Legends of Tyrrus

Conrad wasn't exactly paying attention to Rayyad and Tessa, probably for the better. When Rayyad agreed to his sudden change of heart he still couldn't help but feel a little stupid about it first defending one thing then deciding to go back to the original plan. When he did look at Tessa and Rayyad and saw they were holding hands, he had to derail his own thoughts. 'Conrad, you should chill, you're being unreasonable here.' He thought to himself and simply followed behind Rayyad and Tessa after all he didn't entirely understand them, just like they didn't fully understand him. Rayyad was indeed able to keep the spiders at bay and those they did see retreated into the darkness. He thought he could see them move within the shadows several times but couldn't say for certain.

When they arrived at the large stone door, Conrad took a moment to appreciate it's craftsmanship. The spiderface did unsettle him a little bit but it still looked magnificent. Rayyad mentioned something about the ancient Arak'un using gemstones as keys, while the idea was lovely and the result certainly was beautiful, he didn't exactly think it all that practical. While Rayyad looked around he followed the younger man's example. When Rayyad spoke up that something was rather convenient. He quickly assesed the situation "Hold on, Rayyad... I doubt the ancient ones would make it that easy..." Conrad said as he walked up to the man. The spider head was holding the gemstone in it's mouth. However there was the open portcullis and he didn't trust it. "Okay, I am willing to bet that as soon as we take the gemstone then that gate will come crashing down trapping us. We need something to keep it open, I don't know any magic so I'll volunteer for getting it once the portcullis is held in place." Conrad spoke thinking out loud.

Uncle Baldy's reasoning got through to Kellan and he had admitted his wrong and then smiled it reminded him a little of a wild boar, but he wasn't gonna say that out loud. His mate then decided to return the favour and insult his genius by asking him if he started making sense after their roads had parted "Uhm, no I have always done that, you just didn't see the genius of it. Good to know you have finally been enlightened." Baldomar said then following into the woods to see whatever had been attacked by wolves. He looked around as he did, masterfully dodging trees and looking all around him at the same time to see where little Anthea was. She had run off as well or did they just leave her behind? What was it with him and always losing sight of kids. He followed the others through the woods until they found a bloke in a tree with wolves around it. Baldomar unslung his warhammer and started to humm Can't touch this as he took up position to receive the oncoming wolves.​

Kara struggled, but the web held her fast. Grimacing in disgust, (What was her luck with these things, seriously?), she stuck her blades in the ground and pressed her hands together, forcing herself to focus. The air around her began to charge, and her eyes, when they opened, focused on the spider. I will prove myself. Not just to you. She forced the energy outward with her hands, the charge following the line of her fingers as they pointed towards the spider she had previously attacked. She hoped the spell would have enough charge to take out the hatching that had just been summoned, but if it didn't, well, then she knew her next victim.

Tessa frowned. Rayyad was right, it was convenient, but Conrad offering to hold the gate open seemed silly to her. What man could win a battle against stone? "Let's look around and see what we can find, first." She murmured, passing by both males to start looking around the room. A mongoose rat wouldn't make it easy for a snake to find her babies, after all. She had no doubt that as humans were both crueler and more intelligent then animals, that they would find a better way to trap anyone they didn't want disturbing their precious items.

She dropped Rayyad's hand, stepping towards one of the further corners in the room to see if anything was hidden. These guys would be so lost without me. She thought to herself with a small smile.

Bryce tried to stave off the wicked shadow man as he slowly corrupted each perfect fruit with his touch. "YOU FIEND!" Bryce screamed, leaping towards the man. A sound in his ear stopped him. ".....dragon." Someone was here! He stared up at the sky, wondering if the Citrus Gods were going to make their presence and cut down this blasphemer where he stood. "....dragon...." Bryce started jumping up and down, trying to fly up towards the voice.

"GIVE IT TO ME!" Bryce tried to jump up, but his injury prevented him from doing so. Instead, he could only loll about in the odd wheel machine, staring back at Sanderson's face, which, while somehow comforting, was not the face of the dragon fruit gods.

