Nonsense! Swimming Anime with Vaguely Homoerotic Undertones will be a masterpiece of animation and story. A subversive, clever deconstruction of fanservice in today's anime industry, it will end with shota having an existentialist crisis after he kills off everyone else through his own negative thinking and insecurities and later comes to terms with his individuality and free will as not simply an object of pandering but a true human being. Tsundere appears and shota tries to strangle him in a representation of the strangehold of the anime industry in regards to pandering but they eventually come to terms with existence as the only two humans still living and eventually jump into the sea of red blood like dolphins and swim off into the sunset as KyoAni mails middle fingers and copies of yaoi Swimming Anime doujin to the Japanese Olympic Swimming team.

I already don't like it. The show appears to be aimed towards heterosexual females... which would be OK. Said audience finds male-on-male interaction action 'hot.' Which would be OK. But when the question of Why aren't there any female swimmers? is posed, the fanbase explodes. They don't want females to distract from the main course; Ho Yay. The message is clear as day: women can't be queer as well, and if we follow that train of thought then it relates that women in media must adhere to the heteronorm.

    No thank you.

This is the fetishization of homosexuality in practice.
Yes, this matters to me. This annoys me.

tl;dr another annoying fandom has been birthed into existence, what's new

I'm kinda looking forward to it just to see what blows up on the internet.

I'm really hoping it'll be like Madoka Magica and like three episodes in the whole show gets f*cking subverted.

Actually, it's much more common to see gay girls in animu these days so... Yeah.

Really? It seems I haven't watched enough anime then. High amounts of fanservice turn me off.

I mean, all things that focus on the fanservice are pretty much terrible but it pretty much goes both ways is all.

To be fair, a great plot can make even the most egregious cases of fanservice bearable.

    A good story helps too.

That already happened. It's called K-On![DOUBLEPOST=1367042026][/DOUBLEPOST]
Sekirei comes to mind easily. Fan service almost ruined it for me, but the second half of the first season really won me over. And thankfully, it seems that they toned down on the fan service in the second season and really focused on the plot.

    KyoAni also did K-On.
This is going to be like K-On but instead of not playing music, they're going to be not swimming.

    Exactly.

It's just more noticeable now since it's something that's aimed at females; totally different than the main audience who watches anime (in the west at least). It's okay to have overly moe girls that do absolutely nothing but to have overly moe guys that just piss around for a couple of seasons, that's wrong? Don't get me wrong, both of them are bad ideas, but they should be treated equally.

Granted, I can't make any judgement against the man service show since i haven't watched it yet.

I mean, the fact that they were doing it not once, not twice, but three times in a row basically is what irks me.
