I am unsure if that is a good thing or not.

    Why thank you~

But if you're a vampire and you sit cross-legged, wouldn't you be hurting yourself?

    Why hello there, dear Teddy.

Hmm, perhaps you have a point though it better not be attached to a stake. I shall instead just kneel here and assess how tasty you all look.

You should be worried, very worried indeed.

Is that so? You know nothing of me, you insignificant creature.

    Oh you care? How sweet.

That may have worked some other time but it's Midnight now and that time is mine,
So come out and play if you dare but I play to win so tread with care.
The stars shine bright and give me power, you can't beat me with that silly tower,
So go on now and make your choice, or have you now lost your voice?

Anyone wanna help an idiot (me) figure out a physics problem for homework, pertaining to electricity?

My father's an electrician, so I might know something. Also Midnight is studying physics in University. Take your pick?

    I'll just post it.

A particle having a positive charge of 2.0 x 10^-6 C experiences an upward force of 8 N when placed at a certain location in space. What is the magnitude and direction of the electric field at that point? What would be different about your answer if the particle possessed a negative charge of 2.0 x 10^-6 C?

Damn I should be able to do this but it's 1am and I've not done this for a while, so my mind's not working properly. Are you sure this is all the information we have? Because in terms of direction, the electric field would be on the horizontal plane and if it was negative it would be the opposite direction to it but I don't seem to have enough information to tell you more than that. As for magnitude, I thought F=BQv but we only have two factors to take into consideration. Hmm, it's late and my mind's not working properly. If there's no rush, I'd like to have another go at this when I'm actually awake.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I'm looking at magnetic fields. F=EQ, that's how you do it.

That's exactly how the problem is worded in my text book. The work is due tomorrow, and this is literally the last problem I have left.

    Yeah, I'm an idiot. I was thinking magnetic fields. F=EQ so E=8/2.0 x 10^-6, I don't have a calculator handy.

Also for the direction, the direction of the electric field is the same as the direction of the force it would exert on a positively-charged particle, and opposite for a negatively charged particle.

I'm going to get some sleep before I'm sleeping in tomorrow's lectures, hope that helped.
