has anyone notice more ppl are have that lady gaga type of fashion? for example no one wore really outragious outfits to grammys or anything but since lagy gaga came its really out there now. also lady gaga is known for her wig no one really wore outragious wigs like her but now we got kate perry and nicki minaj wearing the most weirdest wigs. and since lady gaga wore her well known black lip stick so are other pop stars example is kesha. im not trying to be mean but it just seems more ppl aare dressing like lady gaga now. thoughts?
Imo it's trashy. I'm all for individuality and whatnot but there are ways to accomplish that than doing things like dressing in meat, acting like a total whore, or bathing in glitter. There's a line between individual and trash which has been more or less crossed by every "modern" pop idol. Honestly people rage about video games causing kids to be violent (lol) and meanwhile they're fine with their kids listening to music and watching music videos that involve barely-clothed women auto-tuning singing about sex and booze.
It's not anything new. Lady Gaga really is the Madonna of our generation; the reason she is so popular for it is because of the shock factor. We've never seen or heard anything like it. That's why artists like Katy Perry and Ke$ha, who simply imitate her, aren't really as much of a big deal. Some of what Lady Gaga does might freak me out and I may not agree with it, but the music industry is a business. She's doing what she needs to to stay on top.
As long as people don't start wearing meat dresses I'll be alright. On a more serious note, I like her fashion sense, it's whacky and weird, I'd never wear it but it's different. Personally I love different, I love to see people standing out for whatever they like. It may change the fashion industry, well it already has and I don't think it's for the worse, it just means there's another style out there. The fashion style doesn't suit certain people but for Lady Gaga, it's her thing and it defines her. Many people look up to her and so copy it. I don't see anything wrong with it until it gets way too out of hand.
Little Monster here to help. It is part couture (She wears a lot of big designer names and also underground boutique designers across the globe). The meat Dress was actually an extension of a meat bikini she wore for vogue japan (a double cover edition with the other cover having her in drag) It was for shock factor and her excuse of feminism was last minute bullshit to defend it. Honestly her best reason would have been to say "It's no more crueller than leather but you all accept that as fashion aand this as dinner" and the true offense was more from her wearing it on the Ellen show than on MTV (Ellen is a big vegetarian so it clearly offended her but the interview was recorded directly after the show so that was...meh). She knows the industry well, she has spent two years trying to make it before she did in 2008 so she knew that channeling madonna would work very well and it has. She raised a bar and broke a barrier that only people like madonna could do and keep commercial success (so now everyone pushes out this new ground to keep up). I will make one very sharp point. She CAN sing. I was there in person three times and I know what miming looks like and she is horrendous as miming, she is live with backing track for dance songs (she sings over the backing track which covers up when she is out of breath for dancing, many popstars use it) and 100% raw and live with her piano ballads. She also can write excellent pop songs. The lyrics are her 100% and she makes good dance pop hits but she has good variety in her work. I love most of her fashion, people say it all for attention but its not. Even when the paps aren't obviously there she still dresses oddly as part of her persona as she is an entertainer and it is part of why fans like her. She may dress skimpy sometimes but its not for people to fap over (her fanbase is gay oriented and she supports them regularly) in reality dressing skimpy is a form of feminism. Why must we dress drab to make a point? I will be in skimpy clothes because I like them, not because men like it. We don't question men being provocative as much (they can talk about sex and dress as lazy or as smart as they please and not get as brutally judged but women get called whores for being openly sexual). Theres a lot of provocation annd thats a good thing in art and fashion, if you never push the envelope you'll never get anywhere.
I think she's just trying to get MORE attention. Lady Gaga will wear a lobster and call it fashion. She really aggravates me to be honest. She acts like she can't stop. Example, when she went to that baseball game dressed up for attention and she got all P.O'd when everyone recognized her. She asked for it and then acts like she didn't want it. I just hate this woman and could go on forever on how she dresses so I'll stop before I get carried away. As far as other celebrities... Katy Perry always had a different sense of fashion and it's plausible which makes me want to rant about how celebrities can't just be themselves. Lady Gaga is unfortunantly(for me) very popular and it wouldn't surprise me if other celebrities did this so they could get back in the spotlight.
I definitely agree. However, there are alternatives to the same genre of music which generally talk about other things. EDIT: On top of that, I think Imogen Heap defines eccentric fashion at its fullest. Not to mention her originality *cough* Jason Derulo *cough cough*
Like Bubble Master Califa said, she has complete reason for wearing the type of clothes she wears. Back when she first became popular, everyone was wondering why she didn't wear pants but instead wore leotards. Around that time OK! magazine (I think it was OK!...) published an article about how Lady Gaga doesn't wear pants and in the article, it said that she does that because her mom is blind but can 'see' people's skin. Lady Gaga's mom knew how her legs were long (I think that's what they said...) and so she decided to not wear pants so her mom would know whenever she was visiting her.
Lady Gaga tries too hard to be edgy and unique and it's just laughable. All the people copying her copying Madonna is just funnier.
This. I completely agree with Misty. Lady Gaga is basically our Madonna. And like she said, various other artists copy her because they think, 'Hey, everybody loves Lady Gaga so if I mimic her, I'll be more popular.' When in reality, some people don't think that her fashion is stupid. Besides, they should try and be original while looking normal. But Misty beat me to the punch though. :I
