Sora arched a brow, both surprised and appalled that Roxas would ask such a thing. "You're seriously asking me to let her go like that?" Sora questioned, his tone defensive as he looked at Roxas with piercing blue eyes.

 

Roxas gave Sora a firm look. "Yes," he answered simply. He noticed Sora's defensive tone, and Roxas was starting to form one of his own.

Kairi let her eyes flick back and forth between the boys, sensing that this was going to turn into something intense.

 

Sora furrowed his brows at Roxas' answer, the brunette not liking that response. How could he possibly ask him to let her go like that? "No," Sora said simply, shaking his head. "No, I'm not letting Kairi get in danger like that."

 

"I already told you; I won't let her out of my sight," Roxas said, his tone getting a little defensive. "I don't think you understand, Sora. Namine's in the hands of Smith." Roxas was starting to get frustrated. He wouldn't let any harm come to Kairi, didn't Sora understand that?

 

"I understand clearly, Roxas." Sora returned Roxas' defense with one of his own, his gaze not leaving the blonde. "I know how evil Smith is, and I'm not willing to put Kairi in the line of fire. It's too risky to let her close to this."

 

"Namine could die! Do you think I'm just going to let that happen?" Roxas asked, disbelief coming across his features. He understood where Sora was coming from, but did the brunet actually think that Roxas was going to go through with the exchange?

 

"Kairi could die!" Sora exlaimed, his voice rising slightly at Roxas' statement. "What's to stop Smith from keeping Namine and taking Kairi? We can't trust that he'll actually give Namine back to you, Roxas!"

 

"We can't trust him at all, Sora!" Roxas practically hollered. "You know that, I know that, and Kairi knows that! But that's not stopping me from saving Namine!" His piercing blue eyes glared back at the ones identical to them. "I'm not just going to stand around and let Smith do this!"

 

"If you know that and truely understand it, then you see how pointless it is to put Kairi in that position." Sora took a breath, trying to calm himself down. Some of his anger came through in his voice though, in the first statement and the next one he spoke. "Smith can't be trusted at all. As soon as he gets what he wants, he'll kill Namine anyway! We are not playing along with this whole exchange thing!"

 

Roxas blinked in shock at Sora's words. But he immediately grit his teeth together, his anger growing. "How can you say that?! You're not gonna help at all, and just let Namine be at the hands of that creep?!" The blond boy couldn't believe this. "What do you think I came to you for, huh?! To try and take someone you love away from you?! Well guess what, Sora? Smith already did that! To me! Do you expect me just to let him get away with it?!" Roxas' angry voice filled the room, the boy feeling frustrated tears come to his eyes.

Kairi winced silently at Roxas' tone. He was very upset, and the anger in him was showing greatly.

 

Sora stayed silent for a few moments, realizing he may have taken things a bit too far. "You're right, Roxas," Sora started out quieter than before, his eyes going to the floor. "Smith did take someone very dear away from you. And I'm sorry about that, I really am." Sora paused for a brief moment, raising his eyes back to Roxas. "But I'm not about to let that happen to me. I'd help you out in any other way, but I can't let Kairi be a part of this."

 

"She already is," Roxas declared, his voice a little lower, but that angered frustration still showed. He could feel hot tears coming to his piercing blue eyes, but they were coming slowly.

Kairi pressed her lips together. They were having this argument over her, but inside, she was siding with Roxas. She knew he wouldn't let any harm come to her, and besides, Namine was her best friend. She wasn't about to let that freak just take her because of her.

 

Sora lowered his gaze again, looking to the floor. "That may be..." Sora agreed softly. Kairi was already involved, since Smith had taken Namine as bait for Kairi. "But I'm still not letting her get anywhere near that man. There has to be some other way to make things right..."

 

Roxas shook his head as the tears slowly appeared. "There isn't..." he said sadly, but in frustration. His hands were clenched in tight fists, his knuckles white.

"Wait a second," Kairi cut in. She took a step forward so she stood next to both boys. "This whole thing is about me, and I'm not just going to let Namine be the decoy because of it."

 

Sora was surprised when Kairi suddenly stepped in, and he moved his gaze to her. What she said, it almost sounded like she was on Roxas' side. Was that even possible? "What do you mean, Kairi?" Sora questioned softly, not quite sure where she was going with this.

 

Roxas looked over at the redhead, just as confused as Sora was.

Kairi let her eyes fall on the piercing blue she loved. "I think Roxas may be right; it's not right to let Namine suffer because Smith wants me," she explained. "Maybe...we should listen to him."

 

Sora bit on his lip lightly, seeing where Kairi was coming from. Namine was a close friend of his too, but sending Kairi into Smith's clutches? "There has to be another way," Sora repeated, shaking his head at Kairi's statement. He knew that she wanted to help in anyway she could, but getting wrapped up with a false exchange could only end in disaster.

 

Roxas looked over at Sora. "Would you stop saying that?" His voice represented his despair and sorrow, as well as frustration. "You know that there's not," he said, his voice growing slightly.

Kairi turned her head to look at Roxas, his slightly louder voice in her ears. She put a hand on his shoulder. "Roxas, relax," she advised softly.

 

Sora didn't see much point behind Kairi's efforts, but he made no comment about it. Roxas had already snapped once tonight, and Sora wouldn't be surprised if it happened again. He looked to the floor for a moment before looking over at Roxas and Kairi again. "This is no guarentee, anyway," Sora said quietly, looking at Roxas now. "Even if we did play along with Smith, there's no way he'd give Namine back that easily."

 

"So what do you suggest we do?" Roxas asked, his voice growing in frustration as the tears appeared along the rims of his eyes. "You know how clever Smith is! He'll expect a rescue before the actual agreement!"

Kairi's eyebrows furrowed slightly as she looked up at the blond. "Roxas," she said in a little disbelief, her hand still on his shoulder.
