Legends of Tyrrus

Lumen and Alice hadn't even gotten that far before a carraige had stopped in front of them. Shyra was the one in said carriage and the first thing she did was to ask if he knew were the others were. First he shook his head, for he didn't know where most of the others were, then he motioned towards Alice. "Alice said she saw Conrad and Tessa with some spider guy on a giant spider." As for Kara and Laurentinus , he had no idea what so ever on where they were.

Darklight Caverns, Arak'Un:
"Great! Let's go then" Rayyad placed both gems in the remaining sockets, and there was a deep rumbling sound. The wall rose up into the ceiling, revealing a dark tunnel beyond. Rayyad took a few steps in, his glaive held out in front defensively "It's terribly dark in here..." suddenly he jumped, startled, before relaxing again "Sorry, it's just a statue, I... heh... thought it was something dangerous"

The cave you've just entered is really dark. You are in a small area of light, you can just about see grotesque statues around the cave. The light is coming from a particular statue with a faintly glowing red gem in one hand.

The Westwood, Ashten Village:
Shyra blinked. A spider man on a giant spider? Well it would make sense considering they'd fought giant spiders before. This was still absurd
"Dastardly! It must be the assassin!" Lord Galaharram interrupted
"Shush now. You two had better get in, we're heading to the caves. I imagine Kara and Lau-Duke Rention..." she quickly corrected herself, rolling her eyes at Arval and motioning for Lumen to play along "...have gone there already. They may be in danger, we'd better get moving"

A short carriage ride later...

Shyra, Arval Galaharram, Lumen and Alice, stood by the entrance to the caves. It was big and dark, and beyond it lay the network of caves known as the Darklight Caverns. According to legend, constructed by the great Earth Dragon Cthuth for his followers to go through to invade Tyrrus during the Second Dragon War. But that was probably just a myth. Kara tried to stifle her laughter, but before long the sound of it echoed through the caves. "Are you sure you're not a noble? You're not some bastard from the west, out here for a roll in the countryside?" She teased, grabbing Ren's hands and pushing them out of the way as she crawled over his legs to get to the other side of his body, where the wound lay. "I bet you're used to your fancy ladies in fancy silk dresses, running away from mice."

She tore off part of the bottom of her shirt, pressing it against the wound as she spoke, hoping her words distracted him from her actions. "Oh, Lord Rention!" She pressed her unused hand against her forehead, as if falling into a faint. "Spiders, big as my pinky finger! Save me!" Her voice trilled on the last part as she broke down into laughter again. If it wouldn't have removed the pressure from the wound, she would have pretended to fall back into a dead faint. Priorities. She told herself, shifting from her cross legged position to resting on her knees in order to be able to peer at the injury. When she saw the full extent of the damage, she whistled, pushing down her worry.

"That armour doesn't seem to have done much good on you." She commented, peering into Ren's eyes. "Can you see me okay?" If it really was bad, and he went into shock, she would not be equipped to handle it.

Tessa stilled as Rayyad jumped before going forward and taking his hand, squeezing his fingers gently for encouragement. "We're here with you." She murmured with a smile before letting go and heading cautiously towards the glowing red gem. "That's too easy, right?" She muttered to herself, keeping an eye out for any sort of movement that might give away an enemy.

 

His comment about the slot on the statue had been ignored, that was perfectly fine. Especially given that Rayyad hadn't even been sure whether or not the Ancient ones were entirely evil or not. He wouldn't bring it up again and merely watched as the wall opened up in front of them beyond it it was dark, he didn't exactly fear the dark itself, but the promise of hallucinations and the spiders from before he didn't like it at all. Not knowing what would be hiding under that darkness was something that bugged him. There was a light in the dark and he went over to inspect it. The statues in the dark weren't bothering him too much, they were simply statues, it wasn't as if they would come alive all of a sudden. He went over and inspected the statue that was holding the gem, he couldn't find anything that would appear for it to be a trap, so he reached out with steady hand and wrapped his fingers around the gemstone and took it in his hand. Tessa had been wondering if it couldn't be this easy and maybe it wasn't, but there was no going back now.

