To be fair, Rock's and Astaroth's styles are the exact same thing basicly.

They were originally, but in IV at least they felt radically different. As in; I was actually capable with Rock, but not with Astaroth.
Still butthurt over the loss of Zasalamel though.

 

Yeah, Zasalamel being gone was such bullcrap. Why couldn't they just say he died and reincarnated again at the end of SC4 and make him younger? He does start out young everytime he reincarnates, right? Still, would have made sense!

 

Yeah, when he dies he's almost instantly reborn in a new body, with his old memories intact. I believe he died somewhere in the time gap, but if that was only a few years ago then obviously we can't have four-year-old Zasy coming in to fight.

 

That's why saying he died at the end of SC4 would be great! He'd come back at 17 years old. We've had younger!

4 year old Zasalamel? Dear god, it'll be Yoda all over again.

Also, the crossover in SC4 was f(guitar riff)ing stupid.

 

How so?

 

First off: Lightsabers can cut through anything, so why can't they cut through a steel katana? And don't tell me it's because of a differnt galaxy. In the intro they were cutting rocks, rocks can still break steel.

Second: The Star Wars galaxy is, and I'm quoting here, far, far away. How the hell did they get to our galaxy? Last I check there is a total of one species that are capable of intergalactic travel. Guess what? They only show up way after The Empires defeat. So how did Vader, Yoda, and Starkiller get to Earth? Magic?!

Third: Why Star Wars?

 

Anything? What about Cortosis? And that was explained via saying the metals in the Soul Calibur world have similar properties.

Intergalactic travel was explained in the minicomic online. A wormhole opened up in space, and Vader ordered Starkiller to go in and find the source of power that was causing it (IE: Algol and the Soul Blades), and bring them back. Shortly afterwards, the Emperor ordered him to do the same thing. Yoda followed them because he couldn't risk them getting that kind of power.

Because The Force Unleashed was coming out soon, and they decided to have them as the guest characters to both promote that, and get more buyers of SCIV due to Star Wars being such a huge thing worldwide.

 

...Okay! You got me there. Still kinda stupid.

 

Isn't that the best possible reason? Though it depends on how you classify "prestige".

 

If they hadn't explained it at all, I'd agree, but it's All There In The Manual if you know where to look for this stuff.
