yeah it does work without it but when I have it on I cant even load up my saved file

 

Try waiting a little longer,it might work.
Sometimes it also happens to me,and i stay waiting for 3 to 10 minutes and it works.

 

what happens is the music will play and it will stay black

Hold L1 when the screen goes black after the cutscene ends, and release L1 when the fight loads