He glanced over, and saw Iris walking beside him. No Citrus god there either. But then Bryce made the mistake of looking to his left. There, close enough he could feel the man's breath on his skin, stood the most wrinkled human being he had ever seen. Bryce screamed and tumbled out of the wheelbarrow, falling to his knees in front of the Wrinkled One. "Citrus God, I am your most humble servant!" Bryce mumbled, his face in the dirt. He pretended it was because he wanted to be there, not because he couldn't move. "Please, take me under your wing. Teach me all you know. Show me the way." How could Sanderson and Iris walk in the presence of a god, and not know it?! He stayed prostrate before Aedan, once again, because he totally wanted to.

 

Bryce seemed to come out a little... Strange. The man was somehow scared by his presence next to him and threw himself out of the wheelbarrow on to the ground and then started referring to him as some sort of God. His first immediate thought was whether or not he had suffered a head injury during his fight with the so called Night Knight. He wasn't wearing a helmet. He fixed his eyes on the man holding himself prostrate as if the druid was some kind of God. He did say Cirtrus God, but what that was about he had no idea.
"I don't know which way you wish to learn. The way of the Mother perhaps?" He spoke, giving Sanderson a pleading look as if to say 'Help me, I have no idea what he's going on about'. Aedan offered him his hand. "However, what I do know is that you'll ruin your dressing if you throw yourself around like that in the dirt. Here, let me help you." It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye on his behaviour. He didn't know Bryce well enough to be able to tell whether he was simply strange and always acted that way, or whether he had suffered some injury that had caused this issue. At least he wasn't going to bleed to death or have an infected wound, so there was good news. Even if Aedan was some sort of Citrus God now, which certainly didn't exist. That said, he was talking about a mysterious thing known as a Dragonfruit earlier. Perhaps that had something to do with it? He'd have to go deeper to understand the madness. ​

 

Alice seemed pretty serious about seeing Tessa and Conrad being carried off by some spider guy. To serious for it to just be written off as her 'bumping her head'. Lumen sighed. he couldn't very well just let her go off on her own, well he could but it'd go against most of what he learned (and actually remembered) during his training. "Alright, I'll believe you." That was all he could do at this point.

Rayyad noted Conrad's thoughts and realised the man was right, although he doubted even Conrad could hold up the metal gate "Nah, you don't have to, I can always summons a wall of stone to hold up the gate" Rayyad pointed his staff and, after some concentration, a wall of earth erected itself in between the portcullis and the ground. "There we go!" he smiled, proudly. He moved over to the statue and took out the gem, wincing in anticipation. As expected the portcullis fell, but was stopped by the stone. Rayyad smirked, as though it was fine all along.

Tessa has come across a smaller statue, a red gem lies on the floor near it. Attached to the statue is a stone case.

Sanderson chuckled as Bryce awoke and smiled a response to the look that Aedan gave him, a smile that said "Just go with it" "nonsense, we cannot dirty the hands of a citrus god" Sanderson gently helped Bryce up "I appreciate your devotion, old sport, but we should get moving, can you walk suitably well?" he asked the man with care, as he supported him. He glanced at Aedan again, a look that said "he probably still needs to recover from the knock to the head" "Thank you, Oh Lord of Dragonfruits, for the healing efforts. Nevertheless, we should continue!"

They continued through the Everwood for a while, it was mostly uneventful. Sanderson took a couple of stops to hunt and fed the group with deer and rabbit, which he could cook very well, Eventually, as dusk settled, the town of Fordington could be seen. Fordington was a large town made mostly of wood and sometimes stone. It was the northernmost town in Tyrrus, a fact that was evident from the biting cold of the area. Nevertheless, the city glows with a warm, welcoming, light from fireplaces and candles "Our destination, Fordington. A jolly good city, under the protection of the Free City of Haven, but due to, ahem, recent events in Haven, they are unable to help with the Drake issue, thus we are here" Sanderson referred to the undead invasion of Haven that had only happened about a year ago, the invasion had left most of the city crippled and unable to help its far-reaching towns and villages, they had enough difficulty recovering.

Conrad sighed as Rayyad misunderstood him "My bad, I should have clarrified, I was volunteering to get the gem, not holding up that gate I doubt I'd be able to do that...." Was it truly his fault or was it also on the cultural divide between them. Rayyad did as he said and Conrad had proven to be right. The portcullis had been stopped however by Rayyad's summoning of stone. He himself had no magical abilities and sometimes wondered what it was like to create something from nothing like that. Meanwhile Tessa had wandered off to see what she could find, seeing Rayyad had liberated the first gemstone, he decided to see what else could be find within the room, the sound of his boots echoing throughout the empty space.

