Conrad swung his sword destroying the spider that stood close to them before it could attack anyone. The healing pollen from the flower helped him recover a little bit from his wounds. Rayyad moved forward and used his psear to attack the beast at the center of this, covering Conrad's flank at the same time, he trusted the Webbar Prince to hold his own. "Got it." Conrad said as Rayyad gestured towards the spider. They had held out long enough to counter attack, time to make it count. Conrad surged forward towards the great spider and swung his greatsword at the beast. Fully trusting his companions to protect him as he protected them, feeling the magical power from the stoneskin strengthening his resolve.

Sebastion told him to go find his own God "You see that's the problem when you put your faith in the Gods, they always arrive late, they're all sleeping, waiting and sleeping until we save ourselves from the encroaching night and expect us to give praise to them for that. The Gods have failed this town and you can't redeem their failure. The damage is already done." Ulrich told Sebastion, he didn't need faith in Gods, he'd trust in his own ability to keep himself safe and try to keep others safe as well. Then Sanderson decided to give them the choice, go with him or defend the town. "As I already pointed out, I am all for some good payback and honestly owe you nothing at all, except maybe a thanks for sitting by your fire, but if I stick around to defend this town then who will remain to go with you?" The man said, leaving the choice to the man with the sideburns.

Aedan took the opportunity to rest most gladly. The reason being the encounter with the Drake was far more stressful than he had initially thought. It was something far different to anything he had ever spoken. He could feel its hunger, unrelenting. He probably put on a brave show, but now that he was alone to think he realised how scared he really was. His thoughts turned to something else. He hadn't spoken, for fear of sparking an unnecessary conflict with the stone armed man. That too, was something he had never seen before. He was a hateful man, from what he saw of him. The other one was nicer, and seemed more calm. The stone armed man seemed to be very angry, and foolish. His words against the Gods were made presumably in ignorance and a lack of understanding. His training in his village taught him about the importance of the Gods and what they could do, and it was significantly more than he seemed to realise. However, it was not his place to educate him about that. He sincerely hoped that Ulrich, for that was his name, learned his error soon before the Gods abandoned him.

He fell asleep somewhere in that time of thought. Eventually, he awoke. They were making their choices of what they were going to move.

"The Drakes warned me about him, so I should go to deal with the Winter Man. Besides, I know the order of nature. I should be able to tell when it has been properly restored." Aedan explained. He placed both hands on his staff and looked at Ulrich. "Sebastian is already here, and Bryce is a brave fighter. Between those two they should be able to help. I think you're best suited to coming with us. I'm not a brilliant fighter."

Posting Fogwarden tomorrow, giving last person one day.

Having managed to navigate out of the passage and to some other part of cave, Lumen and Alice had managed to find Laurentius and Kara. The latter pouring liquid onto Laurentius. Odd, that was the second time someone had done that and though form what he could tell the liquid was just outright water, nor was she praying next to her. "Did he get injured again?" The answer was probably a clear one, but it didn't hurt to ask. Especially when you really couldn't do much to aid in any healing.

    Alice's pov:

    Alice banner.png

She continued walking and their way through the tunnels and arrive in the great abandoned underground city. Standing there was Kara and Laurentinus. There was some sort of cloth around Laurentinus arm. What happened now? She let out a sigh. She watched in horror as Kara dumped the green onto Laurentinus. What was the girl thinking? Just rub on concentrated poison onto the man while you are at it. Why oh why did the women just dump some unknown liquid onto Laurentinus without a second thought? Well it was to late now do anything about it or to find out what the green liquid was. For all Kara knew that bottle was poison extract. Now all that was left to do was to see if Laurentinus turned into some mutation of a spider or something. She stood there slightly without saying anything. Hopefully the strange liquid would help Laurentinus. She looked at Lumen and did not know what to say. She looked over to Laurentinus arm the wound is closing. Well that was probably a good thing. Well it was a good thing that Laurentinus was not a spider. She did not feel the need to say anything so said nothing. She wondered what happened to Laurentinus arm. She was sure there was story grand story behind it. So the two paths ended up going back together when they split. What had happened to the other path? She began to look around to see if she could find out any information. There seemed to be a strange house in the cave which was odd.

