Got some good progress on ARDs! It seems there is a "path" that usually (always, so far) leads to the string table. I have a program now that can get there, and begin dumping. It does break, because of how this is read, but I'll get it! ;) Big thanks to root670, your program was quite helpful in finding the format!

Crazycatz, I'm wondering if once you're done translating the main game, you'd be interested in doing some text changing for a mod i'm making?

The part that i need text changed for is keyblades, because i'm adding abilities to them.
Example: (The keyblade descriptions are in the quotation marks, because i doubt theres enough room to add exactly what the abilities do. The ability descriptions will be in the readme file)

Divine Rose
"Abilities: Cure Slash"
Sora gains 2HP for every successful attack
Strength lowered by 3 (13 down to 10)
MP lowered by 1

(Yes, this means we have on-hit procs. This can include things like "5% chance to increase speed by 25% when you land an attack"

Olympia
"Abilities: Propulsion"
Increases the distance covered by aerial attacks

One Winged Angel
"Abilities: Critical Impact, Sprint"
Equip Critical Plus x5
Increases sora's run speed by 75%

Metal Chocobo
"Abilities: Massive Impact, MP Lock, Negative Combo"
Sets MP to 1
Reduces Ground Combo length by 1
Reduced Air Combo length by 1
10% chance to increase Sora's strength by 7 for 5 seconds

 

At that point, you could probably do it yourself. ;) I'm going to release my tools once I feel they work consistently enough.
And wow, the possibilities with this. Is it assembly hacking or something? Also, that One Winged Angel; best ability. :p

 

Right now it's with conditionals, but me and truthkey are going to try making a custom PCSX2 that has all of this built in.
Conditional codes are too unreliable, and only have If, not If, Else. Not having Else causes conditional codes to not turn off if the condition is not met, even if you set a second conditional that says "When address X is NOT equal to Y, disable conditional code"

Also, a teaser for one of the more intense abilities:

Ultima Ragnarok
When Ultima Weapon is equipped you may cast Ragnarok from your shortcuts menu.
This costs 3 MP and 11HP, however it can still be cast for HP if your MP is zero.

If you release your tools and it's just a simple string edit (or a tutorial on where the text is located) then yeah, i can do it myself.


NOTE: This mod is a level 1 mod. If you want to experience all of the extra content, you also have to be able to clear level 1 stuff.

 

Oh i have somthing else to say. What about the unused voices that play in Kingdom Hearts. Like I know sephiroth has a ton of unused quotes. Could that be possible for them to use them. Im guess they were used with certain attacks that didnt make it in the final version. Like he says "close". My guess he could say that when he swings his sword at you or he teleports.
Just saying whats on my mind.

I am pretty sure that 60fps patch creates a whole new experience. Thanks again to the person that found it. You just got closer to creating the optimum gameplay. It will keep the game alive for many years. Just gotta spread the word now lol

And I have a working ARD string extractor! Haven't started on the packer yet, as this took me much of the day, though.
Usage is simple, drag the ARD onto the program; It will make 3 text files of hex codes, which could be put into my online string mapper.
It also has some basic error-checking, where if the last line it outputs isn't what it expects it will warn you. (The last English line is normally "Obtained Postcard.", the last FM line "ミのパーティアビリティを覚えた".)
Note that the txt format will not change once I make the extractor. You could start translating now, and save the translated txt's 'till I get the ARD packer together. ;)

You can change the pnatch to a codebreaker code. Although the Ps2 may or may not. I am guessing because it the limiter in the game engine there could be jumps all over the place in framerate. I just noticed it from the other thread. I wonder if I can use the remapper and move L2 and R2 to the right stick. It still won't be like Kh2 camera because that would require tweaking, but just move that stuff to the right stick is better.