Baldomar had parried the blows the wolves tried to land on him with his trusty warhammer, but the cowardly wolves clearly weren't hungry enough or they knew that if they stuck around they were gonna get hammered to death. Well then the wolves wanted to have a piece of him huh? He went over to one of the creatures and beat down on it with his fists.

One aforementioned carriage ride to the cave later, Lumen was standing at the mouth of the cave. "So are we going to stand here waiting or are we going to venture in?" Lumen questioned. It wasn't out of anticipation or excitement or something along those lines. He just didn't see the point of standing out here.

 

Alice's pov:



She was walking with Lumen until Shyra showed up. This was not going to be good. She expected her to go off the rails, but then there was a surprise she was speaking like she cared. She was probably drunk or something. That had to be it there was no other reason that Shyra was being this nice. Well she now knew what she had to do to get Shyra to be nice and that was get her drunk. Lumen then explained to Shyra what she had told Lumen about what had happened to Tessa and Conrad. That was when she was forced into the carriage by Sam without much choice in the manner and there was nothing she could do about it. Soon they ended up at Darklight Caverns. That was when Lumen asked if they were going to go in or not. She did not know. There was bond to be spiders everywhere. She then walked to the outside wall of the cavern and put her hand on the rock to see if she could get any information on the cavern before they went in.



Kevin's pov:



After sneaking up on a wolf and knocked it out he turned to watch Baldomar. He moved toward Anthea. He let out a sigh. She was not going to learn anything if you baby her. He saw that Baldomar did not do a thing in the fight with the wolves. Big surprise there, the man was clearly to stupid to fight. He noticed that Aston seemed to be in trouble with the wolves. Walking as stealthily as he could he came up on a wolf and attacked it twice. It was now time to get away from the thing. So he walked away from the wolf.

To say that Artie was shocked was an understatement. He seemed to have frozen to the spot when the wolves appeared. Shaking his head to snap himself out of his stupor he looked around to see if he could be of any assistance. Baldomar looked as if he too was unprepared for the fight. To his left he could see one of the wolves between them, though whether it was headed for him or Baldy he didn't know. Looking around further he saw that Anthea was trying to help push the wolf away from him. Shouting a thank you to her he moved to action to see if he could defend Baldomar before he got himself hurt.

Aston felt the wolf's teeth biting deeply into his sides. He roared in pain at the beast that came from his left side, totally unexpectedly. He should have kept a better watch. Losing his situational awareness in the middle of a battle was not the right example to give to the new recruits. Well, maybe they'll learn what not to do. I hope someone here knows a thing or two about medicine or I'm in trouble.
"Oh no you don't!" Aston snarled as the Alpha wolf backed away from him. He was going to finish that damn thing off. He leapt after it and struck with his short sword towards the beast and noticed that Kevin was running up to the wolf that just took a bite of out his side. He twirled and sliced it with his longer blade. Die damn you.

The first wolf was utterly ruined by his attack and to dodge past the second felt good. It was like his reflexes that had been off his entire life had finally kicked in and he stepped neatly away from the lunging wolf with the slathering jaws. He grinned at it.
"Feel the justice of the order!" Kellan cried before striking again with the Radiant Sword. After that, Kellan sprinted towards the larger fight. They probably needed him!

"You are most welcome, Sanderson." Aedan replied in as regal and powerful a voice as he could muster. A voice befitting of the so called 'God of Dragonfruits'. He didn't even know what a Dragonfruit was. With the crazy now considerably dialled back, he was able to enjoy their walk through the Everwood. There was a certain comfort in being amongst the trees with the sounds of birds and other animals around them after the madness that had been the trip so far. Once they arrived at Fordington, he sighed and mentally prepared himself for more insanity. He wrapped his robes around him a little more to try to preserve warmth in the cold northern air. At least the town looked pleasant and quite quaint. Primarily wood with the occasional stone structure, glowing with a homely light. This place felt comfortable. "Well, let us get inside. Or something. It's cold out here, and we might be able to find out a bit about these Drakes from the townspeople." Maybe they'd be more normal here. Maybe. At least that Night Knight character wouldn't have followed them. ​

 

Panola was happy to be outside again. The air wasn't as fresh as it was on her mountain, but it was still nice to feel the wind in her hair. She looked at the town ahead of them. It looked nice. She wondered how many towns there were in the world. She had seen one, but not even all of it. They were much bigger then her tribe's home. She chuckled as Aedan found it cold. Being up in the mountains made her accustom to the cold. She wondered what the people in this town would be like. The others were brash and loud, but she imagined not everyone was like that. "I hope they're friendly, the Towns People."