Sanderson scratched his chin thoughtfully "Bryce, come with me and Aedan old chap, I'm sure our two new friends can fight well enough on their own, and we may need a powerful fighter with us" He explained. It was time for them to part ways "I hope to see you all in one piece next time we meet, old sports!" he said, bidding farewell to Ulrich and Sebatien. Turning back to Aedan and Bryce he began to lead them to the Northwest quarter of the city, within which supposedly resided the Wizard Iceroth "Right, first order of business let's talk to this wizard the mayor mentioned, he will certainly know something of this 'Winter Man'" Sanderson reasoned. As they approached the quarter Sanderson stopped the group. A few metres into the ruined town there was a glowing purple line of runes across the path "A failsafe against the drakes no doubt, it should not harm us" he stated as they crossed the barrier. They were now in the middle of this section of the town. Nearby was an abandoned library and a church. "Where do you think we should go?"

    Guard Commander Chuck Telviron:
Suddenly, a man ran up towards Ulrich and Sebastien
"So you're here to help?" he asked "Good, we need fighting men. Would you mind accompanying me? The drakes have infested the town and they won't leave unless we're forceful about it"

Bryce nodded sleepily. Sanderson could have just told him he was going to be sacrificed to the Citrus God, and he would have agreed if it meant five more minutes of sleep. Unfortunately, it was not so, and felt himself hauling his body to his feet, stumbling after Sanderson with bleary eyes. "Library." He voted, resting his head on Aedan's shoulder. "Sorry, Citrus God, but I just need a little help."

Perhaps if he had been more devout, the
Citrus God would have given him energy to survive the day. Alas, Bryce had not paid his dues in fruits, and was lacking in the God's eyes, or so he thought. "How did you know the glowing stuff wouldn't hurt us?" He asked suddenly, his arm wrapping around Aedan's shoulders to give himself more support as he basically hugged Aedan from behind, resting his chin on the druid's shoulder. "Because I didn't know that. Did you know that?" he asked Aedan this time, turning his face slightly towards the druid's. "You smell nice." He observed, blinking.

Tessa watched Conrad move up, biting her lip. She was incredibly low on mana, and couldn't cast any spells besides simply making the grass grow. Which would not be helpful here. Torn between helping Rayyad defeat the Spirit Spider, and Conrad defeat the Spirit Weaver, Tessa looked between her two friends. The Spiritweaver is what calls the spiders here. If we defeat that....but Rayyad needs help! But he's been down here long before we stumbled into his life. He knows what to do. And he said to attack it.

Mouth pressed into a thin line, Tessa made her decision. Whipping her staff out to the side, she leaped over the body of the dead spider in front of her, darting forward towards the massive Spiritweaver. Fear filled her for a second as she whirled her staff through the air, trying to make the hit as powerful as she could before she brought the end down on the spider's head, smacking it with her staff.

Kara watched as Ren gritted his teeth, clearly in pain. She simply crossed her arms over her chest, fingers tapping against her arm nervously as she waited it out. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the wound seemed to begin to heal itself. Or at least, the poison seemed to be going away. It was at this time that two newcomers stepped towards them; Alice and a guy. Kara blinked, her mind trying to recall where she had seen his face before, but she wasn't having any luck.

    "Have we met?" She asked
Lumen, rolling her eyes at Alice's look of disdain before the girl went to explore. She hadn't had time to think about her decision, not when seconds could have cost Laurentinus his arm. "If we haven't, I'm Kara. That's Ren. And I'm assuming you know Alice's name, since you got stuck traveling with her. My condolences." She offered a weary smile towards Lumen.

"What do you think, smart *ss?" Laurentinus responded. He was just getting pissy with everything that was happening lately. Lumen asking the obvious wasn't helping his mood as his hand was still bleeding quite badly, though the pain from the poison wasn't as bad and almost gone. He didn't know if it was a good idea or not, but desperate for feeling in his hand again, Laurentinus reached up and untied the cloth that stopped the poison from circulating through his body earlier. Moving his hand around a bit it felt good, but it was not in great shape still. He watched blood hit the ground from his hand and winced. The wound didn't close fully and it wasn't going to close more by the looks of things. There was someone around that could help now, but he really didn't want water dumped on his head again or to actually have to ask for help for that matter. He never had been good at asking for help when he needed it, probably wasn't a good thing but something that he lived with.

