Shyra's Group:
Kara said 'I wonder how many of us are survivors?' She has been surviving for a long time. She said nothing on this though. For the most part she ignored Kara. There did not seem a reason to say anything. Tessa asked to be a bear. That was a interesting animal. Soon Laurentinus, Conrad, Kara and Tessa left there ride. She guessed that she should too. There was something outside the carriage. With that she stepped out without saying anything. The was something about a spider.

Iris was, of course, taken a bit aback by his response. The man clearly seemed to be seasoned in the way of killing others, and he was quite educational when it came to learning the color and smell of blood, or at least human blood. Of course, there were a myriad of reasons that someone could be this used to killing people, some excusable others not so much. But Iris wasn't exactly sure if it was within his culture's social etiquette to share why they had done so, so she was a bit at a loss for words while trying to think. Then he commented on how nice the sun was, to which she could only nod in joyous agreement. "The sun is absolutely wonderful. Such a majestic light giving orb in the sky, it's what makes adventures like this at all possible. Surely without such a gift from the gods we wouldn't be able to casually walk about admiring it's splendor, much less think about hunting fearsome drakes and enjoying a meal of their meat afterwards!" Her face had been one that was beaming with enthusiasm all the while she spoke about it. As she said all of this, she soon realized were she to understand this man's odd culture better, it'd probably be a good idea to know where he was from to begin with. "So Bryce, what city do you come from?"

 

Conrad had taken up his position next to Shyra looking around left to right, there was nothing there. He did have the feeling they were being watched though, looking through the woods searching for wherever their opponents were. The others were piling out of the carriage as well. He was still looking around wary of any danger. He heard Tessa say something about teaming up after she had scolded Kara for wanting to touch one of the lines. "Sounds like a good plan, back to back, no way they can surprise us. " He said, finishing Tessa's sentence "Stand united and they'll have a hard time taking us down." Kara had happily danced over to him, but she challenged Tessa and Laurentinus. "Kara, not now. You are dividing us when we need to stand together." He turned around and that's when he saw them(Because Mr von Eisenstein III passed his perception roll.) they were on top of the carriage. "There they are, everyone form up, circle formation. Laurentinus, you and me up front. We're more heavily armoured. Whoever can take a hint stand with us, everyone who can attack from distance behind us." Conrad spoke, his voice lacked the commanding tone of an officer and he knew he wasn't in charge. Let's just hope these folks had common sense.

Shyra Bracklewood
"That's the oldest trick in the book, how did I miss them?" Shyra exclaimed as she stepped away from the carriage and drew her staff "I don't think these guys are going down without a fight!"

My arachnid servants. Kill the interlopers
The spiders heard a voice, loud and clear, echoing through their minds. They had no choice but to obey. The Spider at the back shot a sticky ball of web straight at Shyra, then skittered in closer on thin legs.
"Gah!" Shyra exclaimed as the web hit her and stuck her to the ground "Kill them!"
The second spider came at Conrad and slashed with its sharp legs, before retreating again.
The third spider crawled menacingly around the group, closing them in. It suddenly lunged at Kara, mandibles dripping with poison

Spider 1 used Web Shot on Shyra, then moved down 1 (total 9 AP used)
Spider 2 moved down 1, attacked Conrad with Slash, then went up 1. (total 8 AP used)
Spider 3 moved down-right by 2, down 2, then used Poison Mandibles on Kara (total 9 AP used)

Shyra failed to dodge, she is snared and disrupted by 2 for the next turn
Conrad successfully parried the attack.
Kara failed to dodge. The spider dealt 10 damage and successfully poisoned Kara. Wow you have really bad luck.

Kara was fully prepared to throw out a witty line when the spiders had finally been seen. She was opening her mouth, in fact, when Shyra started exclaiming. Well, okay, let the woman have her moment, she was their leader after all. Or...maybe troop leader was a better description. Like the band of little girls that went door to door, selling their cookies in order to use the money for all manner of dogoodery. It was unfortunate that at this moment, Kara decided to imagine everyone, including Conrad and Ren, in the little dresses the girls wore. This distracted her enough that when the spiders attack, she was far from ready.

A gasp passed her lips as the spider's mandibles bit down on her leg. She managed to shake it off, but by the hellish burning that stemmed from the wound, she was in big trouble.

