So... I took out the can of coke from the freezer. It's pretty cold. Hopefully not frozen. It hasnt been in there insanely long, but then I looked around my kitchen for something I could possibly eat too.
I saw a box with packets of Oatmeal. I assume that they are fairly new considering there are so many packets in there. and the packaging doesn't have that "old" feel to it. And then it dawned on me. I forgot how to make oatmeal.

Well, I guess i have to read the box. Or experiment.. whatever I feel like.

I hope we still have those colored sugar crystals so i can put it into my oatmeal like i did when i was a kid.

I also enjoyed the oatmeal that had the dinosaur eggs which when eating would disintegrate into mini dinosaurs of various colors. Those were so cool.

I know! It made me want to have oatmeal every morning. But my mom wasn't always up or able to make us oatmeal every day. And since I was a younging I didn't know how.

This oatmeal is good. I think I'm going to grab some more green sugar crystal (not sprinkles)

well, you see, things "stay good" for years in this how. Like abottle of old salad dressing is good for quite a few years. I'll see if I can find the oldest bottle right after I'm done with my oatmeal and post back here. Also, the packaging is differnt from year to distant year. Knowing my family, we probably have a package of oatmeal at the bottom of our "junk food" box from way back when that looks really old and feels different.

I guess you can say it feels different because it's more... "stiff" because it hasn't seen any action lately.... (lol)

I bet my spit is going to be green when I spit in the sink while brushing my teeth soon.

    *checks fridge*

well, I found cherries that are opened and are "best if used by:" October 3, 2003.

    Hurray.

I guess my mom cleaned out the fridge recently. Oldest thing I could find that was a salad dressing was Aug 2007.

May 2006 for Smuckers strawberry syrup..

we have a box of jell-o mix that expires Jan 6, 2004.

and there was also a jell-o pouched that i think is a real old-schooler. The words are all blocked-letters and there are cherrys on it and there's a white background. I'll see if I can find a pick of what it looks like, but I can't even find the expiration date on it.

PLus I do understand that powder mix may not be the best example, but still. I don't like holding on to this after their expiration date.

Apparently. I remember when I almost caught the microwave on fire when I tried popping popcorn. It seems I forgot the first instruction: Take off the plastic.

That reminds me of a funny story.
There's a local chinese retaurant (which is the best place in the world to have chinese food. It happens to be one of the top 100 chinese restaurants in the US. Or did. It was sophomore year it officially did. Which was two years ago. So they're still up there obviously.)
But anyway. They have an actual reastaurant. No buffet. YOu can also order take out and my mom did that one night and I put my dinner box in the microwave. Little did I realize that the box it was in was actually metal. (It was a take home dinner box. They seriously have those asian dinner boxes which is so cool!)
So I took off the plastic cover, and then i took off the staples they used to make sure the container was closed. I took off the staples because I didn't want to microwave to catch fire. So I put in the box and let it go. Then I go back into the kitchen about 30 seconds later and the inside was on fire!

I took out the box and put out the fire. sadly, a piece fell on the tooththat helps close the microwave and i almost kicked myself in the butt cause we had just gotten the microwave, but at least the tooth thing melted in a way that it didn't affect the closing. I was so scared. I also happened to burn a whole in the container that should've been past it's expiration date anyway so we threw that out.

I thought it was funny cause I took out the staples to prevent the fire but didn't realize the container was actually metal itself. Or had some metal lining r soemthing.

    That's so nice. :'D

I burned a hole through a large plastic bowl when I tried making carmel popcorn...I guess I have a problem trying to heat that stuff up.

    SERIOUSLY.

As soon as I read that post I was hit with waves upon waves of nostalgia.

    Dinosaur oatmeal ftw.

Also lol, apparently you're supposed to keep an eye on popcorn as it pops in the microwave and I didn't the one time I tried making some, and my popcorn burned xD The house smelled awful for days afterward.