Standing up the man faced the others. He still held his injured hand favouring it, but didn't say too much on the subject
. "We really should continue searching for Conrad and Tessa. After that spider flipped out, I am worried that they might be in more trouble." He stated as he looked around trying to guess what direction that they should be heading in. The previously friendly Shadowweaver had run off before he could give them that information. So now it was back to a wild goose chase to find them and not get too lost themselves.

"You are simply a bitter close minded man. You need to open your mind and your heart and you will see what I see. That being said it isn't my place to force it on you." Sebastian stated to Ulrich. It was becoming more and more clear that getting along with this man would prove a difficult task. Just to top things off he was instructed to work with said man to protect the city. Well as long as he could hold his own then he guessed it wasn't the end of the world. As long as he could still be doing the work of The Guardian than everything was fine.

There was one upside to all this, he didn't have to work with the man child right at this moment.
"Good luck men. I wish you all the best. May the Guardian bless you and keep you in his protection." Sebastian said as he bid Sanderson and co farewell. "Well then sir I guess that just leaves you and me to go help the town, shall we head off?" Sebastian asked Ulrich. However they didn't get a chance to leave before a man ran up to them asking for help. "Of course we are here to help my good man. Lead us to where the biggest problem is, we will take care of it for you. Don't you worry." Sebastian replied.

Aston ran into the combat with the others. He had to help them take these Thugs down so that they could get to the deadlier foes behind them. Aston

Aston moved up three hexes (3AP)
Aston used Arming Sword Strike (5AP)
Aston used Consecutive Shortsword Strike (3AP)

    PLAYERS TURN...

Anthea cast Snowflakes on the Burning Blade thug, but he raised his shield and the spell dissipated harmlessly against it! (Blocked)
    She entered a defensive stance!

Roric used an Unarmed Strike on one of the Burning Blade Thugs, landing a punch on the unsuspecting man's face!
    It dealt two damage!
Roric loosed off an arrow at the Burning Blade Pyromancer, but he spotted the Ranger drawing his power and stepped aside! (Dodged)

Baldomar used an Unarmed Strike on a Burning Blade Thug!
    It did 10 damage!

Kevin struck the Burning Blade Thug twice with his daggers, finding gaps within the armour and slicing at flesh with deadly precision!
It did 20 damage! Good damage!

    Arthur entered a defensive stance.

    Badun did nothing.

Aston used Arming Sword Strike on Burning Blade Thug while his guard was down from Baldomar's vicious attack, biting into his chest!
    It did 28 damage!
Aston used Consecutive Shortsword Strike, but the Thug saw the second attack coming and threw the shield in front of him to protect himself and the attack glanced off harmlessly! (Blocked)

    ENEMY TURN...

Rightmost Burning Blade Thug raises his mace and strikes at Aston, but he ducks under the blow, dodging it!

Leftmost Burning Blade Thug moves towards Roric and Baldomar. He sees the Barbarian helping Aston kill his team mate and swings for him! Baldomar catches the attack on his hammer and blocks it!

The final Burning Blade Thug comes around the side of his friend and bashes Aston with his shield to help his friend! Distracted by the first attack, the mission leader fails to see the Thug approaching and is struck by the shield and staggered!
Aston takes 3 damage, disrupted for -2 AP.

The Burning Blade Crossbowman spots Kevin as he retreats from the attack against his comrade and steps into range. He takes aim and fires! He was unable to get out of the way of the shot and Kevin is struck by the bolt, knocked unconscious.
    Kevin takes 33 damage and is KO'd. D;

The Burning Blade Pyromancer sees Anthea at the back and rushes forwards. He raises the staff and a ball of fire coalesces at the tip then blasts forwards towards her (Pyromancer casts Fireball). She failed to get out of the way, so the fireball hits her and knocks her unconscious.
It deals 25 damage! Anthea is KO'd. DDD; (She rolled a 100 for dodge which is impressive, and it was exactly enough damage. Sad times XD)

Having taken down two of their opponents and with two more cowering at the back, the mercenaries grow confident that they'll win this...

"Anthea, Kevin!" Aston called out, seeing two of his team being picked off. He gritted his teeth and gruntedas he felt a metal shield slam into his chest. He staggered back. "Come on! We have to push through!" There was a fiery glint in the blademaster's eyes. They need help, desperately. Damn you, just die!

