    Wow, I think I got it! sys.png syse.png
    Now I just need to make something that can convert back into this ----ing format, and we'll be good. I should have more news on this later tonight. ;)
    (For those interested, this font is a 4-bit image swizzled for the PS2; basically, it worked like this: http://gta.nick7.com/ps2/swizzling/swizzling_16x16.html where the blue square is the original pixel and the red square is the swizzled one)

    hm very well Crazycatz00, tell me some question:

    1º you extracor and repacker work perfectly?

    2º the text are same method like the string table from kh2?

    3º at the moment its only use the UPPERCASE caracter?

    So I'm going to post what I have so far:
    Updated my FM String mapper to v1.1 (Added a few more characters, mainly smart quotes): http://crazycatz00.x10host.com/KH/string mapping KH1.html
    Got the Kanji.knj font working perfectly: http://crazycatz00.x10host.com/KH/files/mod_FinalMixEnglishFonts.7z It uses the same character codes as the sysfont.bin font, so my string mapper will work on both fine.
    And finally I have translated the Ansem reports:
    (I'm not ready to release this file yet, but I will soon ;) )

    1. The extractor should work perfect, but the inserter may not. I haven't had any problems yet though. (Also note that there are still a bunch of nonames)
    2. Not quite. I know *.kmb files are text tables, but there's also text in other files (I can't edit these yet), and some text in the ELF file (have to hex edit these).
      For the text in KMB files, though, it's easy to work with. The spec is this:
      Code:
      uint32    # of strings
      for each string:
          char*?    KH1 character codes, NULL terminated
      For example: "01 00 00 00 35 98 00" is a KMB with 1 string: "Hi".
    3. I've fixed that now, we can use upper, lower, and the fancy Latin characters like à.
    Speaking of noname files, any help with the directions in this post is still appreciated! We're going to start hitting problems of the extractor not naming files we need to edit, once we get going.

    you can send for me the tool that work in *.kmb files?

    you tryed insert the eng files fron american version in the Final mix version? o told this because, it seen the xeeynamo make this, because have string loses with number 20145

    We should be able to, yes.

    I'm just hex-editing the KMB files, they're simple enough for it.
    As for the English files, I cannot just copy them over; the character codes are different. But I can put the English character codes in here, copy the "human readable" section to this, and use those character codes in the FM version. (I also fix the linebreaks, as some lines are too long with this method.)

    Could be possible. :P

    Gledson is a Brasiliero so excuse his English if you may. That's great news crazycat. If you can make it where you're just the programmer and you can get the translation work load to other people and create a team we could probably get this out by the time 1.5 HD comes out in US or at least after it :p. I don't mind we need an accuracy patch.

    What other text is in that file you've been hex-editing, anyway? Just journal entries? If there are abilities I will wrestle for control of the computer if I have to in order to translate that!

    Oh, there's nothing to apologize for, I just need to try a bit harder to fully understand what is being said sometimes. Between the clearly-foreign speakers, the poor typist, and the techno-speak I'm a bit lost on some things, lol. I'm just a simple American guy.

    That's my plan; make the tools work, and let others actually translate. I don't know Japanese myself, so I'm only useful for translating stuff in the US version and stuff on the wiki, lol. As for what I'm translating now... It's all in the US version\wiki, and might as well make something practical while making the tools. ;)
    As for the HD remix: PS2 Masterrace. :p

    No abilities yet; I want to say they're in the ELF, but not sure. All the stuff I found is journal related.

    Don't worry about it, as long as we can figure it out it's all good. ^^

    Close to releasing a batch of translated files, just 2 more I'd like to do to finish of the folder. Current journal state:

    Made 3 tools for working with "Message" text files: 1 to extract, 1 to repack, and 1 to inteli-repack. (Inteli-repack can make smaller files then Squre's orriginal ;)) There's only a couple Message files loose in the game, but I'm hoping other files use the same format. I'll post these tools once I've actually gotten something back into the game with them.

    For anyone messing with the ISO replacer tool, if you begin with a untouched ISO, make sure to delete "_IMGreplace-origSz.log". I forgot to, and got some funky bugs until I did. -.-

    And finally, can anyone here type in Japanese? If someone could type the kanji\whatever-else-it-uses, I could make another String mapper for it. That means we wouldn't be guessing when changing string lists (they can be in different orders in the US and FM version, so hard to port over). I can supply the fonts as normal images on request.

    Ok, no need for the Japanese characters anymore, I finished that little project. And thanks Wheel of Time for the Hiragana\Katakana!
    Thus there's a new string mapper version: http://crazycatz00.x10host.com/KH/string mapping KH.html
    This one can switch between our FM English font, the original FM SYS and EVT fonts, and the US font. It supports full Japanese in the SYS\EVT modes, or as much as I could get.
    Since I had to rewrite it to support 2-byte characters, I also made it easier to add fonts; I can add any font encoding that doesn't use more than 2-byte codes now (such as KH2 fonts :P) in just a few minutes, once I have the "0x21=0" list.

    Do note, the SYS and EVT fonts for Final Mix are slightly different. The same character codes in: (Don't ask me what they say, I just know that a character is different)

    EVT: どのキャラクターが外たい?

    Great work, as always! If I wasn't so bogged down with school and work, I'd have time to look at how text is stored in other files (like the ARD files and evm). I think I said something about this in an earlier post, but ARD files seem to be a collection of assets for various levels/rooms in the game. Most of them begin with 3D meshes for interactive (non-static) objects, like doors/crates/etc. There're strings near the end too that are used in the level, seems to include captions for NPC speech bubbles as well as cut scene subtitles.

    I know that feeling, just whatever time you can helps. And wonderful... more complex files to try to guess the format... :p Hopefully the strings are the last thing, so we can ignore the rest of it.

    Some more progress with Message files: My tools work! kh1fmjrnlsysfonteng.png I can see I need to fix the sysfont again, re-align some characters; and also find the command code to make text smaller width-wise (there was one in KH2, many codes are shared so far...).
    As a plus, my tools can make a file smaller then Square's. Their Japanese RAW file ("extracted" BIN file) is 8.67kb, my English one is 9.18kb; their BIN file (the game uses this) is 3.35kb, mine is 3.24kb. This only works if the same text is included multiple times, however.
    This is the last text file in the menu folder (that has a name), so this might be the end of the easy stuff for a bit. Too bad only the journal has nice files like this. -.-

    hey crazycatz00 can u translate the commond menu now and the main menu .I really would like to see that in English. Can u try it and post a video for us ? how much did u get done scine last night ?