 

Badun had ended up lagging behind the group and this lack of attention was uncharacteristic. He mentally cursed himself as he tottered up the road, heading toward the sounds of conflict in the distance. Being a mere businessman Badun had no desire for battle, but he suspected that valiant acts in combat was the kind of currency his new companions dealt in. His flintlocks had got him out of a few scrapes before, but now would be the time to wield them in the face of true danger. He heard wolves howling up ahead, of course it was blimin' wolves, can't walk a mile without running into one in this country, well at least his guns should make short work of them. Knowing himself to be almost upon the battlefield, Badun halted and concealed himself, keeping an eye on the conflict at hand, he would choose just the right moment to strike; Just the right moment to show off his prowess, to appear to be a strong and noble companion. Badun drew one of his flintlocks, ensured the barrel was loaded and cocked the hammer, he proceeded this process with the second and then the third leaving it uncocked to avoid blowing his own trouser leg off. Then he drew up the two readied pistols and with a quick glance round the tree, behind which he took cover, awaited his moment[DOUBLEPOST=1457306074][/DOUBLEPOST]

Lyra awoke contented, sun rays shined in through the parting in the curtains and the wood of the inn hummed organically with the bustle of its patrons downstairs. Her happiness was short however as she started at the realisation that for the sun to be shining in through the windows of her room ,which lay on the west side of the inn, it would have to be the middle of the afternoon. Quickly Lyra gathered her items and pulled herself into her suit taking a brief breather to insure it's crisp lines had not been compromised by her rushed dressing. There was always time to tend to your appearance, not doing so was a sign of disorderliness and that was something not to be present in a lady. After haven clothed she rushed downstairs and queried the inn keep for the route to Fordington. and any news of her travelling companions including the complete liability that was Sanderson. Apparently they'd had a scrap with some petty thief, but not much else was to be offered. Lyra thanked the innkeeper for her troubles and then dashed onward to Fordington ensuring a steady pace that would allow her to gain on the group without sapping too much of her energy. Thankfully Sanderson had been leisurely in his travel and Lyra arrived only a few hours after the others, who awaited outside the town.

This far north the air grew cold and Lyra hugged herself for warmth as she approached Sanderson "Nice to know you missed me" she joked, "How are the men fairing?"

Kara stuck her tongue out at Laurentinus before focusing back on stemming the flow of blood from the wound. She giggled at his joke as pulling the cloth away to peer at the wound. "I never thought of myself as a long lost princess, waiting to be rescued. If you don't do it yourself, then what's the point?" She sat back, setting the cloth back on the wound, but more gently. "I've been bitten twice in two days, I must be really tasty." she complained, though her smile canceled out any real annoyance on her part. "Funny thing, I don't recall ever being told I would make good spider bait."

She glanced towards where they had come from with a bit of a frown. It wasn't far, but enough so that it would be annoying to try to haul the amoured man back. "I certainly never thought I'd end up here." she told Ren with a sigh.

Tessa peered at each of the statues in turn, biting her lip. She stilled when she heard a sound behind her, and turned to see Conrad grabbing at the contraption that she had ignored. "Conrad wait!" She called out, stepping towards him. Did men not speak before they act? Is this why people always tell women not to just mate with men? "Rayyad stop him!" Worst case scenario the entire cave would come down on them, and she didn't fancy her chances of surviving a cave in.

Bryce was busy peering at Sanderson's side burns, waiting for just one of them to move away from his face when he realized the others were speaking. "I agree with the Citrus God. He speaks wisely." Bryce commented with a sagely nod before stepping away. Sanderson's murderous facial hair would have to wait, there might yet be fruit suitable in this town for him to sup on. Either that or they had finally arrived at their mission point. Which is......He blinked, drawing a blank.

