Looking to get one sometime this year. Won't be my main computer; that's my future desktop. Still want a pretty good laptop that can play a few games on better-than-shit graphics with good performance; for instance: League of Legends, Payday 2, and if possible, Fallout 3/New Vegas and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

    Price range: up to $900.

(Lemme know if this thread needs to be moved too.)

Misty, you are up. Bring your knowledge to the table. The most I can say is Alienware, but since I've heard they were bought by Dell, I've also been told to go away from them....though that's only my dad, and he claims it's because of them using cheap factory parts, but I don't know a thing, so I still take his word for it a lot.

Only thing I've heard about Alienware is that they're overpriced and not worthy of the PC Master Race.

Alienware is a hell no. My friend has an Alienware laptop and already advises none of us to get one. Sure they're good, but you can easily get the same performance and graphics with a different name and cheaper price. Alienware is paying for a brand.

Just in general, or specific models?

Libre gave you some good links. HP laptops do have overheating issues (I have one) but that's really true of most laptops these days. Because we're trying to make them smaller and smaller, heat dissipation isn't as good. If you're gaming at a desk you might want to invest in a cooling pad.

Just get the one that has the most backlighting and is either gun metal grey or carbon black cause it's a proven fact that those ones perform up to 100% besterer.

Pretty much in general. It's just the way they build their laptops. (speaking from experience).

I have an Acer, with similar specs like the one that libre posted, and it plays WoW beautifully. And if you really don't like windows 8, there's so many different things you can install that will make it seem like you don't even have it. I just use classic shell, which gives me a start menu like windows 7 and below had, and most of the time I forget I even have WIN8.

To be honest for everyday use and some gaming... I doubt you'll notice the difference between 8GB of RAM and 12GB.

Will I notice a difference whenever we finally get around to upgrading my RAM from two gigabytes to four gigabytes? :D