"I agree. The library is a sound course." Aedan nodded emphatically. Mages obviously stayed in libraries, centres of knowledge and wisdom. If he was going to look for the wise wizard undoubtedly protecting the town, then the library would be where he'd look. Then, Bryce leaned on him and apologised for it. He still hadn't dropped the Citrus God thing, but he figured it was something he simply had to get used to. Rather than objecting, the Druid put his arm around Bryce's waist to offer some extra support. "Of course, you stayed up all night to watch over us. The least I can do is give you some help walking." He smiled kindly at Bryce. He nodded at the question.
"I know of them, yes. Some of the Druids in my village use them. Not me, it's never been my thing, but some of the older Druids certainly made use of Runes." Aedan answered. "Although, I couldn't tell you the first thing about what any of those say to be honest with you. Like I said, it's never been my speciality." And as always, there was the strange comment that totally threw him off. That seemed to be a Bryce thing. It came as part of the Bryce package. Whatever that was.
    "Err, thank you?"

Roric cursed under his breath as his first shot missed and decided to play it safe by stepping back farther away and use a normal arrow for his next attack. After seeing two of the strangers who had made an attempt to help him get put out of play with the bandits' powerful attacks, he made sure to keep at at the back to keep from getting knocked out as well. "Don't miss don't miss don't miss." He whispered to his arrow as if it would make a difference, firing again at the pyromancer.

Roric moved back one space (1AP)
    Shoot arrow (7AP)
    4/12 AP

Eeeyup, that was about as good of an answer that Lumen could expect. A bit more salty than he thought, but still about where he had expected. Laurentinus must've had some kind of shit RNG luck for all this to be happening to him. Then came addressing Kara, who this might as well been the first time they're met since any other chance was halted by the fact that he was asleep. "Probably not, I mean I was asleep for most the carriage ride here. I'm Lumen." Introductions were taken care of and Lumen was still confused as to why the Alice hate. Either she did something or something happened involving her while he was sleeping. Oh well, he wasn't really going to ask about it anyway. Laurentinus spoke up once more about looking for Conrad and Tessa, sometime that was a good idea to do. "It might be best to wait for your wound to heal, unless Alice has more of her healing water."

"I once was like you, until the Gods decided to royally **** me over so **** them, they abandon me, I return the favour, it's that simple." The man stated, sure he was bitter but if this man had seen what he had seen and been through the same things he would also be bitter, very bitter. Ulrich had received two contradicting answer but decided to follow the one from the alledged leader of the group, meaning Sanderson's directive would be the one he'd follow, instead of the one from the tree hugging hippy. Though he would argue that if they needed a powerful fighter with them they ought to enlist Ulrich for that role but it wasn't exactly worth it. So Ulrich would go to defend the town that he had calmed home for about two years. "Just call me Ulrich would you, I ain't a bloody knight." Ulrich said, then a guard ran up to them asking them if they were there to defend the town. "Don't you remember, I tried to help you lot out in the first attack, come on, let's go take us some overgrown lizards." Ulrich said as he followed the guardsmen.

Baldomar beat the thug savagely, as Aston moved up beside him. He blocked a pathetic strike from one of the thugs as he roared with laughter. Crashing skulls was fun, he trusted Aston to cover him as he would cover the former captive, Roric with his hammer as he moved backwards to fire a shot at the pyromancer. The great Baldomeister was unaware of Kevin and Anthea's demise, simply because imagining the spiderweb like cracks in one's skull as he hammered it was just distracting him from the bigger picture as he focused on those within an arms reach to hammer their faces in. Baldomar swung his mighty blunt weapon of mass destruction at one of the thugs.

Baldomar used Hammer strike on the Thug top left of him

Just as Arthur had feared Badun had done nothing to protect himself from the attacking thugs. On the other hand he had also done nothing to help stop them either. Cursing his decision to try and help the selfish git when he could have helped Anthea or Kevin, Arthur ran forward to help take out the third thug. While he would have liked to check on the two wounded members of their party the group was quickly getting picked off and there would surely be more casualties if he didn't step up and fight.

    Darklight Disturbance
    Arak'Un, The Mines:
The creature howled in pain as Conrad sliced it violently down the side. Rayyad lunged stepped forward, spun, and lunged into its side with his spear. The creature slumped, but was about to fight back before Tessa knocked it on the head and it fell unconscious
"Nice job guys! We beat it! Just beyond here should be the totem..." he looked down curiously at the spider. A pool of blue blood was gathering under it as it slowly bled out. From the shadows, a hundred sets of eight eyes stared at the group, judging their actions "Tessa... do you know any medicine? I know this sounds stupid but... can you heal it? I... I know it tried to kill us but it was just defending its home!"