Probably something important. Shouldn't ask, might look stupid.

Seeing the violent deaths and wounds of its comrades, the final wolf saw no reason to stick around and tried to flee.

Scrawny Wolf 02 tried to flee.

With the wolves safely dispatched, the man in the tree jumped down and rushed over to the group of them.
"By the Father, thank you!" He cried. "I thought I was a goner! My friends, the other people I was with left me behind! They just took off and ran! I don't even know where they went!" He looked at the group of them.
"How can I repay you? You saved my life."

Aston remained silent, allowing the others to answer the question. He knew what he would do in their position, but he wanted to gauge their characters to see what they would do presented with someone as thankful as he was. In the meantime, Aston clutched his side. He would interrupt them a moment.
"Are any of you healers? I seem to have taken a hit." He stated, sounding disappointed. Really, he should have paid more attention and he wouldn't have been bitten at all. However, perhaps by his distraction he had made sure that the wolf didn't target any of the new people. Perhaps it was worth it in that case.

Kellan was running to catch up to them as his fight had taken place a short distance from everyone else's. He could see that Aston was nursing an injury in the side. He grimaced, that looked painful. Luckily, nobody else seemed harmed by it. ​

 

Badun heard the sounds of steal of steal on teeth, the cries of men and the growling of wolves. He swiveled round, two flintlocks held out ready to tear through the nearest wolves hide, but to his surprise the fight was over. He let of a shot at the wolf that was attempting to flee, but it was halfheartedly and likely to miss. Badun was not on his A game today. He sighed and made his way over to the main group, who were surrounding some man who must have got caught off guard by the snarling creatures. Slotting himself into the back of the group, Badun tried not to draw attention after he'd completely failed his attempt to impress them. Showing up right after the battle was never deemed very honorable, not to suggest Badun was indeed honorable, but that was the appearance he was trying to emulate.

 

As soon as Aston said he'd been hit Artie was on him in a flash. The medic knew joining the group was a good choice after all, he may not have been the best fighter but he was a damn good healer. "Sit down Aston and let me take a look at you," turning to the others he asked, "do any of you have some water to spare?" He whipped off his cloak and lay it down for Aston to sit on, no need in getting dirt in any wounds. Checking his bag for supplies he cursed at the lack of equipment he'd brought but at least he had bandages and herbs, those would come in handy. He could always purchase some new equipment on their journey anyhow.

Waiting for some water he looked over at the man from the tree. He might ask to give him a once over when he was finished helping Aston. Who knew what injuries could have befallen him before the group arrived? He couldn't help but feel a stab of pity for him, being left behind by his 'friends'. Perhaps Aston would consider letting the man travel with them for the meantime.

"Indeed Aedan" Sanderson nodded to his young friend "And Panola, I've visited before and they were very good sports then. Hopefully this drake incident hasn't changed their outlook! Although I reckon they will be happy to see any friendly faces at trying times like these" Sanderson turned and smiled at Lyra as she finally caught up with them "Apologies lass, this morning was rather eventful, I must have lost track of you!" Sanderson seemed sincerely sorry, and mentally cursed himself for leaving her behind "They seem to be doing well, although we're all a bit tired after hiking all this way, isn't that right chaps?" he chuckled "Onwards we go! Hopefully there's a warm fire in town"

As chance would have it, there was indeed a warm fire in Fordington. But perhaps it wasn't quite what they were looking for. The "warm glow" they had spotted from afar, appeared to be a quarter of the town which was currently on fire. "...Oh" Sanderson said, shocked. There appeared to be no risk of the fire spreading, as the town was split into districts by wide roads, and there was no saving the district currently on fire. Outside the town, there were camps of tents and quickly constructed abodes, campfires dotted among them. From a cursory inspection, it was obvious that out of the four districts of the large town, only one was intact and habitated. This one had a squat fortress within and seemed to be the main wealthy quarter of the town, there were guards surrounding it, striding along the wide roads that separated from the dark, ruined, and uninhabited areas. It seemed as though the population of the other districts had been cramped into this one small district, or thrown out of the walls to set up camp in the fields surrounding the city.

