Many gamers believe that KH3D is a side story. What do you people believe?

Well, it's certainly not a numbered title, but it's not inconsequential either. While it doesn't quite have the drama of Kingdom Hearts or Kingdom Hearts II, it moves the plot forward far more than games like 358/2 Days or Re:coded. But I suppose all but Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II could be considered "side stories." Not anything wrong with that, though.

I hate the fact people asking for kingdom hearts 3 when they dont know what it be the content or is the "true sequel".

It's not a side story, even though people consider it one. While it's not a numbered title, it does have a main point to the story, and it actually takes place later on in the series besides being something on the side, as such is a side story

Mist and Libre pretty much said it, the entire non console series could be considered side stories, you could literally never have made them, or seen anything about them and you'd be fine with the story, the only one that serves much help for KH2 would be CoM, as you have more knowledge of Org XIII.

But I would say overall yeah, 3D like all handheld games is a "side" story, but that doesn't make it bad.

But how 3D is a side story, the fact is really a sequel, and it moves the story ahead

This is what gets me mad, some people dont call CoM a side story yet people call 3D a side story? I dont get it

But wouldn't 'side-story' imply that it's happening on the sidelines? If we assume the KH story is a line, then things that happen parallel to the main heroes' stories are side stories. Whereas games like CoM and 3D are middle points or preludes to actual games.

In that sense, they can't really be considered side-stories in its strictest sense.

Re:Coded is a side-story/sequel mixture (it's a side story that moves the timeline forward)
Days is a side-story/interquel mixture (happens in the sidelines and is in-between the events of CoM)
BBS is a Prequel (with some interquel and side-story aspects)
CoM and 3D are sequels, but not in the same scope as numbered entries.

All the games that don't go to the main console (and thus don't receive a number) are "spin-offs" or "side stories".
They do add a lot of info and backstory, and nowdays with so many "side games" there must be more story in the "side games" than in the main games.
While Chain of memories, Birth By Sleep (this is a spin off, as it doesnt show the story of Sora) and 3D are the game with most content (maybe because they follow the actual main players Sora, and Riku, and not nerfd versions of them, or other people).
Even though they are quite dense, Square enix ALWAYS devise some plot twist so that "Sora finishes the game just as he started so that you can get the story only through the main story".
Exemple: In chain of memories Sora loses his memory, thus becoming "Sora from Kh1" all important things of chain are back at KH II, so you don't need to play it to understand.

BBs is great all that story that we didn't know, and characters that we've only dreamed of... and yet it was not directly "Sora's plot" and as Sora is unware of everything that happens, all the important things will be reveled to him again in other games.

3D.. we start with a latter, and the mission to overcome the big bad wolf (Xenoheart), we finish the game, we do not become masters keyblade, and Xenoheart is undeafted, so all the "real plot" will walk still even though the plot got more dense.

IMO, I think that Birth by Sleep, 1, 2, and the future 3, are the main titles. However, I will say that Chain of Memories is a 1.5, and Kingdom Hearts a 2.5. Days and Re:Coded just don't have that much significance, although Days is 10% important.
