Kingdom Hearts 3 details from Square's Press Conference

Kotaku has posted a play-by-play of Square-Enix's press conference at this year's (on-going!) E3. Nothing huge or groundbreaking, but a good read while we're all salivating for the details! Miss the trailer? Watch it in our original news post.

Kingdom Hearts III time. Hashimoto is back to first introduce last night's debut trailer.

Now to Yosuke Matsuda, president and CEO of Square Enix. "As a fan I am also looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 3," he tells us. And says he'll wait for news on it, too. He acknowledges a guest from Disney, Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants. They shake hands. Pleasants is thrilled to have everyone here. Reminds us that Kingdom Hearts is a series of role-playing games that have thrived for more than a decade. He's talking about how important Kingdom Hearts isn't just a big game but also a success.

"We will see a mature Sora who will go off on new adventures with Mickey, Donald and Goofy," he says, adding that the game will take players to Disney worlds seen and yet unseen in the series. No release date, though obviously PS4 is assumed since it was shown at that press conference. The game will also be on Xbox One.

Switching to a Q&A with Hashimoto...

Former Kotaku reporter AJ Glasser wants to know if FFXV and KH3 will not be released in Japan for Xbox One, believing there was a policy against that. Nope, Hashimoto says, worldwide for Xbox One and PS4.

A reporter asks if Square will give Xbox owners a way to catch-up on the Kingdom Hearts mythos, since KH3 is the first Kingdom Hearts on an Xbox. "We don't have any plans yet," Hashimoto said, recommending that people could look to some of the movies and books to get the history.

A question about which development team is working on the new Kingdom Hearts. "We do have many teams at Square Enix, but there is a team in Osaka who have developed a game that is launching in September called Kingdom Hearts 1.5... that team is working on it."

Any female playable characters in XV? That came from a questioner who said that the FFXV cast seemed to be all male and was wondering if Square was concerned about alienating their female fanbase. "The contents of the game re not discussed by me," Hashimoto said, before asking his questioner which female characters he liked. The questioner liked Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Hashimoto said he liked the question and would take it back to the team.

I asked if any particular older Final Fantasy games informed this new one. He said that was a better question for the game's developers. And I asked if, given, Square's past support if there were any plans for a Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts for Wii U. Because the new games are being made on Direct X 11, he said, "we just have to make sure the game can be appropriate for the tool." This one appeared to be lost in translation, sadly, as I wasn't asking about those new games but about the series in general. Sorry, Nintendo fans, I tried.

P.S. Square PR says that the cool gameplay trailer they showed for Final Fantasy XV actually won't be available until 3pm Pacific. Argh! Soon is a relative term.

New clothes? Weird, they look exactly like his KH2 outfit. Which is fine by me. As long as they stay away from his overused KH1 outfit, I'm okay with whatever Sora wears.

Maybe they meant he changed back to his kh2 clothing?? o__O
haha....I am actually quite fond of his outfit in Kh2. Definitely my favorite.

This:
The battle system they want to feel more like the mainline games, but incorporate some elements of the spin-offs.
They're looking into online functionality and considering/investigating multiplayer.

It was all that I wanted to know, since Chain of memories I've being falling in love with the new game plays ! Even thoug the simple hack n' slash from the KH I and II are great, It would suck that in a such huge game like KH III we didn't had all the new powers that we gain in all these previous games! And I would love to play with friends.
BECAUSE OUR HEARTS ARE CONECTED!

That's interesting. I hope it doesn't look jarring and all blends well. I'm a little skeptical, but I don't think they would be doing something like this if they didn't think it would work well.

Regarding the outfit, you really can't say with any certainty at all if it will be the same. We didn't see Sora's new clothes for 3D until well after it was announced. Pretty much everything at this point is either speculatory and possibly subject to change.

Interesting, a bit of a combination between the KH1/2 battle system and the BBS/3D battle system. Not sure how that's gonna turn out, but since these are the same guys who did BBS and 3D, I have faith that they'll wow me for a third time.

Nifty! So that means we're going to be seeing Sora and friends in different artistic styles of lighting!

Guess this is best place to post this, but some more info regarding KH3 directly from Nomura over Live stream:

There will be a mix of worlds that are essential to the plot, and more experimental worlds.

The battle system they want to feel more like the mainline games, but incorporate some elements of the spin-offs.

There will be at least one more Final Fantasy character in the game again.

Sora is the main character, but you might be able to play King Mickey.

They're looking into online functionality and considering/investigating multiplayer.

This is the final battle against Organization XIII, but may not be the end of Nobodies.

They're not saying if you will see more Kingdom Hearts (the actual things) in this game because that would be a spoiler.

They will be changing the shaders in the game on a per world basis so each world looks more like the Disney movie it is related to.

This make me so happy, that I feel like I'm in heaven. Anyways, I'll wait and see how this works out. Since like what Roxam said about KHIII having some battle elements for the handheld games (BbS/DDD), KHIII will be really worth the wait.

This is the line that interest me the most. A few of my post in the discussion threads have mentioned how I think he will be more of a mature person after what happened in 3D, but now that I know I am right, I wonder to what extent... He looks kind of like I had said; Mature, yet still goofy old sora. I just hope they do well with the irection they're taking with the character, and now wonder if they made him seem more immature in 3D specifically so that it would be comparable. He probably just hit a cocky phase during the course of that game.... Anyway. I am crying tears of joy that they have now released three 8 YEARS after 2, and have faith that they will pull this off with a HUGE bang.
