Kingdom Hearts: Chasing Shadows

Nikolai couldn't believe his eyes. He had only heard stories of the Worlds' hearts, but never took them as true. What would happen if she destroyed it or filled it with darkness? Could the same thing happen that happened to his home on that day? Before Nikolai had time to react, a spear came flying past his head and right toward Xenree.

 

Sora was able to hear footsteps in the distance. He froze; the footsteps tapped lightly on the sand, having him believed that Kairi was approaching him. He knew that it would be bad to leave without saying goodbye, but he also didn't want to go through the pain of saying goodbye to her again. He turned, slightly relieved that it wasn't Kairi he saw in the distance, although it was a girl.

"Riku, who is that," Sora asked.

 

Poke acted quickly. He charged straight for the world crystal, in an attempt to grab it. He jumped over it and threw his keyblade at Xenree, before landing down and attempting to grab the heart and run away.

 

Xenree snatched the spear before it could damage the Heart. Using that spear she knocked Poke's Keyblade away from her and stabbed it into the ground, catching Poke with it. "Where do you think you're going? You don't want to miss the show do you?" The World Heart rose up into the sky, burning with a black hue before dulling and turning completely black. The Nobody symbol with black thorned vines twining around it engraved itself into the Heart. Xenree smoothed back her hood and let her black hair fly out from her coat. Pale skin shone in the dull light and her silver eyes glittered malicously with expectations.

"That's...the World Heart of Twilight Town." Renee covered her mouth and closed her brown eyes. "That girl...in black, she did this, I just know it."

Sei hurried with Carrie and Yuffie to Merlin's house. Finding Cid, Leon, Aerith and Merlin fending off Heartless. Sei's Keyblade flashed into his hand as he darted forward and cut through two Shadows that were about to jump onto Aerith's back. She smiled at him and Sei's cheeks turned pink.

Riku turned, his gaze following Sora's to the girl on the beach. "I don't know..." Halfway turning, Riku's blue eyes narrowed suspciously. The last time someone strange had come to the Islands, they'd brought trouble with them.

 

Carrie summoned her keyblade and slashed and dashed to and fro to defeat Heartless.

 

Nikolai stood up and watched as the World Heart turned completely black. "No way..." He said, entranced by the Darkness surrounding the Heart. He looked at Xenree, who had removed her hood, revealing her true face. He summoned his Keyblade and charged at her, knowing that she may have something to counter him.

 

"That can't be a good thing." Shane said seeing what had happend to the World Heart. Seeing Xenree he figured that she had something to do with it, so he ran towards her.

 

Poke quickly de-summoned his keyblade and jumped away, seeing Nikolai charge towards Xenree. He yelled at him, "Times like these I think that drastic measures are to destroy the world heart!"

Xenree's dark Keyblade pulled from the ground of it's own accord and parried the attacks from the charging Keyblade wielders. Xenree turned and her silver eyes pierced Poke, "Touch the World Heart and Twilight Town will be destroyed," she snapped her fingers, "Just like that." Xenree's vampiric teeth poked out from under her top lip. "You want to change it? Join me."

 

Nikolai's arm was flung back from the parry. He knew she probably had something up her sleeve. There was something strange about Xenree, she had nothing resonating from her. There was no Light, no Darkness, no nothing. The fangs made it all the more strange. "Just what exactly are you?" Nikolai asked, his voice the very epitome of seriousness.
(OOC: Nikolai doesn't know what Nobodies are, so he can't tell what Xenree is either.)

 

Xenree snatched her Keyblade as it returned to her. "I am the future ruler. My name is Xenree Parenthapaeus." She refused to admit the obvious. No heart beat in her chest, just as no emotions influenced her behavior. "Oh...you're talking about that... I am a Nobody. A being without a heart." She growled, "Are you going to join me or not? I have no patience for humans."

Sei zipped around his friends, takiing out Heartless. Once they'd all vanished, Sei stood straight and felt Aerith hug him. "Thank you Sei, Carrie." "N-no problem..."

 

Carrie chuckled as Aerith hugged the young boy. "It was mostly him," She said. "He's a good fighter-for a kid anyway"

She let her keyblade fall from her hand as watched it fade into nothing. "What should we do now?" She said sighing.