    Big Game Hunting
    Fordington, Wizard's District:

"Very good old chap, but I didn't actually know what the runes meant at all. I just deduced that the mage would only want to keep out drakes" Sanderson said to Aedan. He smiled at Bryce. He didn't know if this had been because of the hit to the head from the Night Knight, or if he'd been born like this. Either way, he was certainly a different individual. That wasn't a bad thing, everybody was different in some way. Sanderson remembered when he was younger, he was certainly no better than Bryce. Though... for different reasons. "To the library!" Sanderson announced, taking his mind of thoughts of the past, and heading towards the library with purpose. He knocked on the door, and the door opened a crack
"Who's there? Is it that horse rider guy? I told you I don't want to hear about your gods!" A shrill voice exclaimed
"Uh, no my lady! It is I, Sanderson Bracklewood of the Adventurer's Society! I presume you are the Wizard Iceroth?" He introduced himself. There was a pause, then a scuffle and footsteps walking away, then coming back. There was a rattle of chains, and locks being unlocked, before the door swung open wide and there stood a woman in blue robes
"Sorry about that, I get a lot of unwanted visitors. Come in!" she lead the group further into the library. It was not a large building but held a substantial amount of books, on a table in the centre of the building lay a dead drake that seemed to be in the middle of a dissection "I know this invasion has sucked for the people here, but it's great for my experiments" she casually commented as she approached the side of the table and put on some gloves "So what are you here for?"

    Fordington:
    Guard Commander Chuck Telviron:
"I'm glad you're so eager! Now I've noticed major infestations of Fire Drakes in the armoury, and a lot of water drakes in the river. Those are our main threats, which do you think we should target first?"

Ulrich followed Commander Chuck. "It's my home 'round here, why wouldn't I want to defend it?" He asked Chuck, which then presented them with a choice, well that choice wasn't all that difficult now was it. If they took the armoury, they would have access to more weapons and armour, sure it meant fighting fire drakes, but he was sure he could take them. If they had more weapons they could equip more people to fight and if more people fought the defence would be a lot easier. "Armoury." Ulrich said, expecting Chuck as a guard commander to understand his reasoning for the choice.

The charge had helped and the Spider had been defeated, Tessa delivering the final blow. It apparantly wasn't dead, as Rayyad requested to heal it. He'd half expect it to come back with a vengeance next time around, but Conrad kept quiet about it, just watching the sets of eyes in the darkness, there were a lot of them and just to feel a bit more comfortable he kept his sword in his hand, but stood by. There was nothing he could do and if he brought up killing the spider he'd both sow discord and sign his own death warrant neither of which seemed to be like a very great idea, still didn't mean he liked it though as he stood with his back towards Rayyad and Tessa as they went about their business as he stood watch. His concerns would only be thrown to the wayside anyways, so he'd save himself the effort and kept the concerns to himself.

Bryce nodded, smiling to Aedan before following Sanderson in. He flinched at the strange woman's voice, but followed his leader inside the house nonetheless. After all, he had promised to go with Sanderson to help him. "We want to know about the Winter Man. He sounds like a bad person. The Citrus God knows more about it, though. He talked to drakes." Bryce stated proudly, pulling Aedan closer for the Cold Woman's inspection. "He knows lots of things. Tell her!" He turned to Aedan, a sleepy smile on his face.

Tessa was already kneeling beside the spider as Rayyad spoke, trying to discern if the creature was still breathing. Judging by the spiders it could call forth, it was a leader of some sort. A caretaker. She wouldn't kill a mother bear, and she would rather not leave this spider in any less shape to take care of the young ones she was assuming were around here somewhere.

    Tessa nodded in reply to
Rayyad, tearing some of the strips off her shirt in order to bandage the spider. As she worked, she glanced up, seeing for the first time all the eyes that were watching them. "Sorry, little ones." She murmured, carefully stopping the wound from bleeding. "We just need to get through, and then we'll be on our way."

She patted the spider gently, hoping somehow it would sense that she hadn't wanted to hurt it, and she hoped that it would get better.
"As good as I can get it." She told
    Conrad and Rayyad, standing up.

