Ah, I stand corrected.

I strongly feel that getting him to concentrate by denying him privileges if he does not is far better than stigmatizing him. Especially at a young age where he will develop the idea he needs medication, that there is something wrong with him outside of his control.

Yes, like most adults now that I think about it.

 

By junior high he had decided to start weaning off the pill. It took him quite a few years, but he can focus pretty well when he needs too. He only uses his concentration pill now when he needs a boost.

 

I hope it doesn't affect him too much. The earlier on conditioning occurs, especially chemical conditioning, the worse the recoil later.

 

That falls flat on anybody that enjoys anime, but doesn't watch the older shonen series.

 

Well, I just asked him and he says that the concentration pill sometimes makes him feel emotionless, antisocial and have a lack of hunger. He says it's a tool to be used at certain times and places. For example, it should be used to help with school and times when you absolutely need to focus. Don't use it when you know you're doing something you can do yourself very well, like art and at social occassions when you need to be yourself. He says the concentration pill isn't a bad thing, just helps sometimes.

And I was mistaken, he stopped using it so much in highschool, not junior high.

I mean the overall affect it had on his emotional development and the way he handles things, not so much the dependency. If he was on them a lot as a kid, and it did those things, it would affect his emotional development quite a bit.