Kara's mind immediately went blank, her eyes narrowed, and her hands went to the hilts of her seraph blades. She drew them in a criss cross fashion, hissing with anger and pain as the burning began to crawl up her leg.

"Suck on this." She growled, slashing at the spider who had attacked her before following it up with an Arcane Bolt, because she was pisssed. And might die, given that she wasn't sure anyone was carrying antivenom on their person.

Tessa stepped back from the spiders, her heart in her mouth as Conrad was attacked. The amount of relief that she felt was both wonderful and a little bit alarming when he parried the attack. But her alarm turned to a tangled mixture of fear and horror as Kara didn't manage to do the same. Tessa had seen the poison, and she knew that Kara wouldn't have much time.

"Kara!" She called out, kneeling to the ground and pressing her palms against the earth. "Help me." She whispered, casting Vitality Tulip. Despite the strangeness of the girl, dying by poison was a slow one, and awful to watch. At the very least, she could keep her alive until they found an antidote. Hopefully.

Wow, this girl was really into the sun. Bryce nodded along with her in an enthusiastic manner, happy that he had managed to strike up a conversation with someone who wasn't a murderer or insane lunatic, or who didn't exist. Well, happy until she asked him where he was from.

"Oh. uh. I was stationed at a garrison for a while. Fighting. Being a soldier. Using this.' He hefted his weapon (which had been strangely omitted from the Character Sheet), in response to Iris. "Being a man kind of takes it out of you, after a while, you know? Well, I mean, you wouldn't know, because you're beautiful and a girl, but it must be hard to do that too, right?" He was stumbling again. Couldn't the monsters just come and give him something to murder?

Shyra was surprised that the spiders were on top of the carriage saying it was the oldest trick in the book and that they weren't gonna go down without a fight. What a surprise, despite their numerical advantage which would normally be a factor in scaring beasts away. The beasts reacted first, one of them getting Shyra caught in webbing, the next going for Kara, biting her with it's fangs he feared for the worst but silently prayed that he was wrong. Now wasn't the time to panic, others would take care of it, right now he was in the vanguard and their enemies were upon them and they needed to be disposed off first, despite the annoyance the girl had brought him she didn't have to die and poisoning was a bad way to go, though maybe just maybe she had been lucky. He hoped she'd be able to hang on until the spiders were disposed of and they could safely tend to her. He had heard Tessa called out to Kara, but he didn't dare look behind him, he had to trust that those behind him would watch his back and help on that issue. The last spider was upon him trying to slash at him, but he managed to parry the blow of the creature and it moved back as almost daring him to come attack it. And he did, he moved forward, holding onto his greatsword with a single hand, resting it's blade on his shoulder using his free hand to punch the creature. 'That one's for Shyra.' He thought as he then held the blade in front of him again in a defensive stance waiting for the creature to act.

Alice's pov:


She could sense the spiders Shyra and Kara got attacked, of course it had to be the people that were not all that nice to her. She felt unmoving so like a rock. She did not think she had any skills that would help here. That was when she was able to feel the earth around her move. It was almost like she had control over it. She really did not know what to do with this power. She felt stuck. She felt like her skills did not compare to the other people her. That might be why they paid any attention to her and why should they. She felt the earth move more she was angry at Kara for what she said about her being a mouse. She watched a rock like skin move around Kara. She then felt guilty and wanted to heal Kara and so she started on that.

Shyra Bracklewood
Shyra, with a disgusted expression, pulled herself out of the webs "Let me show you how it's done" stepping backwards she summoned a ball of fire in her hands, raised her hands into the air, and lobbed the fireball at the spider who had webbed her

Shyra used Kindle on Giant Spider 1, and moved back by 1 space.
Giant Spider 1 failed to dodge.
Shyra dealt 42 damage to Giant Spider 1. Giant Spider 1 was set on fire

Oh geez, you actually hurt that chick a bit. Okay when I said "Kill" I didn't necessarily mean "Kill" just, like, make them run away. I should have clarified sorry
The Spiders followed their master's orders and continued to scuttle after the adventurers, despite their injuries, and the fact that one of them was on fire.

