW TRAILER.

I can tell that they will change a few plot points here and there, but I don't think the order should be changed that much, nor really hinder the progression of the story.

The only bad thing about this is that they didn't even credit Samantha Barks on Eponine. :| But other than that, wow.

I watched one of the concert recordings and fell in love with it. And it seems that a lot of hard work is being put into making everything authentic. They're not trying to make it pretty; they want to tell a good story, which means making it as realistic as they can.

Oh, and some new clips came out recently. This one's make favorite.

I partially agree with you on this; singing live does make it easier for the actor to act, thus having them give good performances, but it can be tiring on ones voice if they have to end up having multiple takes. And with playback, they still do sing on set. And while they do make their acting decisions in the booth, it gives them more of a acting challenge when they do the real thing, which is always good. Playback, or live, each of them has their pros and cons in filmmaking. Les Miserables does seem like one of those musical movies that would seem to do better with living singing. It is, of course, a sung-through musical.

I don't think Sweeney Todd would have done any better if they did live singing. And look at Chicago. It won Best Film when it came out and got Richard Gere an Oscar for Best Actor, and that was all pre recorded.

I need to see this movie. My friends showed me a few of the anniversary editions of this play/musical (i still don't know what this is exactly), and I love it. I need to watch this.

It's a sung through musical (meaning that there is little to no spoken dialogue, everything is in song) based off the MASSIVE novel by Victor Hugo. I have an unabridged edition and it's so thick, I could probably kill someone if I hit them in the right place.

From little bits in the trailers, it looks like there will be tiny bits of regular dialogue, which is a good idea, in movie making terms at least. It'll help pace the story and maybe add scenes that'll help fill some plot holes.

Going to go see this probably when it comes out on christmas. I love this play because it was the very first broadway play that I saw that was done here at our local theater. I can't remember which group it was, but they were amazing and I fell in love with it. Can't wait to see it in theaters, it looks amazing so far.

Okay, I'm stealing this from Tumblr, but just imagine: how hilarious/sad would it be to be at the theatre listening to all the people who don't know how to pronounce the name trying to buy tickets? "Hi, can I get tickets to the 4:15 showing of LAYS MIZERABLES?"

I was watching the final installment of the Twilight series with my friend when I saw the trailer to this movie.
    O.MY.SWEET.GODDESS!
I died a little inside. My heart stopped. I GOT GOOSEBUMPS listening to Hathaway sing~
During competitions, I use to performe songs from Le Mis, "On My Own" being my favorite. Also being a theater student that loves the opera and musicals, I couldn't help but squeal and say "Oh heck yes I am watching that!"
So when I saw the older version of Le Mis and noticed NO MUSIC NO SINGING I was very upset... And no one likes a NoNo when she is mad.
I just hope I am not getting pumped up for no reason, that is my fear! I have seen the musical about a thousand times...through Youtube sadly.
But there might be some hope! Hugh Jackman is in it and he is just mmmm~ no words can describe my attraction.
    hahah~
    Anyways I am SUPER EXCITED!!

Well, the musical has only been around for a little bit over 25 years while the novel has been around since the 1800's. there've been multiple adaptations of the novel, many long before the musical was even thought of, wanting to tell the story in their own way. Heck, there's even an anime adaptation. And from what I hear from cast and crew interviews, a lot of the movie's influences are coming straight from the book, not just the musical. They're even adding a new song into the movie, one they say was stemmed from something in the book that is not really seen in the musical.

Well, I found out that they started pre-orders for the movie soundtrack on iTunes, although it's only a "highlights" soundtrack that's up at the moment for $16. Looking at the song listings, some of the order choices get me interested (for example, looking down the list, you'll notice that before One Day More is On My Own, which is drastically different from the original). I like to see how they pull it off.

The soundtrack should be available to purchase on Dec. 21.

Apparently, the movie has also been nominated for 4 Golden Globes, including Best Actor for Hugh Jackman. : D

I admit, it's kinda unfair for the movie to be nominated even before most of the world has seen it, but it's also a good sign that the movie will not disappoint.

Regarding the soundtrack, I really wish there was at least two or three more songs listed, because to tell the truth, this list seems a little short. :c Alas, it is a highlights soundtrack.

    Can't wait till Christmas Day.~

Lol. They' ll probably just say "Lay Miz". I purposefully pronounce English movie titles with an excessive French accent when I buy tickets, I know people won' t understand me otherwise. Hell, I remember that one time I asked a ticket for Return of the King.
    Hostess : Huh ? A ticket for what ?
    Me : ...
For the Lord of the Ring.

The Best nine dollars I have spent on a movie in a long time (No that's a lie, the Hobbit was amazing too~)
But this movie. God. I cried.... That's all I got to say.

I went to see this movie last night, and I actually liked it, to my own surprise. It was somewhat hard to follow for me, since, and I'm not kidding here, 99.8% of the movie was singing. Only a few moments you actually here a sentence that is just "said" instead of sung, but those sentences are so nice to hear after all of the singing. The songs were really good, if not somewhat obnoxious at points, and definitely get stuck in your head easily.

Yeah, the original musical was like that, being sung-through and all. I'm just glad they didn't belt out and go super-operatic at some parts in the likeness of the stage production.

    Overall, the movie was a different take for me in terms of the structure of the musical (i.e., putting the songs in different order), but it was a good kind of different. It flowed nicely and I think the pace was decent enough to grab your attention throughout each of the solo songs. I loved, loved how they sang live though. I somewhat have a problem with lip-syncing in movies, especially in musical movies, but singing live adds a certain level of genuineness to the whole thing. Being the sap that I am, my favorite parts were "I Dreamed a Dream" and "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables." Cried rivers during those moments. ;-;

If I had to nitpick on some things about the movie, it was probably Russel Crowe's singing. Some parts it was spectacular, but his rendition of "Stars" and even during the "Confrontation" seemed like he was trying too hard or something. Also Eponine's role was cut a bit too short for me, but that's probably because she's my favorite character.

But then again, if you have seen the musical production on stage, you kind of have to have a beginner's mind when you walk into this movie. For the amount of changes in order and direction that this movie takes, it's going to be separate from what you'd expect from the musical. And I'm glad that they did it this way from a cinematic standpoint as opposed to a musical theatre standpoint.

But overall, mostly fulfilled my expectations and even had some surprise favorites for the casting, such as the boy who played Gavroche. Just so adorably cunning <3
