I use laptops for pointless stuff or research. But I still read books. I think people need to read more and stop relying on a computer for everything. Especially those e-books that they have now. Seriously, how hard is it to pick up a book and read it? Not hard at all. People are just getting super lazy.

This reminds me of a quote:
Eventually, computers will be portable and cheap enough to replace books completely, with much greater efficiency. That'll be a good day. :D

I just watched Eagle Eye last night. There's this creepy computer that wants to eliminate the President and everything. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if something went wrong and computers wanted to kill people ^^; Other than that, I think relying too much on technology is kinda wrong. Laziness doesn't get people anywhere, and if people are too lazy to flip a page in a book, wow.

That's not really the matter of it. Think of a kindle. That little machine, alone can carry a lot of e-books. Meaning that you could have your very own library in a compact machine. It's not about just flipping a page...it's about convinience. Not everyone can go around lugging books, much less some university books that are huge. Heck even some in HS are a little over the top.

So it's not about just flipping a page.

I was joking about the Eagle Eye part xD But I understand the convienence factor of it, I'm just saying. What makes it so difficult for people nowadays to carry books compared to our parents and generations before? We're just as capable. But I know that technology is changing. Not everyone can afford a laptop, and they'll just get more and more expensive as technology keeps improving. Finding a cheap laptop nowadays is difficult. And people can find books for a lot less money. It's old-fashioned, yes. But if we lose everything to technology, it won't be good. We have to stay traditional on some stuff, and people are taking a lot of stuff for granted. I say, use it when you need it, but other than that, just stick with old school stuff.

A lot of things I would have said have already been mentioned by numerous people here so I'll just add something what I think is new (didn't bother to read the whole thread).

This is an argument from the perspective of a gift and only usable as such: most people will only ever need one laptop at a time. A laptop is a dangerous thing to give because people might already have one or something that fulfills a similar function.
Books cover a wide range of uses and functions, from a novel over a cookbook to an encyclopedia. It is safer to give a book as a gift.
Also, it has more of a personal touch to it and is less expensive. :p

That's about what's best to give, I'm in a pickle about what's best to receive so I will not answer that. Then again, I myself would be happier with a book because I already have a laptop.

One more incredibly stupid point for books: They make good weapons.
Ever been hit on the head with a door stopper-novel? Yeah, it hurts. Especially if someone actually puts some force on to the hit >.<

A laptop would probably hurt more, if you got hit edge-on. It'd be more expensive, though...

If Laptops wern't so popular, we wouldn't.
I bet we would perfer the book.

    It just matters what book.

Because some of us certainly can't afford it.
    I know I can't.

But if you asked someone if they got a Mercedes for free, they certainly wouldn't say no.
Laptops are given away like that.

But if someone came up to you, that looked persuading to not sound fake, and tell you that they would give you a Mercedes for free?

    Another good point.
There are many different kinds of Laptops.
    Dells, Panosonic, etc.

If Laptops/Mercedes/Whatever wasn't as expensive, or valuble, people wouldn't do exactly what you said.
Do anything for it. Like knock down their Credit Score for years.

Exactly the point is, books are better, since they don't do anything to your Credit Score. :]

You changed the subject. I don't understand what you're talking about. Mercedes was the laptop, and Peugeot was the book. Not mercedes and peugeot are different types of laptops

Did you think of that alone or did someone else help you?
