Honestly, 12 hours of gaming for a fatality is rather pathetic, when you think about it, as most commenters have already pointed out. There was clearly another factor involved, and the video games are getting blamed for it.

I find that hard to believe. There has to be something else involved. Video games cannot kill anyone.

Sleep deprivation can, as can stress, although twelve hours shouldn't be enough to do that to him. He may have had some pre-existing condition, or it was something else that killed him, and the video gaming was merely a coincidence.

12 hours is simply not long enough for this to be the video games in any way. The guy even took a break to eat, so he wasn't being stupid about it. Heck I've done longer gaming sessions than that where I didn't eat.

And truly, even in the case of the cause of death being related to someone excessively playing videogames (dehydration, caffeine poisoning, etc.) I don't think it would be fair to blame video games for it. It is the person's choice to do that to themselves, they just failed to see that it was a bad idea. I mean if a person goes running too long on a hot day and has heat stroke we don't start saying that exercise is bad.

Well since it is a online shooting game, there is going to be lot of flashing lights and things( Of course after using all those machine guns). And maybe this guy had Epilepsy. Maybe he simply had a seizure or something and was left alone for too long because epilepsy attacks can be fatal or cause severe brain damage if left untreated too long. :[ Thats why some games have warnings about things like that.

Sounds like another article the bellowing onslaught of Anti-Gaming Nazi parents will use to get back at their teenage kids with.

Twelve hours alone aren't enough to kill anybody, and these are even broken. Remember the Final Fantasy XI incident? A group of players trying to defeat one of the bosses spent eighteen hours straight - no breaks - before they started being sick or passing out. But this guy died after twelve? His video gaming addiction is absolutely terrible, yes, but there's obviously another condition involved.

Hoh? Do you have a link to that FFXI incident? It sounds interesting.

12 hours isn't enough, especially because he took a break, like most of the comments said on Kotaku; he probably had some sort of medical condition. :/

I honestly think that he must of had some kind of epilepsy because 12 hours of gaming cannot kill the average gamer. Without a doubt, there is some kind of hidden factor envolved.

    Cheers.

Those articles feel a tad unfair. One of the members said this:

Yet they've become a horror story anyway. They were responsible with how they acted, and they stopped when they realised the risks, so it doesn't seem right to hold them up as an example of video gaming evil when they purposefully tried to avoid that.

This guy probably DEFINITELY had some sort of medical condition. There's no way the a 12 hour gaming session, with a break, could possibly kill anyone unless there was another factor being included.