He didn't say a word and simply wandered around the room, eventually he circled around and he too stumbled on what Tessa had found he inspected the statue walking around it all and thinking for a moment. That last one had been trapped he didn't doubt this one was either. He knelt next to the gemstone and looked at the stone case. Yes that must be it, pick up the gem, case opens. Something was inside it, probably dangerous as well. Well he had the heaviest armour out of them didn't he? No, Tessa had found it and as the legendary law of the Jungle dictated, finders, keepers. He was curious about the stone case though, walking over to it he inspected the case closer, maybe it was unrelated to the gemstone. He looked to see if there was a way to get it open.​

"Tressspasssersss" The dark spiders hissed. The intruders had to be destroyed, for the Webber Prince. The dark shadows released their death grip on Kara and slid across the floor, the dark tendrils of black silk instead grasping Laurentinus's feet and holding them to the ground. The most injured spider howled at the loss of its hatchling and turned on the thief girl with a vengeance. With a swipe of its limbs the creature summoned a swathe of dark spines which shot out towards Kara. When this failed, its ally grabbed Kara with a dark web and brought her closer to the first spider, who then bit her with its pincers. meanwhile the second darkweaver attacked Laurentinus, but once again failed to poison the former guardsman. It was beginning to seem pointless for the spiders, but they couldn't just give up.

The Darkweavers activate their passive: Dark Weave. Laurentinus is ensnared and cannot move from his location.

Kara screamed when she was bitten, because have you ever been bitten by a giant spider? It hurts. "We just want our friends! Why can't you just let us go get them! Or better yet! GET THEM FOR US!" Kara rubbed her injury before her attention was torn from herself to Laurentinus, who had just been caught in the same snare she had. It would be worse for him, because while she had magic, so far he hadn't shown that he himself knew any spells. "Ren!" She called out, using her teleport ability to land behind the spider that was attacking him. She cut at the spider with her seraph blades,(hoping for a backstab because really, who expected a girl to come up behind them?), following it up with another strike before teleporting a few feet away to keep her distance from both enemies. "Hang in there! She told him, renewing her grip on her blades.

Tessa examined the statue, biting her lip as she tried to find any traps or tripwires attached to it. It was simply too easy for the gem to just be lying there. No, this had to be a trap somehow. "Hey, Conrad?" She asked softly, tapping her cheek with her forefinger. "Do you see anything...trap like?" Now she knew how a rabbit felt when it was trying to decide whether the food at the line of a snare was worth the risk.

She winced when Rayyad so casually went to retrieve the other gem, and resisted the urge to smack him. It could have easily been a much worse trap. He clearly didn't have any indication of how cruel humans could be to one another. She had seen what those claw toothed traps had done to wolves and bears, had helped more animals leave this world then she cared to remember rather then let them suffer for days in one of those. She wouldn't let the same happen to Conrad or Rayyad either. Which was why she was carefully examining the gem before picking it up.

Bryce mumbled into the dirt about how he could never sully the hand of a god with his own, having never touched one of the legendary fruits this god was said to have created. Sanderson ended up pulling him from the dirt, and then he blasphemed. "Oh mighty God, please don't strike down this unworthy believer!" Bryce begged, clinging to Sanderson like a child to their mother. "You just called him a lord." Bryce whispered in Sanderson's ear, "But he's a god."

Never the less, he managed to pull himself off the bearded man, while vaguely wondering the beard moved Sanderson's jaw, or the jaw moved the beard. Maybe the beard was alive. He would have to keep an eye on it, he decided, he and the God of Dragonfruits. Bryce gasped inwardly, his eyes wide. What if the God is here to keep the beard from murdering us? Could it be? Bryce wondered how he had been found worthy of the power of such a revenant.
Bryce kept silent for most of the walk, trying to devote his attention to peering at Sanderson's facial hair and making sure the Citrus God didn't become angry at the tribe of nonbelievers he walked in.

 

Alice's pov:



"Ok lets go," she said to Lumen. He headed to the door of the black smith house. She left the blacksimths not giving Lumen a chance to answer. She had to save Tessa and Conrad. She started making her way back the way she came going towards where she saw Tessa and Conrad being taken. She turned around making sure Lumen was following her or whatever. She was not going to waste anytime. She had a mission and she was not going to wait on anything. She hoped that Tessa and Conrad were alright.