Giant Spider 1 crawled 1 space down, attacked Conrad, then bit him
Conrad failed to parry the first attack
It dealt 16 damage, but with armour this was reduced to 13
Conrad failed to parry the second attack
It dealt 18 damage, but with armour this was reduced to 15
Giant Spider 1 took 2 damage from burning

Giant Spider 2 attacked Conrad twice

Giant Spider 3 attacked Laurentinus, then bit him
Ren blocked the first attack
Ren failed to dodge the second attack
Giant Spider 3 dealt 11 damage to Ren. With armour this was reduced to 8

Kara yelled with triumph, the yell turning into a yelp as the poison burned into her leg. Something Doe Eyes had done was making her feel better though, the flower that seemed to radiate with a glow. A healthy glow. She struck again with her swords at Giant Spider #3, followed up with an Arcane Bolt to really make it hurt, happy now that she felt she had gotten some of her vengeance. Laurentius had joined her side in the battle, surprisingly. She didn't know that Hawk felt that way. Or at least, a way about her. She thought about commenting on this, but decided to keep the good will between them a little while longer.

It was then that Conrad took a beast of an attack from the spiders. Kara hesitated, unsure. She wasn't the type who should go running into danger, and rather skirt it from behind. But she couldn't do that, could she?

"Conrad!" Tessa called out next. Her concern for Kara was alleviated, momentarily. The girl seemed to be surviving, attacking the spider with vengeance in her eyes. But Conrad had been left undefended, and had paid the price. Tessa stood, the wind tugging on her hair as she cast Stoneskin on Conrad, giving him a little extra armor until he could back up to the radius of her flower. Hopefully her cry would alert others to his peril.

Conrad had made a mistake in trusting these people, it had been a mistake, he was used to fighting alongside soldiers they would move up with him to hold them until those behind them had moved up for the main push. The others had all been so caught up in Kara's being wounded he had been left up front without support. The two spiders moved upon him he tried to parry the attacks the first spider's attacks slipped through his defences, and it hurt, badly the creature had bit him, but he was glad he hadn't been poisoned. Then the second spider was upon him but he managed to parry the attacks of this creature with his blade. He had been very lucky and while he wanted to curse his team mates, it wouldn't be of much use. He could hear Tessa call out his name. Shyra had done a number on one of the spiders and while he could probably take it, he didn't want to get himself killed, maybe the others had caught on now that there were more threats simultaneously and they couldn't just keep a tunnel vision on one of them while ignoring the others. Seeing he was the one seperated he figured it was best for him to fall back and regroup and was glad that he hadn't been cut off from them. He felt magic take hold of him as he fell back towards the others and took up a defensive position.

Alice's pov:



She could not longer feel the earth around her move. The feeling was gone just like it came. She was not sure if she moved it or it was an accident. She could never do anything she wanted to do when it came to magic. When it came to water it was easier then this rock moving, but it was still hard to do. She looked around and Kara seemed to be fine. The rock like skin was now around Kara. The rock skin was like an armor that would protect the girl. She did not need to do anything else for the girl. Kara was mean to her and she did not to help her anymore. It seemed that Kara made friends quite easy. This was odd considering her attitude to the others. Apparently being mean to others was how to get friends. She rather be friendless then to change and be mean like Kara. She looked around and Conrad was having a hard time. He seemed to be fighting two spiders at once which was not an all out good idea. She looked at Conrad please be ok, she thought. She was on her knees now hoping, when water surrounded Conrad in a healing energy. She looked at the spiders. She was not sure what to do about them. She was reminded of a story a type of song her mother used to sing to her when she was younger. The song had something to do with spiders. She was trying to think what ever her mother was telling her might be useful here. That was it. There was some spiders did not like water. She just had to hope that this spider did not like water. The spider in the song came back and she did not want that to happen. The only problem was she always had a hard time with water. Please work, she thought. She began to think of the feeling of before when she moved water her eyes shut hopping for the best. It did not work because she only had 3 ap left to use. She decided to move one space because why not.

The journey had taken some time and they weren't there quite yet. Kellan had pointed out that a boat down the river would have been quicker than the carriage that Aston was thinking of. They were sailing downstream now along the river that ran through Varewyn and the plan was to stop at a village near Eradan and catch a coach from there. That was going to spare them a lot of travel time. The hope now of course, was that nobody would be seasick.
"Hope all of you have your sea legs on otherwise this is going to be an unpleasant ride." Aston commented, looking at everyone with a wry smile. Perhaps if they weren't too busy, he could find out a little more about the people that they were travelling with. "While we've spare time, what brought you all here?"

