Guys, someone has apperantly introduced me to some sort of new term, I have no idea what it is at all, it's called "swallowing". Can someone explain? I know what the white dragon is, but I've never heard of swallowing, what does it mean?

 

Well I think it's when you use the muscles in your throat to help the food go down to your gut. :\ Makaze can explain it better than me.

Swallowing, known scientifically as deglutition, is the process in the human or animal body that makes something pass from the mouth, to the pharynx, and into the esophagus, while shutting the epiglottis. If this fails and the object goes through the trachea, then choking or pulmonary aspiration can occur. In the human body it is controlled by the swallowing reflex. In other words, you have been doing it unconsciously your whole life until now.

The nature of your question is very context-dependent. What object or substance was being "swallowed" in the conversation that you heard it in?

 

Silly Chris. A swallow is a bird that lives in your stomach and swallowing is when it dives down your throat to get there.

 

I do not know what the context was actually, they just asked me if I had ever swallowed and I was like "wut?", not knowing what they meant at all.

So... Do they want me to go out, find a bird and swallow it? There are too many answers here D: i need halp