Kevin's pov:



He stood by Anthea she wondered if she was ready for this. Wolves as strange as they were, something was off about them. Baldomar said something earlier but he ignored the man. He was probably trying to waste more time. It would not surprise him being how stupid the man was. It was a wonder how the man was not dead yet. That was when he noticed that there appeared to be someone in a tree. The wolves under the tree trying to get the man. Then the wolves charged at Aston. He gathered that they were probably hungry. He had some fruit in his bag, but he was not sure if the wolves would go for it. He reached into his bag pulled out the fruit and threw it as far as he could. It was at this time he wished that he had some uncooked meet on him in his bag, but that would be to much of a plot convenience for that to happen and he looked sadly at Sam for such a thing. He then turned to Anthea. "Are you ready for this?" He hoped she was for her sake. Wolves attacking people.

 

Conrad had been trying to figure out how to open the case, when Tessa asked him something. He looked at her and inspected the set-up again. The gemstone appeared to just be laying there not in a socket or anything. He looked up trying to see if anything would magicly come down if they took the gem but he didn't see anything up there. "It appears to just be lying there, not seeing anything here. Since you found it, the honours of claiming it are yours as well." He said. He didn't say that if anything would happen then he was right there with her. He decided to turn back to the stone case near the statue to see if he could find a way to open it. He hadn't heard anyone object to it anyways so he might as well see what he could find here. Rayyad might be interested in whatever was in the case as well if they could open it.​

Because the powers that be demanded it so, Tessa picked up the gem gingerly, holding it in both her palms as she waited for hell to rain down on her. When it did not, she breathed a sigh of relief, and, cradling the strange rock, carried it over to Rayyad. "I think this is the other piece." She offered it to him, still wary of any traps that might have been set.

(by the way, the green spaces are like bushes and stuff, they count as difficult terrain, it costs 2 AP to cross them instead of the usual 1)

After getting George to get the carriage again, they began to set off, with Lord Arval Galaharram accompanying them. Mostly because it was difficult to get rid of him. As they rolled through the village, Shyra kept a look out for her recruits, as much as she'd love to leave some of them behind, she couldn't. "There's Lumen" she pointed out to George, and he slowed the carriage by the young man in response. Shyra opened the door and leaned out slightly "Lumen, get in, we're heading to the caves early. Do you know where the others are?"

The first spider watched with horror as his friend was knocked to the ground, bleeding black blood. "Nooo, NOOO!" it hissed "Tressspasssersss!" It began to scuttle down the cave as fast as its legs could carry it, it needed to warn the Webber Prince.

Darklight Caverns: The Mines
Conrad notices that the statue has a slot for something to go in, shaped just like the red jewel they found lying in the floor by it. It is reasonable to assume the gem fell off the statue.
There doesn't seem to be any lock mechanism for the case, though it is sealed tightly shut.

"Great! That's both of them! Though I do wonder what's in the case" he held the gem with an intrigued expression "Knowing the ancients, probably nothing good. But you never know, after all, it's not like they were entirely evil. I'm a great believer that deceit can be good, like surprise parties! I've, uh, heard those are fun... never actually had one though..." Rayyad realised he was rambling "When you're ready, we can go beyond this door. I should warn you, once we go past we're in the realm of Azjol, champion of deceit. Side effects may include mild cases of hallucination, hearing strange voices, and encountering an annoying amount of puzzles"

 

Kevin's pov:



Anthea said that she would be fine but he was not so sure about that. He watched he attack and she seemed rather skilled at magic. Well it was time to get the battle. He noticed that the wolf was looking towards the fruit he tossed out there. "I will be back" he told Anthea. He headed toward the wolf with such stealth and grace it did not seem to notice him. He pulled out his weapon attacking the wolf with a swift motion twice then he moved back stealthy next to Anthea. It was almost like he never moved

Kara grinned. "Oh, I'm Ren Quick, and I fight in my fancy armour made from Tra La La Land." She tried to mimic his voice as she spoke, before pointing at the wound, throbbing on her leg. "This hurts, and I'm sitting down." With that, she slumped to the ground, resting her back against the cave wall as she took a deep breath. "You can blame it on me, Hawk Eyes, but I vote we rest for a second." Or an hour. "Those spiders were a lot tougher then the ones we fought before."