 

"Without..A Heart?" Nikolai thought. He quickly disregarded it, as there were more pressing matters to attend to. "If at least one of us joins you, will you leave this world alone?" Nikolai asked, hesitance in his voice.

 

The fighting immediately stopped as both Alexander and Nox noticed the entire world turning black. Nox looked up into the sky and saw the heart floating in the sky. Immediately, he understood what was going on. She actually did it, he thought, as he opened up a dark portal. His job was done here, and he was getting bored with Alexander anyway. His portal would lead him back to Castle Oblivion, leaving Alexander alone to deal with the mess.

Alexander swore under his breath as he now stood on his Keyblade, much like a long board and made his was passed the darkness. He followed the path all the way to where all the other Keybladers were. There was no time for introductions, all he could stare at was the giant heart facing them. "What the hell is that thing," He asked himself out loud.

Kirra approached the boys without her Keyblade in hand, showing them that she was not some kind of enemy. As she was a foot between herself and the boys, her chest began to ache. She was able to keep standing, but she didn't understand why. Sora slowly approached her, asking "Who are you?"

"My name's Kirra," She answered, her voice sounding tired.

 

Poke, even though he was in a life threatening situation, simply smirked at the unintroduced newcomer. Deciding to answer his question, he simply said, "That thing is, oh I don't know, I think it's the heart of this world that is being taken over by darkness and if touched it will go boom along with the world and right now that heart is consumed in darkness by some crazy old chick over there." He pointed at Xenree.

 

Xenree's silver eyes lighted on Poke and three vines of pure darkness surged out of the ground around him, each thrashing about wildly,"I'd do you well not to insult me. For I hold this world in th palm of my hand." Returning her gaze to Nikolai, she lifted her chin, "No. I will not return this world to the state it was. But...I will keep the residents from further harm by the darkness. One member...one favor." She held up one slender finger as she spoke, ignoring the newcomer. She was growing tired of the constant interuptions and wanted to go home for the day. She missed the little boy in the Room of Awakening. He was so sweet, so innocent, so...untouched by darkness, that she felt compelled to be beside him.

Sei blushed again and struggled out of Aerith's embrace. Aerith smiled warmly at Carrie and gestured to Merlin. "Oh, yes, that's right! I wanted to show you something quite peculiar. I stumbled across it when I was searching the Realms of Darkness." Merlin headed into his house and started rummaging around in the piles of junk. "Oh, blast...where'd I put the silly thing. I could've sworn I just had it a minute ago..." Leon sighed and set a hand on Carrie's shoulder, "You did good, Carrie." was all he said before turning and stalking off. Cid lit a cigarette and huffed, "I bet the old feller ain't got nothin' to show us. Leon says it ain't nothin' special, but the old coot thinks it's somethin' spectacular."

 

Carrie smiled as Leon put his hand on her shoulder. When she thought about it Leon had helped her through a lot-even more so when Lea had been gone. "Thanks," She said as she talked off.
"Well whatever it is I hope Merlin finds it," said Carrie sighing.

 

"Are you alright?" Riku asked, worried for the girl's health as she obviously was very tired. He stepped forward with Sora and even a few steps further than him so he could hear every word the girl said. "Where did you come from?" His innate curiosity got the better of him and again his heart beat faster at the thought of a new world or a new problem with the worlds. Any excuse to be on the go again and see new people.

A crash sounded from inside the house and Yuffie and Aerith cringed. "That musta hurt." Yuffie joked. Merlin's head poked out the doorway again and grinned at them under his white mustache and beard, "I found it! Come, come, inside." he beckoned them inside and the three of them followed his orders. Sei tugging Carrie along by her sleeve.

 

"I hope Merlin didn't break to many things again..." Carrie said sighing. Carrie chuckled a bit to herself. Oh Sei was just too cute! Such a cute kid! She thought as she was tugged around by the younger boy. She ruffled his hair as they walked into of Merlin's house. "Well Merlin what is it?"

 

Merlin held up a brown box and flipped it's lid open and a song poured out.

Sei's eyes widened and he grabbed onto his head again. He didn't double over like before, instead he stood trembling, staring at the music box. "Akira..." he whispered, his silver eyes wide as tears spilled onto his cheeks. Merlin frowned, "Sei? Are you alright? What did you say?"
