I don't know. If so, you should get it checked. Because actually, the same thing happened to one of my mom's phones, and then the cracked part fell off, and the phone just wouldn't close all the way. It would basically hang open when you tried to close it.
Best bet is to take the laptop to a computer store so you can see what they say about it. For one, they'll be able to see the extent of the damage, where as we can't. And two, they'll know if it can be fixed or is worth fixing. To have it checked shouldn't cost anything anyway, and they can also give you a guesstimate of how much it will cost to fix the thing should it be needed. Best option for you I would think. :/ Let us know anyway.
Yeah, sounds as if it could be fixed, but like another said, try simply taking it somewhere instead of attempting it yourself, they should be able to help you.
