How many serious "your final grade depends on this project" papers have you done?

Because if you have done at least one or two you'd know that this is not true. AT ALL. :/
Also, with a book you have an amazing thing called an INDEX and TABLE OF CONTENTS.
While using a search engine they just dump links at you.
    Hm.

    First, wat.

I really don't know what most of your post says, sorry.

Yeah, you can LOOK UP books you may need, but you still need to physically get them.
Er...if your friends are online only...yeah. I don't really need to explain that, do I? D:

I use an amazing thing called magazines to find about new music and everything else I'm interested in. Most of the time they come out long before the information hits the web.

I didn't mean trivial information that you're gonna copy-paste on to some project, I meant knowledge that's gonna possibly last through your entire life. Proper writing and grammar for instance. No offense, but picking up a book every now and then wouldn't hurt you.
Books can help you find a moral code that's suited best for yourself, they can completely change the way you look at life. They can make you go through so many different emotions, from joy to sorrow, from hope to utter despair. They can liven up your imagination, even make you smarter. I doubt I'd know half the things I did had I not read as much as I did.

Also, WHAT IS WRONG WITH USING A STANDARD, TABLE-TOP COMPUTER? (apparently modern technology vocabulary can't be learned from Lord of the Rings xD)
You have all the same programs on the computer, maybe even the more space on the hard drive. The only inconvenience is that the computer isn't portable.

Fine. Books give more information that your average website.

Thus you can go online and get the book. Now you've got both, but on the laptop. ctrl + F is your friend.

I chose laptop, even though I love books too. I'm just not as big of a reader than like my sister Divine_Lunatic or something. But I do like wasting my time more on computers. But I must say. Most of the article like in wikipedia, get their information of books. Well yeah, if the article is about a manga or an anime or something like that, then they don't really read books to check information (except if there's a book about the series). But if someone makes an article of something historical, lets say, I think they check out the information from books. Except if they make something up... :/
But still, I chose laptops over books 'cause surfing over the internet is what I do best ^^

    Please, do define 'many'. Please

I've only found one book on the internet that I have previously read. I've never found anything, apart from this one book, that's even remotely close to my taste.

And I for one am allowed on a computer for only a few hours a day. And there's no way in hell that my parents would allow me to be reading on a computer at 2 am. Much easier to sneak a book and a flashlight under your blanket, and be almost completely silent. And staring at a computer screen for hours straight can't be too good for ones eyes...

In my opinion, this isn't a competition. Have any of you seen the latest cover for the New Yorker magazine?

I love the cover, because it shows how reliable technology actually is when it comes to something that lasts long. Do you know how easily a laptop or iPod or cell phone is broken? Just drop it in some water, and it's gone. Drop a book into some water, sure, the pages are wet, but if you let it dry, you might still be able to read it. Drop an electronic device off a cliff, and it breaks. Drop of a book off a cliff, and if you happen to be at the bottom of the cliff when it falls, you are still easily able to use it for what it is meant to be used for: reading.

Sure, the computer has the internet, but it's not always the most reliable source. To get a book out there, it has to be worthy of being published. If a book has passed the test of a publisher and editor, it is more reliable than a website (because anybody can make a website and post whatever information they want on it).

True, they are used for different things. The internet is used for connecting with people you couldn't otherwise communicate with and books are meant to teach. I just think a book is so much more meaningful. When you open a book, it is an entire world of ideas and words. It is someone's blood, sweat and tears on paper, it is their life, it is their thoughts, it is them. There's so much more you can take away from a book than a laptop. It is true that you can read books on the computer, but it is not the same. What sounds more relaxing than curling up with a book, a true, physical book, and hearing the crinkle of the page as it turns, smelling the whiff of the paper, whether it be new or old? What about the black ink that makes up the words?

A laptop can be so easily disposed of, but books are eternal.

Maybe, but do you enjoy the forums? Do you enjoy playing games? Do you enjoy video games? Do you?

All of them, can be found on a laptop, not in a book. I for one, do LOVE books, and have read many, but I think surfing the web is more fun.

I'd say books. because they take you to wonderous lands of adventure & such. You just can't get the same feeling from a computer.

The options are in no way related. If I want to read, I use a book. If I want to goof off and do pointless postings like this one, I will. I use each equally and involve two totally different mindsets.

Tv, novels, music, video games, and internet on a laptop are APPLICATIONS.

LISTEN NOW. YOU CANNOT GET THOSE THINGS AUTOMATICALLY WITH A NEW LAPTOP.

YOU PEOPLE SAYING U CAN GET THIS AND THAT ON A LAPTOP ARE IDIOTS. LIKE CATCH SAID. A LAPTOP IS A GATEWAY TO THESE THINGS.

IF U STILL SAY U CAN GET THESE THINGS ON A :NEW: LAPTOP THEN STFU

Please leave & Don't come back until you have something intelligent to say. If you want to respond, at least do it properly. You think your silly caps have any effect...well, yes. They make you look like an idiot who cannot apply an intelligent response. Now, would you kindly, leave and think upon your actions?

    End thread.

No, but seriously. You say the Laptop is a gateway, and that the internet and such are applications.

So isn't a light source an application? You need a light-source to read. And if you need a stand, that too could be considered an application. To write a pen is required, that can also be considered an app.

So the gateway argument somewhat fails to amount agaisnt a laptop, because it can also be applied to the book. I myself prefer to feel a book in my hands, but if we go by the fact that both need applications to function(unless you can read in total darkness.) The laptop has a much more vast & easier way to do such things presented here.

Besides, the book is a more concentrated knowlegde, as most books only focus on one thing, and the internet is more dispersed. Each one with it's pro's & con's

Truth be told, we can easily find a book through the internet...without even having to leave our homes(which seems convinient) but a sole book can't do that.

In the end...both have their Reedeming, and contradicting points.