For the carriage ride towards their destination and for the start of the fight against the giant spiders Lumen was asleep in the carriage. Nothing surprising, least for him anyway. He could fall asleep just about anywhere if he felt like it, least as long as there wasn't anything to interrupt him at least. That being said, sounds of battle going on outside the carriage counted as an interruption.

The sounds of battle succeeded in waking the sleeping Lumen, who drowsily walked out the door wondering where all the noise was coming from. Needless to say, he was surprised to see the giant spiders that were around them. Well Conrad anyway, the others seemed to have a solid one spider surrounded. He drew his long sword and stepped fully out the carriage. With the power of his arcane magic, he fired an attack towards one of the spiders attacking Conrad.

Giant Spider 2 dodged one of the blasts, the other three hit, dealing 26 damage

Shyra used Gale on Giant Spider 1, casting it for 3 ticks
Giant Spider 1 took 27 damage and was knocked out

Damnit, these guys are pretty good. Retreat! Retreat!
The voice commanded the spiders again. The last giant spider shrieked in dispair as his comrades were defeated. He had fond memories of eating flies with his friends, going on long skitters through the westwood and gazing at the sunset. #2 cried a single solitary tear for #3, then began to scurry away as fast as his eight legs would carry him.

Spider #3 is dead
Spider #1 is unconscious
Spider #2 is fleeing

Conrad had succesfully managed to link up with the group again. The spider that had bitten Kara now lay by her feet. Dead. The others had used magic to heal him, if only they had supported him in the first place. Spells had flown past him as he retreated another spider went down and the third seemed to be scurrying away. He had no ranged weaponry and could not chase his quarry. He had an idea as to what he was gonna do. Alice had healed him and Lumen had covered him and he gave them a thumbs up as a thanks. Laurentinus had bashed a spider to the ground, covering him and he gave the nod. He turned to Tessa who had cast the vitality tulip and gave her a smile as thanks. Then he looked at what he could do now and saw the downed spider and moved over grabbing the spider, lifting it off the ground over his head and throwing it towards the retreating spider.

Spider #2 silently cursed the commanding voice that had got it into this mess, as #1 was lobbed at him. He tried to scuttle away desperately...

Strength roll for Conrad... 19. Critical Success

...But his little legs were not quick enough, and the other giant spider landed on top of him with an audible crunch. All the spiders were now dead.

Kara stuck her seraph blade in the ground, looking down at the body of the spider with some satisfaction as she leaned on the weapon. "Well...that takes care of that." She cast a cursory glance over the rest of their party, just to make sure everyone was still standing. Mostly because if someone had to be carried, she wanted to escape that particular duty. "Damn." She commented at the sight of the spider, crushed by his comrade. "Strategical of you, Wolfie." Next came her own injury. She examined the healed skin with something close to admiration. Close. "Doe Eyes, I gotta say, you know your flowers. Might be a useful girl to keep around, even after this." She winked at the smaller girl, who had ignored her words and wandered over to the pile of spiders.

Kara shrugged, yanking her blade out of the ground and tossing her hair over her shoulder. "So what now?"

Tessa had winced when the spider had landed on its brethren, and now that it seemed the coast was clear, she called her flower back into the earth, retracting her powers with a flick of her wrist before wandering over to the pile of arachnid bodies. Kara was speaking to her, but her mind ignored the words. It was likely she wouldn't miss much, anyway. She knelt beside the bodies, biting her lip as she hesitantly touched one of the legs, stroking the delicate fibers along the joints. "I'm sorry." She whispered to both of them sadly. It was true, the spiders had attacked first, but had she been in their place, she would have wanted some empathy. "I hope you leave this world peacefully and that your souls find rest in the next life."

She would have said the words over the body next to Kara, but she had a feeling the girl would make a huge deal out of it, and well, Tessa didn't think that was necessary. Just because they had been enemies didn't mean the spiders didn't deserve a good death either. Part of her was a little upset that Conrad hadn't let the last one escape. She found no honor in killing fleeing enemies, unless she was starving and they were prey. She knew if it hadn't been him, someone else would have killed the creature, but it would have been easier to be mad at someone else, for some reason.
