I just want to say to the people working on this patch, you're doing an amazing job! It's great to see people making this project a reality instead of waiting for someone else to do it. I'll be anticipating the final release![DOUBLEPOST=1366594100][/DOUBLEPOST]By the way, any chance that Hidden Smithery can release the most up to date version of the patch? I tried out the version posted awhile back and it works, but to be honest, it's not much (just the menu translated).

It's actually the menu and nearly all of the gummi pieces, actually. It was translated using the ISO directly instead of the method that's being used currently.

In any case, that is the last version that I have, unfortunately. Since then the font file was replace making pretty much all of my previous work pointless. The last thing released in the thread has been tools to extract and recompress the extracted files; if I understand everything that's been said correctly, no tool has, of yet, been made to actually edit the files themselves. I may be wrong, but that's my understanding.

    EDIT:
Okay, after making a futile effort to try to make some headway, I believe that I was correct. The main files themselves, at least some of them, have been ripped from the ISO. However, the data that is within those files (text, images, etc) have yet to be further ripped.
I'm not sure what patch you're talking about. If it's the one that I made by myself, the one that's hosted on Dropbox, the link has already been posted in the thread a few pages back.

Ah, I see. Oh well, I figured it was at least worth asking haha. I'm not in a rush to see this project updated or finished so take your time (if your not doing that already).

Got some extractors and packers for the IMG and BIN files (only works on the ones that are paired).
Gonna finish them up, expect them later.
Also going to post the updated main replacer that can replace files bigger then the original (with buffer).

    Edit:
And here's the tools. Drag and drop files onto them. Heads up, title.img is actually structured like a BIN, so use the BIN(IMG) tool on it.

I also have some unfortunate news. At least some of the strings are in the ELF file (SLPS_251.98) itself. For example: "E6 19 2D EF 19 24 19 06 19 10 FF 76", which is the Japanese equiv. of "CATERPILLAR-G", is in there. We can't change string sizes in the ELF, so we're stuck with what it gives us + any extra nulls that may be there (maybe).
Square really hard-coded some stuff in this game.....

    This isn't good.... >.<

Have you peeked at the elf file to see what other text is effected? I have a suspicion that it gummi pieces and Journal names..

You beat me too it lol. I made a program to extract the tm2 files from title.img, but didn't realize there were more files like it (which were .bins I guess). As for modifying the TM2s, I had issues getting them to compress back to a smaller file size if I added more than some really simple, repetitious stuff. Nevertheless, Optix iMageStudio seems to be the best tool to modify them, as it's officially used by developers.

Thanks for reminding me, attached IMGReplace (main IMG, not the extracted ones) that can add files even if they are bigger then the original (with buffer). It does this by appending to the end of the ISO, and correcting the IDX as such. (This also means each time you do this, the ISO gets bigger.)

Same program here; it was that or a 32-bit Photoshop plugin (I only have the 64-bit for size reasons).

I haven't really checked, but I'm assuming at least the Gummi-ship stuff is there.
If most of the text is there, we're going to have problems with this patch....
Actually, you were hex-editing most of this stuff... the ELF is guaranteed to be non-compressed in the ISO, so I wouldn't doubt if most of what you got was in there.

    Edit: Deleted horribly outdated attachment.

Hmm... Interesting. It might actually mean I didn't just waste all that time.

Well, right now, I believe we're just waiting for a way to edit the extracted files so that the translating can finally begin. It's just that one of our two main tol makers has a lot of stuff on his plate atm, so it's taking a bit longer than expected to do.

Hey guys. If you're actually attempting this I just want to say thanks :). I do have one question though. Would it be possible to port all high resolution textures and screens from KH 1.5 remix to the original game fore use on PCSX2? And I know this is a stretch, but would it also be possible to port the models too? These are just questions.

    Well, let's break it down.

Honestly it'd probably be easier to port the models themselves instead of the world textures.

You'd have to dump the files (models, etc) from the 1.5 ReMix's disc somehow before you could even attempt it. But, assuming (let's use Sora's new model for an example) that it has all the same bones as the old model, is the same file type, and was exported using the same animations as the old model, then that much should be possible. I'm sure that there would be some issues with the HD textures being used on a regular PS2 (it just wasn't made for that), but as for an emulator on (what I assume is) a superior machine... I have no idea.

The PCSX2 crew said that they couldn't be able to have a way to put HD textures on games like how the Dolphin Emulator could. So I was just wondering if it was possible to do it on a per game basis by editing the game internally.

Oh and last question :D Assuming if the above is true would it be possible to make the final mix game into the 1.5 similarly? eg. (Camera being mapped to R3, Triangle enabled special attacks, Summon command being move to 4th slot, and of course the remastered music)

I'm just working on assumptions, but this is what *I* personally believe to be true.

The remastered music may be able to work if it was formatted into the same file format as the originals; they'd just have to be reinserted into the game. They might suffer a bit and wouldn't sound exactly the same as their pure-Ps3-ness forms, but they SHOULD be a bit higher quality than the original.

As for the camera being remapped, triangle being changed functionally and the summon command being shifted.... I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with the game to answer that fairly.

See, if this were, for example, a game like Team Fortress 2 on the PC, menus and actions could be rebound/mapped easily and would be a few minutes' job, no sweat. However, based on how complex this game is programmed, and the fact that not much work has been done with the game by modders in the last decade, it would be an INSANE job to do without the game's source code, if it were even possible to do in the first place.

The most I could, with my limited knowledge, see being done is the summon option being moved to a theoretical 5th slot in the main command menu; as for HOW that could be done, without access to KH1:FM's source code (which is owned and held by the developers), I wouldn't know.

That's fine. I did enjoy the discussion though, things to just ponder about I guess. It makes sense though, because even though only two programmers worked on KH 1.5 remix they did have some sort of access to various tools. If there comes a day where someone can do that then I would be overjoyed but having you guys just working on translating this game to proper English along with fixing xeenaymo's KH2FM is good enough for me.

Don't even get me started on 1.5 ReMix. I appreciate the work that those two programmers did but they REALLY dropped the ball if they wanted to make the game more consistent with the other games in the series (barring CoM, as that was already updated once before). They could've done so much more to make it better than ever, and now there's no way to justify making those changes.

Another ponder for hidden smithy. If you are fixing the KH2FM english patch will you add the 358/2 Days script and RE:COM voices?