From within the ruined districts come the shrieks and calls of Drakes, unmistakably drakes. An important looking man walks among the guard outside the inhabited district, looking worried and commanding the guards. "This situation is more dire than I expected"

"Yes yes, let's go in" Shyra muttered, gesturing and walking into the cave

"Nobody needs to see that" Shyra stated with a harrumph and crossed arms as she suddenly appeared in the cave "This isn't a date, this is an expedition" she explained. But she was truly glad to see the two of them alive, despite her demeanor. She was about to say some more when she was rudely interrupted by Lord Arval
"My lord! You are injured!" he rushed forward "I shall slay whoever did this to you!"

Rayyad braced himself as Conrad took the gemstone, holding his arms over his head and crouching. But all that happened was that the door they came in on, and another door on the opposite end of the room, closed slowly, with a grinding noise. "......Uh...Crisis averted, I don't think anything dangerous happened" he stated. But the gem in Conrad's hand was glowing brighter than before, enough for them to see the surroundings with. The room had four doors, one they'd come through, two on the sides, and the one on the opposite side. "Hmm, okay... nothing strange happening so far"

Bryce frowned, his eyes taking in the flames as he stood behind Sanderson. Whatever part of Bryce that didn't work on a regular basis kicked into gear now as he surveyed the scene. "We should report to whomever is in charge." Bryce murmured, his brain analyzing and spitting out information his mouth seemed to understand, but he didn't quite comprehend. "If anyone has healing magic, maybe they can help the victims."

Tessa grimaced and crossed her arms over her chest. "You didn't know that!" She said to Rayyad, somewhat annoyed with the two males in her party. Never thinking ahead is what's going to get you killed. She ignored that it was also that very tactic that had gotten her bitten by the spider. "So what now, we pick a doorway?" She peered at the two on the sides, before the one straight ahead.

"I guess....if you guys are going to take my thoughts into considering instead of going all Alpha Wolf on me, then I would pick the left door." Forwards seemed too obvious, and the right? Well....she had never had much luck on the right. "At least we don't need a torch with the light that thing's giving off." She murmured, letting her arms drop. "So, what's it going to be?"

Kara's eyes widened in surprise as Ren's lips touched hers. Maybe he hit his head or something. Maybe he somehow got poisoned through his armor. Maybe he accidentally ate one of those dragon fruits. Whatever the case, she didn't stop him, instead wrapping her arms around his neck and shutting her eyes. Of course, they were so rudely interrupted by the Queen B- Shyra herself, and Kara pulled back. "Shyra? Thank gods you're here!" She called to their leader, her eyes remaining locked on Ren's as she searched for the answer to her unsaid question.

A soft smile appeared on her face as she found it, and she gently pressed her lips to his once more before biting him just above the mouth, hard enough to draw blood. She winked at Ren before turning, eyes sparkling with mischief. "He was bitten by a spider, on the face. Such bad luck, but I was doing my best to suck the poison out. He's lucky he had me here." She managed to roll out of the way as Arval raced to the "Duke's" side. "Lord Arval, I'm not sure, being a poor and ill educated servant, but I think there might be some of the poison left." She gently traced the corner of Ren's mouth, suppressing her grin as she feigned worriedly looking into Ren's eyes. "Stay with me, my lord. Help is here."

She turned to Lord Arval, tears beginning to shine in her eyes. "I don't think I got it all out, please, you have to save him."

 

Well Kara and Laurentinus were alright, no sign of Conrad, Tessa, nor the apparent spider guy that had carried them off, but two out of four wasn't bad. Wait, the spider guy makes five, but he's not on our side so yeah, two out of four. Now as for what there were doing in the cave, that was their business and their business alone."So, you guys know where Conrad and Tessa went to?" Someone had to ask, and the someone was Lumen. As for the apparent dude who was dying due to poison, that was an completely different matter, one he didn't know how to deal with. Lazy edit over.