Kara ran her fingers through her hair. "You should listen to Lumen, Ren." She said tiredly. "I won't be able to carry you if you collapse halfway through the tunnels, and I highly doubt Lumen or Alice would want to take the honor." She found a place to sit, a half rotted bench, and gingerly sat on the sturdiest looking parts. "How did you guys end up here?" She directed the question at Lumen, mostly because Alice was radiating dislike. She wasn't sure why, but she couldn't be bothered, given that Alice gave off the aura of a mouse, and Kara had made friends with a godsdamned spider.

    Darklight Disturbance
    Arak'Un, the Mines:
Rayyad smiled as Tessa healed the spider
"Calm..." He told the nearby spiders, watching from the shadows. One by one they began to leave when they were sure their master (or mistress?) was safe. "You did a really good job here Tessa! Are you sure you don't want to take up the offer to live here with the spiders for the rest of your life? Heh... that was a joke. It wasn't a very good one" Rayyad looked down and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly "Anyway, let's go! We should almost be there" as they walked through the tunnel, leaving the spiders behind, Rayyad felt a pressure in his mind. His other side was more prevalent, but it was biding its time. They eventually arrived at a large dark chamber with something in the centre. It was a thick wooden pole, with intricate carvings of faces, skulls, animals, tribal carvings of various kinds. "Here it is... the binding totem... We should take it up to Arak'Un where we can work out what to do with him" he slowly turned to Conrad and gave the man a big pleading smile "Hey Conrad... you're a big strong man..."

The suggestion came that they should wait for his wound to heal, but Laurentinus was not fan of standing around. "It is just a small wound on the hand. I don't think I would pass out from that." However that being said Kara had already taken a seat. Now they definitely weren't going anywhere. There was little chance that he could make her move. She was one of the most stubborn girls he had met. Something about that was slightly attractive to be honest.

Laurentinus didn't dare sit on the bench where
Kara had taken a seat. It didn't look safe to dare sit there. Instead he found himself sitting on the ground across from her, listening to the conversation that was being held. He didn't much care what was going on, so he didn't speak up, but he didn't mind listening in. It wasn't like there was much else for him to do given he was being ordered to wait until his wound healed, which would take who knows how long.

It seemed that there was two spots that the drakes were the worst. Part of him thought it would be good to divide and concern, but in reality there was strength in numbers and it would keep them both safer. Not feeling like arguing about where to go, Sebastian gave the guard a nod. "Lead the way to the armoury then. We will take care of those drakes in no time." He assured the guard. He was confident that Ulrick was a good enough fighter that he wouldn't make him a liar when he said that. Giving his horse a light kick, Sebastian guided it forward, following the guard to their destination.

With two of the four people here taking a seat, Lumen followed their example and took a seat on the cave floor where he was standing. "We followed a narrow path that way and ended up here." Lumen replied, explaining it to the best of his abilities. He wasn't exactly sure on how they'd gotten here himself, but at this point he was simply going with the flow at this point.

Conrad still disagreed with the plan to heal the spider but just let it happen, if this was going to bite them in the ass, it wasn't on him, no wait they'd probably still blame him for not speaking up. No matter, Rayyad was talking to the spiders, telling them to calm down didn't he say he didn't have any power over them or was he just confused about that. No matter, Tessa did what she had to do and patched up the huge Arachnid. "Well done." Conrad said, looking at the result of Tessa's handiwork, he was glad there was a skilled medic among them, he had seen quite a few people not make it because the medics either ****ed up or wasn't present at all. As they went on they quickly stumbled on the Totem as Rayyad suggested he should carry it. "Yes, yes, working on it." The soldier said as he walked over to the totem and wrapped his arms around it trying to lift it and have it rest on his shoulder so it would be easier to carry and move about.