She glanced at the knocked out spider, both uneasy and full of pity. "If only we could communicate with them. We just want to find Doe Eyes and Conrad. We don't want to fight. Well, I don't want to." She glanced back at Ren, gaze thoughtful. It was an expression rarely on her face without any accompaniment from mischievousness. "I guess they're not in here, shacking up after all." She bit her lip, thoughts turning to worry. Wolfie seemed like he could take care of himself, but Doe Eyes, well, she was sweet, and gentle. How that girl had apparently survived the woods for so long, she didn't know.
Kara shook herself out of her musings, and a sly, albeit weary smile slid on to her face.

"Come rest with me, oh Knight of Tra La La." She teased. "Come show me what your fancy armour does for you."

Tessa sighed, then smiled at Rayyad. "It'll be okay. We can handle this together, right?" She said, her voice optimistic. "Although I wouldn't mind that chest staying closed." She glanced nervously at the stone object before walking up to stand in front of the door. "I'm ready if you both are." She spoke over her shoulder, eyes on the door ahead. She couldn't go back, not now. She had promised the Webbar King she wouldn't let him possess Rayyad, and she had promised to keep Conrad from being trapped.

Voices and hallucinations didn't scare her, and puzzles...well she would work through them with her boys. They would get through this. They had to.

 

Tessa had picked up the gemstone and nothing happened, as expected. She took it over to Rayyad who started rambling. Conrad had seen that there was a socket for something, presumably the gemstone that had been lying on the floor in front of the case. Tessa said she'd rather not have the case opened wheras Rayyad was curious as to what was inside. He went over when Rayyad warned them that there were hallucinations, deceit and an annoying amount of puzzles were ahead of them. Well no one ever said this expedition would be easy. "Ready and waiting." Conrad said "Well Rayyad, if you are curious there was a slot on the statue..."The hallucinations did scare him a little, but he didn't show it. He always perceived that everything around him was just as it is, no illusion. He feared he would be unable to distinguish what was real and what wasn't anymore and that's when it occured to him. The entire mystery with Tessa... what if that was all deception? All a lie, a cruel trick? But who would do that to him? What benefit would they get out of it? Puzzles he could handle there was always some sort of logic behind it and once you figured them out then you could easily solve them, hallucinations however seemed a lot more tricky and he didn't like it in the slightest.

Baldomar laid his eyes upon the scrawny wolves that were attacking them. Poor little things hadn't eaten in a while, so he couldn't really blame them that they were going after this blasted cityfolk numbskull though he'd like it better if they went after Kevin instead, the high lord of numbskulls. He moved closer to Anthea as she didn't seem to be the kind of person to do well in a nice cuddle with these lovely little wolves. I mean all they wanted was a little bit of love was that too much too ask? Well a bit of love and some nice meat, who wouldn't want that? Well sadly the majority and sadly due to his own encouragement of Sythwir they had to save this idiot now, he'd better make himself useful in fighting or Baldomar would politely tell him to go find a purpose for his meaningless existance. Now time to shake things up a little bit.

"Alright then you little doggie b*stard I'll make you into a nice wall decoration!" Kellan declared as he launched into action. Kellan channelled his magic and Blinked, appearing in a flash next to the Big Bad Wolf beside him. The Knight of the Radiant Sword gave it a wolfish smile, appropriate for his enemy really, then activated his blade. Radiance, the Radiant Sword itself, glowed with an inner light all of a sudden. It seemed entirely wrong in his hands, seeing as the sallow faced man wielded a weapon of holy majesty despite looking more like a brigand, but he wielded it with pride worthy of any knight. "Fall before the light of the Radiant Sword you mangy curs!" With a mighty war cry, Kellan brought the weapon down upon his foe and blasted a beam of light towards its companion that sent his long and unkempt hair fluttering behind him. It would have looked positively heroic on someone else. He held his sword out in front, ready to hold back anything that came.

Meanwhile, Aston saw the Alpha Wolf near him. It seemed to be hanging back, waiting for an opportune moment to strike at a weaker prey. He shook his head. Like hell that was going to happen. He stepped forwards boldly, twirling his twin blades. Let's get to work. First, he struck out with his arming sword in his right hand, the blade flashing silver as it leapt forwards towards the snarling beast. Immediately, Aston twisted and the shorter blade lunged in for blood. He twirled once more, the shortsword once again seeking its mark.