Aedan followed them off to the library. He wasn't surprised to find out that Sanderson didn't actually know what the Runes meant. To be able to understand that, one had to learn an awful lot of the Runes and to specifically shut out Drakes as their leader had guessed would require a lot of specifics that he didn't have the first clue about. When they got to the library, the wizard they were looking for turned out to be as batty as the rest of the people that they had run into today. Internally, Aedan groaned. Is there nobody in this world other than Sanderson that has some actual semblance of sanity? Part of him debated going home as soon as they were done here because apparently the rest of the world was entirely weird, but he knew that was silly. He just had to get used to the strangeness of outside. Bryce soon pushed him in front of the woman awkwardly and it took the young Druid a couple of moments to find his words.
"Yes, yes, the Winter Man. You see, I spoke to one of the Drakes while I was with Old Man Greenbeard. I found out that they're here because they can't return to their natural habitat. Something, or someone that they call the Winter Man is stopping them." He explained. "According to the Drake, he is making winter last longer than it should over there. They've had to come down from the mountains where they usually live because there aren't enough wild animals returning there to sustain them."

Aston saw Arthur moving up on the right and took his chance. He struck out with his primary weapon, his arming sword and went for the throat. The Thug on his left had a weakness in his armour where he had taken a hit earlier. He could use that. His blade darted for the opening with the agility of a snake.

Aston was Disrupted for 2 AP (9/11 AP)
Arming Sword Strike on Burning Blade Thug vertical (4/11)
    Exploit Weakness Triggered!
Consecutive Shortsword Strike on Burning Blade Thug to the left for 2 AP less (3/11)
Consecutive Shortsword Strike on Burning Blade Thug to the left (0/11)

Roric loosed an arrow at the Burning Blade Pyromancer! Distracted by the spell he launched at Anthea, the mercenary didn't see the arrow coming and it struck the man in the chest! He falls to one knee, critically wounded!
Burning Blade Pyromancer takes 31 damage.

Baldomar brought the hammer down on the Thug in front of him and the Thug fails to get his shield in the way! The Thug's skull cracks open through the helmet and meaty chunks go everywhere!
    Burning Blade Thug is dead.

Arthur strikes the Burning Blade Thug with his dagger, but the Thug brings his shield round and blocks the attack!

Aston strikes the Thug directly above him with his arming sword, stabbing the thug through the throat with a well placed thrust. The Thug staggers back, gurgles and falls to the floor, dead.
Aston deals 57 damage to the Burning Blade Thug! The Thug is down!
Exploit Weakness triggers, reducing the AP of his next attack by 2!
Aston strikes the Thug with his Shortsword, but the Thug blocks the strike with his shield!
He strikes again with his Shortsword, stabbing him through a weakened section of the armour and slaying the final Thug!
Aston deals 32 damage to the Burning Blade Thug, it dies. (Exploit Weakness also triggered again, but that was irrelevant.)

The Crossbowman, seeing his allies get cut to pieces by the team and his last surviving friend on one knee with an arrow in his chest, sees no reason to stick around. He runs, throwing his crossbow down behind him.

The Pyromancer drops his staff to the floor and starts to crawl away, clutching his chest and coughing up blood.

Victory for the team (except Badun, damn slacker)!

    Elsewhere in the forest...

The crossbowman threw off his helmet, his crossbow long since abandoned in his haste to flee the scene. He leaned against a tree, panting. Whoever those guys were, they put up a bloody good fight. He knew that the ones they took down were still breathing. That girl didn't look much more than a damn kid, but that ragtag group had kicked their arse. How the hell did this even happen? He started to move again, making his way from tree to tree. He heard a rustle in the tree above him and thought nothing of it. Probably just a damn bird. This place was full of them. Damn birds and their stupid songs. Couldn't get any peace. He reached for his weapon to shoot it, but found none. He looked up out of curiosity, seeing what he missed the opportunity to shoot. A shadow passed over his head as a mass of human fell from the tree above him, sword pointing straight at him.

"Sneak attack biiitch!" Cried Russell, the conveniently helpful scout as he executed one of those fancy drop kills that he read about in some book. He picked himself up off the floor and yanked his sword out of the crossbowman's skull. He kicked the body. "How do you like that, eh Crowe? Who's getting kicked around now?" He kicked the body again for good measure and searched it. Having taken all of Crowe's gold, the gold that Crowe stole from him, and all of his items of value, he got back to the whole 'getting out of the place' thing.

Aston wiped his swords off and sheathed them. He looked at Arthur.
"Thanks for the assistance. If you hadn't distracted him, I might not have got him. You should go tend to the wounded with those healing skills of yours. We're not quite done here." He looked to the others who remained standing, particularly at Roric. "Have any medical skills? If you do, do you mind helping? And someone deal with him over there." Aston gestured to the Pyromancer who was doing his best to crawl away.
